TMWTGG has great atmosphere, especially during that scene outside the bottoms up club.

Thank you, @bondjames, I didn't know what to watch tonight, I'll go with a LALD/TMWTGG double bill!

You can't go wrong @DaltonCraig007. They are a perfect pair. My parents once recounted a memorable double bill they saw at Odeon Leicester Square in the early 70's, and told me how much fun it was.

In honour of that, we rewatched them both on the small screen together back to back a few yrs ago. Awesome stuff.

Has anyone ever watched SF and SP back to back? I imagine that must be a difficult feat, given they are both 2hrs 20+.

I once watched The Two Towers and Return of the King back to back. That was heavy going.

It would definitely end up being much shorter for me, since I can't get through SP after the torture sequence without turning the player off. Given how different they are tonally, I don't know if I'd enjoy it so much anyway (despite the continuity). I don't really like watching CR/QoS back to back either, for the same reasons, although I enjoy them individually.

DN/FRWL go well together, as do GF/TB, TSWLM/MR (despite the tonal variations), and the two Dalton films (since they capture and bookend his entire tenure).

I agree that the Dalton films make a great double bill. It feels really satisfying to cover his entire tenure in one sitting. I've never tried Spy/Raker before, I Imagine that would be pretty epic. I tend to pair TB with YOLT more than anything.

I can go through SF and SP in one sitting, however I can only accomplish that if I watch SP before SF. I've tried SF first several times, and can never go beyond the PTS in SP.

I've watched all Four of Craigs films back to back. The only time I struggled was through SF! But I struggle through that on its own anyway!
Daltons 2 I have watched many times back to back. Its a superb double bill!
FYEO and OP are also worth watching together!

Everything is evolving, so is my ranking.

I was in search of the ultimate ranking of the Bond movies and I believe I have found it.
It's dramatically different in places to what I considered my ranking up to a couple of months ago.
I can see clearly now and here is it is:

    1 OHMSS
    2 GF
    3 FRWL
    4 CR
    5 TSWLM
    6 GE
    7 TLD
    8 FYEO
    9 SP
    10 DN
    11 QOS
    12 DAF
    13 MR
    14 TND
    15 OP
    16 LALD
    17 LTK
    18 DAD
    19 YOLT
    20 AVTAK
    21 TB
    22 TWINE
    23 TMWTGG
    24 SF
  • GE in your top ten, @Birdleson? Wonderful!

You know I made several rankings. One based on how I would objectively rank the movies. One was my old ranking that had a lot of nostalgic reasons for rankings in it and one based on the fun-factor, the Bond films I love to watch most (re-watchability).

Based from those three rankings I made this ultimate ranking.

I could never seriously claim Spectre is the best Bond movie ever made, objectively speaking. It would not even appear in my Top 10. But re-watchability is very high and the "nostalgia" factor is highest as it was the greatest cinematic experience in a decade for me (only rivalled by Batman Begins).

As for Skyfall. Objectively I'd rank it in the middle as even the most idiotic story (holes) in the franchise can't completely destroy the greatness of the Cinematography, Cast, Direction and the Skyfall Sequence (minus the bloody flashlight incident).
But re-watchability factor is ZERO for me. And I was hugely disappointed seeing it at the cinema.
So yes, finally I realise this is the bottom film for me. And I'm not the only one, I know at least two other regular members of this site have it at No 24 as well.

The highest jump made DAF, I explained it in another thread, short story: From bottom to No 12 because DAF is the most re-watchable Bond film for me, and today I LOVE the humour, the gay Wint & Kidd, Tiffany and the silly car chase through Las Vegas or the moon buggy.
Objectively it is still the least good Bond ever made, but boy is it fun to watch it.

OP suffered the most in my new ranking. From 6 to 15. It never had left my Top 6. But it was mainly for nostalgia. Without that factor No 15 seems right.

SP, GE, TLD, OHMSS, CR, FRWL, GF that was my Top 8 before (OP was 6), so these 7 movies have remained in my Top 10 if in slightly different order.

I can discuss a lot of things but not that OHMSS and FRWL and GE are the best three Bond movies. Nobody and nothing will ever convince me otherwise and I always said so even when I ranked them 3rd, 6th and 7th (before SP).

I agree with you for the most part, literally, due to the similarity of our rankings.

Our main difference is spectre and I expect the reason you rank SF last is why I rank both Mendes movies last. There's no rewatchability, bad pacing, (mostly) uninspired action sequences and worst of all horrendous score

My main source of enjoyment is the Q and M scenes

I did this based on most watchable, the ones that I could repeatedly watch
and never get tired of it!

I think it's pretty fair. Any comments or critiques??

Good list @CASINOROYALE. MR seems high...does the comic style not grate on you? LTK & QofS seem low for someone who enjoys a more Fleming Bond (i.e. your top 7)?

Its awfully brave to put SP that high. I think that SP is one of the most underrated films in the series, and I still have it hovering around my top 10.

It's about there on my list too. Agreed. I still maintain that the pre-title sequence of SP is iconic Bond too.

It's based on what I think the best overall films are. License To Kill is a great 80s action movie but it just doesn't have a classic Bond feel to it.

Quantum Of Solace is also a fun movie, exotic locations. Just watched it again last week.. I feel like the movie is rushed though. Something about it doesn't give off classic Bond vibes to me. I am big about traditional Bond moments in the films.. I am sure if I rewatched the entire series I would probably move some of the films around..

Moonraker is sitting where it's at because, yes the humor is great imo and Jaws and Bonds interacting is fantastic! I love how they always stop and kinda smile at each other.

Several great chase scenes, outer space, Bond free falling out of the plane.. Many great moments!

Maybe it's ranked too high but I think it's a classic.

I fee like if you watched my list backwards, starting with "Die Another Day", to "Goldfinger", you'd feel like the movies get better and better when you move up the list!

    @Birdleson

I know I've been gone a loooooong time, but I just checked your most recent ranking and I heartily approve of your new TWINE and other Broz placements. *salutes*

@bondjames - Hope all is well with you also. I know we used to chit chat on here as well and got along well.

I'll try to be more active. Just been giving Bond a pretty long break.

@ThighsOfXenia, it's good to have you back. I was wondering where you've been. It's much the same around here so you've not missed much. Not much news to go on from EON, so speculation is running rampant regarding possible successors to Craig and what not. Views on SP remain as polarized as ever too.

I'm keen to see it again. Sort of. I figure I've about had my fill of long-winded points and discussions and arguments on it though, haha. It is sitting with me about where I had it last ranking (low teens, I believe).

@bondjames - Any big shifts in your own Bond rankings? I try to keep up with my acquaintances' Bond opinions haha, as I did with Birdleson.

@bondjames Right you are. No doubt she will make yet another appearance down the road, but I quite like this one.
  • I don't think I've done a ranking since Spectre, so now it has had some time to settle in, here goes:

    1. Quantum of Solace
    2. Spectre
    3. Casino Royale
    4. Skyfall
    5. The Living Daylights
    6. Licence to Kill
    7. Goldeneye
    8. Dr No
    9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    10. For Your Eyes Only
    11. Tomorrow Never Dies
    12. From Russia with Love
    13. You Only Live Twice
    14. Octopussy
    15. The Man with the Golden Gun
    16. The Spy Who Loved Me
    17. Live and Let Die
    18. Goldfinger
    19. The World is Not Enough
    20. Thunderball
    21. Die Another Day
    22. Moonraker
    23. Diamonds are Forever
    24. A View to a Kill

I'm not going to pretend that this list is objective but this is what floats my boat - anything with Dan or Tim and a bit of Roger cheese thrown in for good measure. However, I do love them all, even my bottom 4 picks still have a lot of classic moments to enjoy.

If I was trying to be objective, I think CR, OHMSS and FRWL are probably the highest quality films, but they aren't necessarily the ones we enjoy most.
