The cast and little amount of footage I've seen for 'Rogue One' is all I need to know I'll see it day one.

That looked awesome. I can't wait to see it. The music kinda sounded like Eric Serra.

Let's hope the new SW will not be another Disney Junior Channel movie. Kylo Ren is a joke, Rey would have ended him in their first fight if the planet (natural disaster) had not divided them.

I don't get the Kylo Ren hate, seriously considering the garbage we got in the prequels.

The prequels are utter agony to watch TFA was a familiar blast to get things started again, no it wasn't original or mind blowing but it a huge smile on my face and I look forward to catching it for a second time on Blu ray soon.

Episode 8 will be where the series will need to strike out on it's own, if it goes down the same route as TFA then we have a problem but I don't think Johnson would have signed on to do that. Considering he's writing it, JJ was probably envious when he saw the script because Rian was getting to really take SW somewhere new.

Rogue One looks better than TFA but I always was more intrigued by that from the moment it was announced than Episode 7.

Hearing that mashup of Vader's theme and light of the force...I need this movie NOW.

I watched TFA last night on Blu-ray and was surprised by how much Disney DNA it had. I found it odd because I hadn't really noticed it before when I saw it in theaters. So far, I really like the vibe I am seeing here with Rogue One, but I've seen a pattern lately where teaser trailers don't necessarily portray a film's tone very accurately.

(And for the record, I think Kylo was one of the best parts of TFA)

I´m ten years younger, but I feel I know exactly what you mean.

This teaser will push sales for the TFA blu ray sky-high.

Kylo Ren is a great villain.

I don't get how that wuss Kylo is a great villain. He looks like someone casted for a boy band and not the successor of Darth Vader. He is ridiculously bad like Lex in BvS.

"Wuss"? He places Vader's helmet in a pile of his enemies ashes. Doesn't sound wussy to me at all, sounds like the textbook definition of a psychotic badass.

I agree. He was a little (or a lot) unhinged. I love that. Conflicted. Adam Driver was much better at it than Hayden doing the same thing in Attack of the Clones. The fact that he has an unconventional look to him also helps.

He is psychotic yes. But watch how he fights Rey in the forest. He can't fight, he is just pathetic, weak and useless.
General Hux was more impressive even.

He just killed daddy, and had suffered a (serious) wound. The chap's all messed up inside and physically at this point. No focus. Force overload and all that jazz. That's my rationale for why Rey was able to hold her own against him (also, Rey is the chosen one I'm assuming so her powers are quite strong).

Once he's finished his training, watch out.

Agree to disagree, then. Rey manages to use the Force when she most needs to and manages to trump him. Would it not be fair to say that Vader is pathetic, weak, and useless because he fails his mission in Episode VI and dies? What about Darth Maul? He manages one movie, the death of a main character, and dies at the end, which is pretty verbatim to Kylo, minus his death.

I don't believe it's fair to really judge what the character is or isn't yet when that was just the intro film to a new trilogy. Give it time, see how you feel about him in a couple of years once 'Episode IX' has come and gone.

That instant Jedi thing with Rey also was quite troubling and not logical.
    @Creasy47
Yes I'll wait for the next one to finally judge the new films. Episode I also got so much better in retrospect as part of a trilogy :)

@BondJasonBond006, re: Rey's 'instant' powers - that's not explained yet. I'm sure it will unfold in a plausible way in the remaining films. If they had suggested that she had such powers from the beginning (due to relationships etc.) then detractors would have been jumping on that as well saying how it's another riff on A New Hope.

They probably wanted to try a different approach with this one, and that's to their credit.

Maybe. I just didn't like that stuff.
At least technically TFA is perfect. JJ Abrams really knows how to make a movie work, all his movies so far are entertaining, have good pacing, editing, camera work, score, etc.

'Episode I' is honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen, there's so much I don't like that it's nearly impossible for me to see any good in it. Hell, I even remember loving the finale as a kid, and when I rewatched it before TFA, I was rather unimpressed.

Episode I is saved by brilliant Liam Neeson, but it remains the least good of the franchise. TFA though is not even close to the greatness of the original three movies or Episode II or III

If you mean the ones with Hayden, then I have to respectfully disagree. Those were horrendous, including the sap romance in Attack of the Clones & the CGI volcano nonsense in Revenge of the Sith (that film was saved by the incredible theatre performance by McDiarmid's Palpatine), including the infamous 'NOOOOOOO!!!!' and the killing of 'younglings'. Very disappointing for me, and at least imho, almost equivalent to the 1999-2002 period of 'Bond'age as a nadir for a long running & beloved franchise..

There is nothing great about the prequels, you are on a hiding to nothing trying to say they have greatness.

The acting is atrocious in those films, Episode II & III are nowhere near greatness, they are agony to watch, they make me squirm whenever I catch a bit on TV and they've aged terribly.

I used to think ROTS was quite a bit better ( I think I wanted it to be) although a recent watch made me think that they are all about as bad as each other and there is no point trying to say if one is more superior to the other, they are outright rubbish.

TFA was nowhere perfect, my Wife calls in a Episode IV remake, I can see her point to a degree but I was just so carried away by the sheer exuberance of it. The acting was infinitely better than any of the prequels.

I can't wait to see TFA again soon, Blu ray arrives 18th here.

Though Rogue One is going to own it, that cast and plotline, I can't wait.

Rogue One looks great, maybe that's more for me. TFA just feels too much like aimed at teenagers.

I have never been a "fan" of Star Wars. I like the movies, I own them on Blu-ray and re-watch them every other year or so.

I am a Trekkie. There lies my passion.

If I own a full set of movies in a series that I both watch and enjoy at least once a year, I'd consider myself a fan, diehard or not.

I grew up with Star Wars and the first film was my 2nd ever trip to the cinema (1st SWLM)

For some reason never got to see ROTJ although caught it on the Re-releases in the late 90's (the dreaded special editions).

My anticiaption for the prequels was built up over well over a decade so when they arrived and they were 3 over extended toy commercials with a large order of cheddar and some of the most wooden acting of all time, yeah I was big time disappointed.

TFA sated my appetite, I went in level headed and just wanted to be entertained as the previous film I'd seen to this left me very disappointed. Episode VII definitely made me leave the cinema with a smile.

As for Trek, never been a huge fan, like some of the original films, Wrath of Kahn being my favourite. I enjoyed both of the JJ films and caught them at the cinema but from the looks of the trailer this new film looks very worrying.

Hoping the trailer isn't typical of the film, also Justin Lin doesn't leave me that confident, never been a fan of the F&F films, tried to watch the first one with the Rock in recently and got half way through and turned it off bored to tears.

As I've said. The Force Awakens wasn't supposed to break new ground, it was supposed to secure the old ground layed out by the original trilogy so it didn't scare fans away, That's where Rogue One and Episode 8 and so on will Break new ground. It's a throwback movie but there's nothing wrong with that at least it felt like the original trilogy.

Rogue One looks fantastic. Can't wait!
My hopes aren't up, but if they just at least mention Kyle Katarn by name I'll be ecstatic!

Also watched The Force Awakens (for the 3rd time, this time at my parents house). My dad went with me on my second viewing, and was confused at some parts, and my mom had yet to see it-- she saw the original trilogy only (lucky)
My dad had a better grasp this time around, and my mom, who knew who Luke, Han, etc. were, but wasn't really a 'hardcore fan' like me, found TFA to be 'alright'.

As the credits rolled, she asked "but who was that old man at the end though?"

    giphy.gif

I was like "well now we have to watch the WHOLE movie again!!"
