of the remaining 5 choices. Top three would be.
1. TWINE (the song is doing most of the heavy lifting here, but the titles are compelling enough too)
2. SF ( moreso the title design here, than the very derivative and dirgy song)
3. GE ( equal combo of good song and sold titles)
2 Points - GoldenEye. Revolutionized a new era. Always will prefer the Binder titles, but this new style with computer imagery is just great
1 Point - Skyfall. Decent, but not great. Love the dragons.
2. SF
3. GE
2. GE
3. TND
Without the music, the QOS-titles are a bit like SF. They are also like a "tour" into something. And I do like the sandy colors a lot. Just have a look at one of the screenshots I made. The one with Bond's hand holding a gun. Truly nice. Design-wise, I like them more than those from DAD and TND.
I could understand you seeing the SF titles as a tour as they actually have a theme running through them, but I can't see it in QOS. You're probably right about TND, but at least DAD had stuff going for it in that it furthered the plot as opposed to just being a collection of related imagery as per the norm.
I think the QoS sequence completely evokes the stark, stripped down nature of the film/narrative. It's not as refined as a Binder or Kleinmann at their best, but I think it's a really good effort and absolutely works with the title song.
Well, the sand for instance, is directly related to the drought and absence of water. Which was a bit the underlying theme of QOS. It also relates to the empty, dry locations of this film.
Then there are these vector lines from the map of Earth that keep appearing. They directly relate to Greene Planet....and the world domination of Quantum.
The titles are certainly better than the title song deserved.
2 points: Skyfall
1 point: The World is Not Enough
Couldn't decide between TWINE and CR, but there's a sadness to the TWINE song which I think fits the plot of the movie (I always felt bad for Elektra and what she's been through). However, YKMN with the orchestra in the background is magical.
Honorable mentions go to TND and DAD. I used to hate DAD when I was younger; the torture scenes scared me as a kid and they left me with an unnecessary negative feeling. However, I have come to appreciate it over the years because I love the Korean woman who tortures Bond with this stern look in her eyes, and I thought the part where the digital ice woman helps Bond keep his head up is kinda sexy.
QoS was crap.
2 points: Skyfall - Mysterious. Fits the film well. Adele is a boss too.
1 point: Casino Royale - While it had no silhouettes of naked women spinning around, the animations were simply brilliant. Especially when you see someone pierced with a diamond symbol accompanied by the line 'I've seen diamonds cut through harder men'.
2 points: Skyfall
1 point: The World Is Not Enough
Casino Royale and Skyfall are pretty neck and neck for me. Both have great designs and direction by Kleinman. And they both match their respective stories really well without revealing too much. TWINE was pretty interesting. Definitely matches the story, but I think it was a little too heavy handed with the design. The song is great though.
2 points - Casino Royale (fantastic concept for the reboot of the series. Particularly loved the end with DC walking into the camera - great shot and fantastic way to introduce the new 007!)
1 point - Die Another Day (for starters i dont hate the music as many here, and i love the mixture of real footage with very nice animation)
2. Casino Royale
3. GoldenEye
My favorite between 1995 and 2012 is 2006's "Casino Royale".
2. Skyfall 2 points (A very haunting and effective title sequence and while Adele's song doesn't really sound that great on it's own it's perfect coupled with DK's visuals and sets up my favourite Craig entry perfectly)
3. Goldeneye 1 point ( I don't like GE and I certainly prefer QOS as a whole but Kleinman's first effort was a great job so must acknowledge it. Using MK13 was an example of letting the director have too much control, a good job Mendes returned to for SF, look forward to what DK can do with Spectre)
Daniel Kleinman definitely grabbed the baton with a aplomb from the late Maurice Binder.
He will be back. After his fantastic, longest ever, main titles for Skyfall.
