If the stupid suits and bean counters are concerned about that above all else, then just call it Batman vs. Superman. No other title will put more butts in seats, I assure you. I just fail to see how any of the domain titles are any less ambiguous/confusing as World's Finest. Just once, let's make a decision that benefits/caters to the actual fans of the characters who will have repeat theater viewings of the film in theaters and once it releases on disc and digital formats.
That's almost the entire audience then. Why would you go and see a film about Superman and Batman if you weren't an actual fan of them?
People would surprise you.
Here's the kinds of people that will see this film, in my estimation:
Group 1: First and foremost, this group is made up of comics readers who love the characters to death and who have waited their entire lives for this kind of film.
Group 2: This group includes fans of the superhero genre in general, who may not know these characters that well, but will go anyway because they love these kinds of films.
Group 3: Then you have the people who saw MoS, and will see the sequel just to keep following the story. They may or may not be comics fans.
Group 4: Next you have the casual filmgoers who don't know Superman from Green Arrow, and will go to see the move either because it looks cool in the trailers, or because of the word of mouth it carries.
Group 5: And finally, you have the people who will be dragged to see it by either their friends or family, and who are unfamiliar with the characters.
There are many variations on each group, but these are the kinds of people that I expect to go out and see this movie. The audience types that will make this film extremely successful above all the rest are groups 1, 2 and 3. Members of Group 4 and 5 will obviously bring substantial amounts of money to the film on their own, but those first three groups are the ones who will rewatch the film more than anyone else and be the biggest purchasers of the disc and digital copies of the film once they are released.
Group 6: Fans of Ben Affleck, who have seen everything from Argo to Phantoms to Daredevil and loved all of them.
Group 7: Fans of Chris Nolan, who have seen his films religiously, both superhero and otherwise.
Group 8: Fans of Zack Snyder, who have followed his career since the Dawn of the Dead remake.
Group 10: Women who came for Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck's physiques, and all the gents who came for the likes of Amy Adams and whatever other hot dame they are casting as Bruce's love interest, or even Wonder Woman herself.
*I fit in this, I rented that awful 'the Tourist' movie solely to see those 5 minutes of Dalton screentime :P
Affleck though will be good I have faith... still is weird we are in Ben Affleck batman tenure
I think that comes with the role, as no matter who you pick, someone out there will complain. Just like DC as Bond, it'll happen with the next actor chosen as the new James Bond - some will be happy, others will complain. Hard to please everyone.
They're all pretty rank. 'Knight Falls' isn't bad. The rest are lame.
I have to agree there.
Man of Steel: Batman v Superman
I was wondering though, the fact that it's a Superman film should draw in a lot of people anyway. Seeing all the diehard Batman fans will know that Batman will feature in this film anyway, then is it necessary to make it really clear that Batman will be in it too? Will general cinema goers care that much?
I remember listening to that recording of him freaking out back in 08 or 09. Some guy had distracted him and he really got his knickers in a knot. LOL.
Anyway, you called the film "Man of Steel: Batman Vs. Superman". Why does "Man of Steel" have to be in the title? I don't see any reason for "Man of Steel" to be in the title in anyway, even for the idiots who need a simplified title to understand that the film is a sequel. Everybody knew that "The Dark Knight" was a sequel to "Batman Begins", despite the fact that "Batman" wasn't ahead of the title.
Man of Steel: Shadow of the Bat
That's pretty blunt, let's go with that. ;-)
"WHERE'S THE TRIGGER! WHERE IS IT!"
...but on the whole, I wasn't bugged by it at all. I am very biased to those films, however, so who knows. Still, we can't all be Kevin Conroy, can we?
Or that guy from Beware the Batman.
I haven't seen a single episode of that, but I hope to.
Batman v Superman alone is more catchy. I put MOS in there partly because Warner Brothers seem adamant on having it there but I also kind of like having it at the beginning like with the Star Trek films. I like the consistency and retaining a solid foundation.
Double post? These new Mi6 forums do strange things to me sometimes.
You'll have a problem there then as Sony aren't producing this film.
Bond on the brain! ;-)
(It's WB by the way)
