I view all of the Star Wars movies like that.
I still struggle with The Last Jedi though all the others I watch frequently.

Good addition to the cast.
Watching Episode 5 The Gunslinger had some free time I may binge the rest of the first season today, this show is great its the kind of Star Wars I want to watch.
It is screened at the local cinema this weekend. My son wants to go see it on the big screen. Maybe with some friends. If not, I may go with him. It s been 40 years after all. I remember thinking it was one of the greatest movies ever. Had seen a clip on tv beforehand, and didn t have high hopes it would be as good as the first. Changed my mind about that after I saw it, but was frustrated by having to wait three years for the next one.

My theory is that they are all connected, not just separate Star Wars projects, given the timing of each set of news.

... In fact, a new rumor indicates that there could be some massive changes made to Star Wars’ official cinematic canon that would effectively wipe the entire Sequel Trilogy from existence...

I would be shocked if this happened
"Okay, guys, let's make those movies that collectively made us close to $4 billion non canon to please the vocal minority of fans who hated them."
Yeah, this is crap.
However, no matter how unlikely this were to happen, I would love to hear the phone call Harrison Ford receives to inform him TFA is no longer canon so his services as Han Solo are required again.
Probably a very flat "No". Same for Mark Hamill.
He and Midnight's Edge have claimed numerous times that Kathleen Kennedy and Alex Kurtzman were "fired" behind the scenes for years now. Of course it's all BS, but most of their followers eat up that kind of stuff because it's all wish fulfillment news to them. Also, Midnight's Edge is the one who started the rumors of NTTD being postponed because of negative test screenings and requiring heavy reshoots.
This is what toxic fandom is.
Star Wars will be at Comic Con on July 24! Unfortunately, so will be Joss Whedon😢
Doomcock is crap, yeah, and these films won't be decanonized, but the "vocal minority of fans" claim is the equal and opposite of "Kathleen Kennedy has been secretly fired". These movies are about as unpopular with hardcore fans as any movie called "Star Wars" could really be.
Well I'll dispute the larger point in a moment, but at least we should be able to agree that back in the prequel days, nobody was making silly claims about a "vocal minority", or that because they films made loads of cash, everything went really well.
I used to post on SW forums back then, and wouldn't say the situation was like now. A lot of people didn't like the movies, but it wasn't like the more casual fans or mainstream press that hated them. Rather opposite to the Disney trilogy, which is largely loved by casual fans and mainstream press. It's a very different dynamic.
The PT produced a ton of novels and other content like the Clone Wars series which are popular to this day, while the universe of the Disney films doesnt seem to have much more in the pipeline. When I lurk at the old forums, the mood seems worse to me.
Of course, part of it is generational, and prequel fans are older now and have more influence in the community. But I don't know if this current trilogy has produced enough new young fans to ever move the needle on the reception of these movies.
Only time can tell. The sequels are only 5 years old at this point, and the prequels have been around for 21 years, four times the amount of the sequels supported by that many years worth of books, games, spin-offs, etc.
Especially if Rian Johnson directs and Kathleen Kennedy produces again. He is planning to direct the first one of the trilogy he’s planning. Watch the fandom become truly toxic, if and when it becomes official.
Some clickbait, but I won’t be surprised if it was true.

Mark Hamill deserves it.

Of course ten years down the line when Disney wants more money I have no doubt they will at least think about bringing Rey back etc, we will probably have a flash back sequence where CGI Rey is training CGI Fin in one of the films.
