But ESB's the best film in terms of consistent quality.
It was the first time we had gotten that since RotJ's duel between Luke and Vader.
The opening of RotS is exhilarating and better than any action sequence in TFA. I love how we are thrown into the action from the get-go.
:)>-
That's good, hopefully you enjoy the latter two. I'd love to go back and rewatch the original trilogy for the first time.
Both is delicious but only one is for adults.
;) right you are, corrected it
;) Sorry could not resist.
This is what the majority of blockbusters is now, all your beloved comic book franchises, it makes my head hurt, I remember watching the first Avengers film, the last 30 minutes is just CGI and noise, that is the prequels legacy for you there.
I can't stand the prequels, they weren't made for old school SW fans whereas despite it's short comings TFA was.
Episode VIII will be the real tester if they rehash things then and I'll acknowledge it but I think TFA can get a free pass because it felt like Star Wars and had a heart which was severely lacking in the prequels and was so much better than SPECTRE.
In the prequels, there were several important and tragic events that take place, but most revolved around that clown Christensen, who couldn't sell it (and quite frankly butchered the moment). That's why, for me, the most impactful moments in the prequels are still the death of Qui-Gon Jinn (Neeson had the gravitas to sell it) and the appearance of Darth Vader at the end of RoTS.
Yes, total agreement here!
Those films were highly successful and they are far from being hated like they obviously are hated on here.
Sure Episode I didn't impress me much, I found young Anakin but especially JJBinks obnoxious. But Episode II and III are great and excited a whole generation of movie goers. They are so good, that even Episode I wasn't regarded as so weak anymore in retrospect.
Some of you act like it was common knowledge that those 3 movies are crap or generally disliked or whatever. It's just not so.
Personally I only got to know the originals when they came to the cinema with new special effects and enhanced in 1997/1998. I liked them of course but I couldn't see that big a difference in quality to the next three movies.
I can see that the original trilogy are timeless classics and of course they will always be loved for that fact.
TFA clearly is aimed at the Disney Channel generation that grew up to iCarly, Zack & Cody, etc.
That's not a criticism, just saying. The cast is so clearly chosen after the same pattern, casting was made for franchises like Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Divergent etc.
For me that is not what I expected from a new Star Wars movie.
Episode I to III had actors like Liam Neeson, EwanMcGregor, Christopher Lee, Samuel L.Jackson, Natalie Portman, Jimmy Smiths, Temuera Morrison, etc.
TFA has?????....the old crew for nostalgia and quite frankly without Ford the movie would have crashed and burned.
The next one will have to bring a considerably better cast.
(Oscar Isaac is the only ray of hope in TFA)
TFA is a very well made great Sci-Fi movie, that's for sure. I bought the steelbook and I will re-watch it regularly.
Maybe I can compare it to QOS. Also quite disappointing back then as a Bond movie I still could enjoy it immensely for the mindless action roller-coaster it is.
Having said that QOS is of course miles better than TFA.
People really need to stop pretending that the prequels have any value whatsoever. I grew up on them like you, but they really are just terrible. If you can't tell the difference between the prequels and films like Star Wars or The Empire Strikes Back then that's a shame. I think watching these reviews will be really worth your time:

The original films had a largely unknown cast with some old thespians thrown in for good measure, pretty much exactly like TFA. It's a much better way of doing things than having the likes of Samuel L Jackson force his way through Lucas' embarrassing dialogue.
I will PM you.
The guys have done good commentaries on all 7 movies.
Not convinced myself, what do people think are good potential titles for episode VIII?
Rise of the First Order is my best guess.
