The new shows, Discovery and Picard, are different. In Discovery, there are too many protagonists and too much of a focus on Burnham. Many of the bridge crew have not said much so far (and we are in series 3 already) and are there mainly to exchange glances while, at the same time, more and more crew members get added with not much more to do after 1-2 episodes centered around them. As mentioned before, some are annoyingly overacting (Stamets, Tilly).
Picard is a lost opportunity. I had hoped Patrick Stewart had come on board for a more intelligent and less action-based series. In the end, the storylines of STD s2 and STP s1 were identical - artificial intelligence trying to exterminate all organic life. How disappointing, considering the enormous range of interesting themes Star Trek had covered before.
To be fair, the cast dynamic of DISCO is a lot more like what it was in TOS. In the classic show, the only true main characters were Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, while DISCO's is pretty much just Burnham, Suru, Stamets and Tilly. They were always at the center of the stories, whereas the supporting players like Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, Chekov, and Chapel were really just there to play their parts much like Detmer, Owosekun, Bryce. Sometimes they would be given their moments, but they would never have stories that made them the protagonists. Much different from the Berman era, which had main casts of 7 to 10 people as back in the 80s/90s ensemble shows were much more common.
It's just that her constant crying and 'empathy' face wind me up a bit.
original series, the remastered version. So far I'm half way through season
2 and I'm loving it. I doubt if they expected them to be scrutinised so much
when they were making them. As I'm watching them on a 55 inch 4k Television.
So it's very obvious now when the stuntman takes over during the fights, but it's
all part of the charm of the show.
Yeah the fight between Kirk and Khan is amusing, I have the Bluray Sets of the OG series, I previously had the DVD tin sets I do like the presentation and menus.
I fondly remember watching TOS as a kid back in the late ‘80s when they would play episodes of it just before the premiere of a new TNG episode. Twenty years after they were made, I still loved the special effects.
about the Deep Space 9 episode, Trials and Tribble-ations.
the special vhs release of the episodes not shown on Tv. As this episode
had the first interracial kiss on television, the other episode was " Whom
Gods Destroy " about an escape from an insane asylum.
My favorite TOS episode, no doubt about it. And as a huge DS9 fan (my favorite Trek series, my second favorite TV series ever), ‘Trials and Tribble-ations’ is just gravy.
There's a fanedit out there that combines the two episodes. It was actually how I first saw the DS9 episode.
I pretty much agree with this.
