What a delectable list.
Thank you!
Ha Ha!! It's become a habit to re-rank nearly every time I pop in a Bond. I figure if we're not getting regularly scheduled Bond films in the Craig era, the least I could do is post a new ranking every week.
Why not, always interesting to see.
1) CR
2)SP, don't get the hate it receives
3) QoS , not over or underrated
4) SF , way too overrated.
As of the ones I've watched this year
1)GF
2)DN
3)YOLT
4) LALD (Moore makes this one better than the rest on my list)
5)TB
4) FRWL
6) DAF
7) OHMSS ( this time I had a bit of a hard time sit this one through, because I wanted to see more Connery, hence DAF being higher on my list, or the first one with Moore. I kept thinking ; can't this be over yet)
For the record, I don't think FRWL or OHMSS are bad films in any way. DR.NO and Goldfinger have always been two of my favorite Bond films of the first three Connery films.
Can't agree with you on OHMSS though! Has never gone down in any way for me over the years.
The finest Bond movie of them all!
Until the dreaded DAD appeared I would have had DAF near the bottom. I can take it or leave it now but it comes nowhere near OHMSS excellence!
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service/Thunderball (shares the second place, as I can't place one above or under the other)
4. For Your Eyes Only (very enjoyable experience the last time, and I can't wait to see it again)
5. The Spy Who Loved Me (only just below FYEO, but the last viewing of the latter makes the difference)
6. Dr. No
7. Goldfinger
8. Live and Let Die
9. Octopussy
10. The Living Daylights
*4th-10th change places with every viewing. Usually all are top 10 with every viewing.
11. Casino Royale (!)
12. Licence to Kill
13. Goldeneye
14. The Man with the Golden Gun
15. Quantum of Solace
16. Diamonds Are Forever
17. You Only Live Twice
18. A View to a Kill
19. The World Is Not Enough
*11th-19th are the most difficult ones. CR often in top 10, but not the last time, unfortunately.
20. Moonraker
21. Tomorrow Never Dies
22. Skyfall
23. Die Another Day
24. Spectre
*20th-24th are the ones that I watch the least, and they fail to climb the rankings. Didn't include CR 54, CR67 or Never Say Never Again in this list - a list that surprised even me, but there you go.
It's just so damn fun!
I can forgive it's silly moments in that Melina Havelock is serious enough for both herself and Bond combined. It works, if you ask me.
Edit: Forgot the (Simple list, no details) bit, but I hope I can be forgiven for some quick notes.
Edit: never mind. It's at 2
I think that he placed Thunderball in a tie for third. Whenever someone ranks two films equally, I always place in the order in which they were named in my cumulative ranking sheet. That may be a bit of a liberty on my part, but I think that it is the best way to do it.
Watching Spectre, (which I have admittedly only seen once) I found myself a bit puzzled as to where all of the money went. It didn't feel to me like a film with anywhere near the budget that it actually had.
I don't like the opening credits theme in Spectre much either.
The comic book adaption of FYEO was the first in Norwegian too, I think? Bought a used copy some years ago. Also, Moore would have been a popular figure here by then, with The Saint and The Persuaders. Haven't been aware of the Cec Linder popularity, though.
FYEO is a summer film for me, but those Cortina scenes do have a Easter like "quality". :)
Feels a bit like cheating, I have to admit, but can't find a reason to rank one over the other. Might follow this way of placing them next time around, if OHMSS and TB (or other films for that matter) rank the same.
One of my issues with SP, as well. Don't know if it's the sets, locations, cinematography or other elements, but I don't feel they made the most of it.
Haha. Nice one! I dunno. I didn't get to see FYEO in the cinema and I think my first viewing was at Easter or some such. When I bought the set on blu-ray, it was again Easter when I watched it. So ever since...
