French actress Joy Esther reveals that she participated in the Bond girl audition (but lost to Léa Seydoux) - "you cannot compete against Léa"

Google Translate or in original French

Besides, I thought they were originally screen testing Brits and Scandinavians?

I think Dan has a thing for French girls. 3 out of 4 movies now with the Bond girl played by a French actress. He's got a very nice English girl at home so who can blame him for looking across the Channel to spice things up a bit in the casting department.

You could say 4 out of 4 as Olga is of the French acting and modeling scene....having launched and developed her career in Paris...age 16
  • Does anyone know if Seydoux's gonna keep her French accent?

Does anyone know if Seydoux's gonna keep her French accent?

Can she lose it when she speaks in English?

Well I've things about her having the same dialect coach as Eva Green so I just thought maybe they're gonna teach her how to lose the accent more. I mean to me Seydoux as quite a thick French accent when she speaks English and it's beautiful but I don't know if the filmmakers want her character to have that kind of accent?

With a name like Madeleine Swann, it seems likely to me that she is French. I always thought the Vesper Lynd played by Eva Green may have had French blood, as she still had a French accent.

They're quite nice actually, so I don't blame him. French girls I mean.

I hope she can speak with a posh English accent as she will have the same dialogue coach as Eva Green did in Casino Royal (and still with Penny Dreadful).

I am pretty certain she is doing her own English dub in the French Belle Et Le Bete - Beauty and the Beast - although she sounds Irish near the end

The Beauty and the Beast would be an interesting concept between a Bond girl and a villain. A girl who basically gives herself to the villain in exchange for another.

Come to think of it... I'd rather have her keep her French accent.

    :)

I think Léa needs more consistency with her English accent and what better way to do this than working with a lot of Brits (and have a dialogue coach!) as you tend to assimilate other people's accents. Her French accent is not that strong. You should hear the difference between her and Adèle Exarchopoulos in their joint interviews.

Here's another more in depth Joy Esther article on Puretrend. Joy Esther said she had several auditions for the Bond girl role, whereas Léa said she had one (from a different interview).

I am so glad they went for Léa Seydoux. Joy Esther is good looking, but there is something common in her beauty that does not fit a Bond girl IMO. Léa has charisma to go with her beauty, which is not a usual kind of beauty.

Oh and thanks for the article, and I didn't need Google Translate: I am a native French speaker.:-)

Here a picture and a teaser of the interview of Monica Bellucci for a French radio (Europe 1): the full interview should probably be released and on air on Saturday 31st.

    Original video in French: europe1.fr/cinema/monica-bellucci-j-ai-decide-de-venir-vivre-en-france-2352503

The teaser only concerns her choice to come living in France, especially for the education of her daughters, and she explains: "I'm definitely an Italian Lady like my accent, my colors,...".

    Credits to Europe1, France (January 23rd, 2015)

I though Eva Green's accent in CR was very pleasing. She did sound like a French woman putting on an English accent, but it worked very well. I also think Eva Green has some Enlgish heritage, or perhaps has spent time in the UK - might be imagining that bit.

Just hoping that Lea Seydoux doesn't do a really bad fake Enlgish accent that slips into Irish or American. Much better that they just let her be a French character and have her speak English with an accent.

I hope (but doubt) that Bellucci will have a small role like Cucinotta in TWINE. Both are terrible actresses.

I always thought Vesper Lynd had some French blood, even in the novel, even though there is no evidence whatsoever to support this impression. I always imagined Eva Green's Vesper had a French mother and/or spent a lot of time in a boarding school in France or something of the sort.

Finishing school in Switzerland most likely.

I do hope they let Lea just be Lea. Let her speak with any exotic accent she likes, which is what I think will happen.

I hope we get confirmation one of these days that Penelope Cruz officially has the small part of Estrella in the PTS of "SPECTRE". It'll be another big actress....this time fully accepting a tiny role. Insane :-P.

Can't open it. Is that a rumour about Penelope?

I like Penelope but she's much better in Spanish language films than English ones.

I posted the same photo on the timeline thread. I think it's Lea. From later footage of her in the back of the car it confirms it. Hair in ponytail and wearing a dark trouser suit. IMO.
