I expect the designer who worked on the official SP artworks works at a regular graphic design studio in London rather than in house at EON. Rather than being a big Bond fan themselves spending every minute of the day creating Bond (other film|) artworks, they're probably working on a Dyson press ad one day, a ToysRUs picelist the next and in between squeezed a Bond film poster so Bond knowledge/history/tradition will need to imparted from the client commissioning the brief. Then of course there's what's filtered out inhouse before presenting first drafts to EON which may be quite wacky/creative and finally when it then goes as the client narrows down/vetoes it as it all gets sharpened up (dumbed down?).
Don't be too harsh on the designers - maybe they had some truly tremendous Bond art but the client gets what the client wants - they're the ones paying!!
I think the simpler spectre ones we got are great. They're like fashion 48 sheet ads. They fell high end and luxury. Particularly the bw. They're actually different to most movie posters and that's the point of difference
