At this point I really want Spectre to make more than Skyfall.
I've seen it 6 times now and I still want to see it more. It works so well on the big screen and I want to capture it that way as many times as I can.
    Not that my 65" 4K TV wasn't nice :))

    Ehh, Jason?

What does your wife say? And your daughter? :-S /:)

Well I went to see Minions 4 times with my daughter and Hotel Transylvania 3 times, so I guess she's ok with it :)
And my wife is very understanding, she watches the whole Twilight saga bimonthly and I let her :))

I'm lucky. I only had to sit through Minions once with my kids.

    It's hindsight talking.
True, and of course it is, but it's my opinion and I stand by it. My loyalty to this franchise includes being honest about where I think they could have done a better job, in the film making and in the marketing and promotion. There are a lot of things that could have been done better with this project. It has had its share of slip ups, whether forseeable or bad luck one doesn't know for sure. I hope they are able to execute much more effectively with the next one, as they have done in the past.

In summary as of this evening what do we estimate the latest global BO numbers to be and what as a result do we think SP is on track for? Thanks

$543 million worldwide as of Sunday night. As for end result, who knows? Probably at least 800. Maybe 900 if it continues to hold well.

Thanks. $900 million would get DC back i guess.

Latest BO from China..........SP took in $3,770,400 on Weds.

Total now in China after 6 days $61,919,800...........so it has passed SF now, and its all a bonus from now on.

Interesting to note, that the ticket price in China, is about a third of what it is here in the UK.............an awful lot of Chinese are going to see the film.

News from China. The current box office totals from China came in. After 6 days in release "SPECTRE"s Chinese box office totals now stand at $62 Million. Thus it has surpassed "Skyfall", which scored $59 Million during its entire run in the Middle Kingdom.
    http://www.boxofficechina.com/beta/

On Wednesday "SPECTRE" banked another $3.8 Million. The film is expected to have very good legs in China, even after "Hunger Games 4" premieres in China this Friday. "The Hunger Games" franchise isn't that much loved in China, which is partially caused by the lacklustre box office grosses of the previous Hunger Games entries in China.

@Gustav_Graves, someone beat you to it! Happy to see SP dominating in China, looking forward to seeing what it'll do this weekend, alongside SP's return for the weekend in the U.S. alongside the release of 'Mockingjay Part 2'.

Never seen a Hunger games film, are they a childrens film franchise, or will they be competition for the adult viewers who may want to see both that film and SP?

Don't bother yourself with the details. Just know you've done a great service to yourself by not having seen them.

I liked the first one (it surprised me quite a lot actually....because I thought it would be some teeny bopper junk and it wasn't....it was actually rather dark). I haven't seen the rest, but I want to.

It's actually similar to the 'Running Man' with Arnie, but for a younger crowd.

Jennifer Lawrence was good in the first one.

I loved the first "Hunger Film" actually. Very good dystopian sci-fi, with credible acting from Jennifer Larence. I have never read the books. But after the first film I thought. Good, pretty damn good, no sequels please. This movie is a very good standalone sci-fi flick.

Then this Hunger Games craze came. A rather OK, though not great 2nd film. Then this dreadwful 1st part of "Mockingjay", which is a blasphemy as a standalone film. Unwatchable really. Also Jennifer Lawrence's overacting and crying really irritated me. It was never really part of some plot.

Every logical human being could have known that your best buddy is being brainwashed in the capital. No need to cry over it. It's stupid and unrealistic. And there it shows that it's not for grown-ups, but still is a young adult film.

Oohh the Running Man, I was a fan of that movie when I was a child, even if it was not a movie for children. Hunger Games also reminds me of "Batle Royal", a wonderful Japanese movie.

Since 1995, this will be the first time a Bond film released in the North American market, would of had a BO gross, lower than its predecessor........forgetting about inflation, and admissions etc.

I'm actually glad we have got this out of the way now because it had to happen some time. I would have been much more disappointed if it had happened to a very well reviewed & scripted Bond entry.

Why do you connect box office results with the quality of the film. I mean, "Rogue Nation" didn't do as well in the US as "Ghost Protocol". Still, I think "Rogue Nation" is a better film than "Ghost Protocol", despite the criticism I have for both films.

It's also not that much a result of bad reviews. "Skyfall" is partially to blaim as well, like you said so many times :-). The film was a 'US box office phenomenon'.

Box office results are never, ever a reflection on a film. Like I've said time and time again, if that was the case, then 'Avatar' can be universally listed as the greatest film of all time.

I'm not connecting it, and never have. It's just that this sort of connection does get made by the public (especially in the US, which is very much a competitive kind of place). Now that it is done with, we can move on.

I always bring up Michael Jackson. He spent a lifetime trying to outdo Thriller commercially. It was just impossible. I think he surpassed it critically, but anything he did was always compared to the success of Thriller, unfairly imho.

Unfortunately, Bond may have to live with the shadow of SF for years to come. I hope not.
Agreed about the shadow of SF. SP is a better film than the reviews would have people believe. It's flawed, sure, but 30% lower than SF? C'mon. Expectations were lower for SF after QoS and higher for SP and that explains a lot of the boost the former got and the criticisms the latter has thrown its way. SF should be around 85% on RT and SP at 75% IMO. They are both great films.

North American Update:- Tuesdays BO take for SP

    $3,247,692 ......... running total $134,659,531

Well, realistically you have to adjust for inflation to get a more accurate measure of success. It's no coincidence that its the most recent 8 Bond films that occupy the top 8 spots in unadjusted dollars. Convert to 'tickets sold' and Spectre still has a long way to go :

    http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=jamesbond.htm&adjust_yr=2015&p=.htm

    1 Thunderball UA $623,832,000
    2 Goldfinger UA $552,942,000
    3 Skyfall Sony $315,602,300
4 You Only Live Twice UA $299,439,300
    5 Moonraker MGM $233,613,400
6 Die Another Day MGM $230,050,800
7 Tomorrow Never Dies MGM $224,439,200
8 From Russia, with Love UA $222,371,000
9 Diamonds Are Forever UA $221,487,900

13 Quantum of Solace Sony $195,570,000
    ...
    21 Spectre Sony $128,981,285

But hey, so far its beaten AVTAK, TLD, TMWTGG and LTK at the US box office :)

  • Yes I said the same thing 2 pages ago :) We can't have Spectre finishing under DAD! $100 million to go...
  • This adjusted gross is crazy, why SP has 128,9 million adjusted with a real box office over 134 million???
