Yes and many of both US and UK critics that have given a thumbs up seem to offer the same or similar criticisms ...none of which seem that detrimental to me.
I guess what I'm saying and others have said ..just go in expecting a good or great traditional Bond film and you'll get just that.
"To put the British territory (as defined by Sony) number in context, the box office sales relative to their total population would equate to the equivalent of a $326 million full week gross in the US/Canada. That number puts it ahead ahead of domestic record holder "Jurassic World" ($296 million) and also ahead of adjusted numbers for any other film. More impressive is that it comes in a mid-fall time slot without local school vacations providing any boost."
Actually, that $326 mil figure should be higher, as the writer of the article forgot to add the Canadian population to his figures. For reference the US population is 5 x that of the UK. 320 million people vs 64 million. Plus there are just under 36 million Canadians!
After one week on UK release, Spectre has already beaten the TOTALS of Furious 7, Mission Impossible, and EVERY film from 2014.
Also average critic rating is 6.7 on RT.
@mepal1
QOS is the least profitable Bond movie ever. Even then return on invest was 157% for QOS which would make every accountant happy enough.
By the way Dr. No's return on invest was a mere 5.857% (five thousand eight hundred and seventy five percent!!!!)
And Licence To Kill who is falsely considered a flop had a return on invest of 272%.
Cubby and Harry and later Cubby and now Barbara and MGW always made profit between normal and insane levels!
QOS does show though, that cost expenditure is important and EON under BB + MGW has a lot to learn in that regard.
Goldeneye, Casino Royale were even more profitable than Skyfall which has more or less the same return on invest as A View To A Kill, imagine that.
It's click bait pure and simple. Even for those of us who do like the film we'd probably be more curious to read about the bad stuff than endless positive reviews which repeat what we might see here.
I hope these tin pot sites and reviewers are content with their extra website hits.
Maybe, but don't forget that those same "low circulation publications" helped a great deal to put SF and CR to the top review ratings wise.
You can't have it both ways. All reviews have to be accepted.
There will always be a small number of ridiculously argument-free bashings and also pure advertisement reviews that read as they were written by EON itself.
I don't want it both ways though. A couple of fat greasy haired comic book nerds on a self funded geek website should absolutely not carry the same weight as properly employed and respected film reviewers.
Well said!
I agree on the description you have given as an example. A certain degree of professionalism should be a given.
Metacritic clearly is more careful with choosing but there the rating also stands at 65% and hasn't changed in over a week.
Good point...........usually you get a major update of a films BO after each weekend, with the studios posting estimates on Sunday evening.......this is for both the North American market, and the International market.
You do occasionally see some updated International BO figures during the middle of the week, but it doesn't appear to be the norm.
I have been searching the web, for any updated news on SP's BO in the UK and Europe, but havn't seen anything reported yet......i want to see how SP is doing in its 2nd week in the UK!
As do I. This is where it gets interesting. First week was as expected. Record busting. US will be too, I'm as sure of it as an SP RT rating.
;)

I don't give a rat's ass anymore about the RottenTomatoes for "SPECTRE". Worse than....
....
--> "Furious 7"?
--> "Kingsman"?
--> "Jurassic World"?
--> "Spy"?
--> "Avengers: Age Of Ultron"?
--> "UNCLE"?
--> "Quantum Of Solace"?
Don't let me laugh. You know, "SPECTRE" will never get the "Certified Fresh" rating anymore at this stage. It'll stay under 70%. Completely undeserved. And it smells IMO, as quite a few top critics reviews are blatantly and subjectively ripping of the Bond franchise.
You know? I expected a nice rating of between 75% and 85%. That would make more sense. Especially when you look to other sequels like "Furious 7" and "Avengers 2". But 66%? Obviously, the negative publicity that started with the December 2014 SonyLeaks did cause some damage, as it sticked to the minds of so many movie journalists who were so eager to dissect those illegaly obtained SonyLeaks.
I wonder what would have happened if we had DisneyLeaks right now. Pfff, 66%? Fuck off. Anyway, I have fun nonetheless :-).

I am more conservative and I say 82 million. IMHO Peanuts may get over 50 million.
Yes, lerts celebrate the good and not worry. Nothing we can do anyway and thinking of the good is always more pleasant. Maybe The US market will suprise us.

Those are mind boggling stats. Incredible.
Says who? I doubt, they made 650 mill already. I wished ;)

The billion is a given. I'd go so far now to say that if the US audience likes it as much as it liked SF 1.5 billion can be possible.
What did you experience at the cinema today? Was it a full house. Where did you see it?
Full house is an understatement.
The cinema complex shows Spectre today on ALL screens and not one other single movie!!!
Every screening is completely sold out even on the smaller screens. I was in the 5 o'clock screening on Screen 1, it was sold out.
There is no way to get tickets for Spectre for the weekend anywhere which is incredible given the fact that it opened today on a record numbers of screens.
After the movie people were clapping, cheering and totally exhilarated. It was like the Swiss national holiday.
I have to add though that the Swiss always loved James Bond.
How many screens? Glad to hear that audiences are enjoying it. I am wondering for UK members here, how are the screenings after more than one week. Are they still busy? Is the film having good word of mouth?
