Goldfinger Charity Event

edited August 2013 in News Posts: 4
Hi there Bond fans! I work for a charity in the UK and we're looking to put on a golf event for our supporters. It's the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger next year so I'm thinking about holding the event at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire to tie in with this. The event would include a welcome gift, 18 holes, 2 course dinner and a couple of guest speakers from the world of Bond to discuss the film - I'm thinking Dave Worrall, Honor Blackman and Shirley Eaton.

I wondered if any of you would be interested in attending an event like this? What would you like to see as part of the event itinerary and how much would you be prepared to pay for this, bearing in mind it's for charity?!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Shirley Eaton's going?

Any chance of Niki Van Der Zyl being there?

I don't think anything is confirmed yet, is it?
    What charity, pray tell?

    :D
  • No nothing is confirmed as yet, I just wanted to get some feedback from Bond Fans about what they'd like to see at the event if we were to arrange it.

The charity is St Nicholas Hospice Care, we're based in Suffolk. Several of our high profile supporters are golf fans so we thought a golf event would work quite well. We would put tickets out to our supporters first then open them up to the Bond community......

I hadn't considered Niki Van Der Zyl as I didn't think she played any part in Goldfinger?

  • Oh I am mistaken, I just looked it up and she was the voice of Shirley Eaton, I never knew that!

Most people overlook it and she was in more than just GF. She featured on DN through YOLT and also TMWTGG if I'm not mistaken. Shame she is forgotten.

Great idea, I would almost certainly attend. Me and a friend were just talking 2 weeks ago about how much we would love to go for a round of golf there! I couldn't really put a figure on how much I'd be willing to pay, but certainly if it was roughly like you described I would pay whatever the going rate was for such a charity event. In a rush now but if I have any other thoughts will add them later.

Niki is like Voldermort; she who must not be named. Anyway, I don't know how to play to golf but I'd love to attend something like this regardless and I'm not looking to pay anything more than £100.

I'm not into golf, but for a charity esp an hospital and at a Bond event I'd love to attend. Now how possible it is that's another matter. But I live in Bucks so I'll check where it is.

I just checked where it is. I might have been there before actually.

£100. Might just get you into the carpark !

    Well that's a start.
  • I was thinking more along the lines of £175.00 per ticket and this would include 18 holes, 2 course meal and the celebrity speakers....

    I'd pay for that.

I'd say £175 for that as a charity event is good value, I would definitely be in and would easily persuade a friend too if there was availability. Keep us posted!

That seems to be reasonable, how about a package with some overnight accommodation for those of us that have to travel?.
  • The Niki Van Der Zyl is a bit tongue in cheek, as some of the actual stars are not fond of her for speaking up about her role in the films.

Not sure if many of those who'd like to attend play golf, wouldn't that narrow it down a bit? I know you're aiming this at your members though, but are you pitching it to us as well? It does depend if the members are Bond fans to that extent maybe. Still, £175 doesn't seem too much, maybe special gift could be a copy of the book. Or gold chocolate bar!

Yeah sorry Claire I should perhaps have stated - whatever you do don't attempt to invite Niki Van Der Zyl otherwise your event might wind up in a whole heap of trouble.

I can't tell you why because its all a big secret which I am not party too but suffice it to say there seem to be quite a few people out there from the world of Bond who really don't like her and might not take kindly to you inviting her so save yourself the hassle.

If that seems a bit harsh on Niki it is but I think you seem an innocent party who probably has no knowledge of this affair so I wouldn't want your event to be ruined by you misconstruing some flippant remark I made.

Careful, we know what happens to threads round here when someone mentions Niki Van Der Zyl...

Niki a hand grenade to the mods.

Mention of her name has been known to close a thread faster than if you post paedo porn on here.

Oh my word. I've just spent the last hour reading the above thread and other links connected to it.

Wow! I'm not one who usually believes in any sort of conspiracy theory crap but there does seem to be strange forces at work there. It's completely compelling stuff though. Who knows, maybe a film about Ms Van Der Zyl and EON will be made in the future ;-)

AND this nice charity worker is trying to get info to get her golf Bond celebrity meet and greet event figured out. So, maybe let's move on from Nikki, eh? :D

I'd like to suggest that the charity event have a choice of packages:
    1) with golf and hotel and other special event (meet and greet Bond celebs, etc.)
    2) no golf but including hotel and meet & greet, etc.
    3) no golf or hotel but just the meet & greet, etc.

Priced a bit up but still affordable (and no, I can't help guess at what that should be), but then you would have more people participating. Just my two cents worth.

If the court injunctions would allow it, then yes. [-X
