Seeing GF ranked so high makes

    A) glad, it's a pop culture masterpiece

    and

    B) guilty for not having it higher.

And TWINE down so low? For shame!!!

There was a time that I had it as a Top Ten, but it just continues to bore me over the years.

I have trouble staying tuned in at all with TWINE. Its like watching a bowl of bran flakes for two hours. I really wanna like it more (the Bilbao part of the PTS is mostly nice), but when I watch it, every object in my living room instantly becomes more interesting.

TWINE was once my favorite Brosnan era film. A title that evoked Fleming, Sophie Marceau, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, a great Arnold score, and Brosnan in top form.
Lately I have a hard time finishing it once I put it on. I get past the titles and feel in the mood for a Connery instead, so out TWINE goes, and in FRWL.

I'm afraid I can't agree with your assessment of the lead in the film.

There really is no comparison with FRWL, which I had the privilege of viewing last night. Such a class act, and it was clear to me yesterday that quite a few small elements were borrowed here and there for CR.

I think Apted was just out of his league for this kind of production. It's apparent to me that he had no clue how to direct action in a big budget film like this, despite being a well respected arthouse sort of director. I definitely hope that we don't encounter a similar problem with Boyle's B25.

True. Pierce was no where near Connery in FRWL. One of the reasons when watching TWINE, I tend to take it out and pop in FRWL instead. At the time of release, I probably felt it was Brosnan's best performance as Bond, but the film hasn't held up for me as much on an entertainment level.Been ages since I watched it all the way through.

Ok so talk of Diamonds are Forever made me want to rewatch it, so I stuck it on for an evening viewing. I agree with the assessments of the film, it's so darn entertaining and Connery is a hoot. I actually think the "campness" of the film is its greatest strength (that and the ripping dialogue).

For me, it has to be the chemistry between Connery and Gray. A joy to behold.

I've always really liked that as well. I suppose a lot of it is due to first impressions viewing it as a kid. This is the film where I saw the most of Blofeld first, since I hardly viewed OHMSS back then. There is a natural rapport and flow between Gray and Connery, and that's apparent even in YOLT.

Lazenby/Savalas and Connery/Gray are both great Bond/Blofeld pairings.

Bondathon that will finish at some point leading to the release of Bond 25. Watching the films from bottom to top tier. After watching Quantum of Solace:

    1. Thunderball
    2. Quantum of Solace

The dialogue alone is enough to make Thunderball higher. The only exciting thing about Quantum of Solace is the score - Arnold's music may even rate higher than a Barry score or two this time.

    Ranking of the Moore films
    1. For Your Eyes Only - unique because it's actually a relatively serious Bond film. It goes on a bit long but I love it nonetheless. 9.5/10

    2. Live and Let Die - so entertaining and Moore is already on fire. 9/10

    3. The Spy Who Loved Me - an epic film that shows Moore at his best. 9/10

    4. Octopussy - uneven in tone but who really cares? Fun ride all the way through. 9/10

    5. Moonraker - Bond in space shouldn't work but it surprisingly does. 8/10

    6. A View to a Kill - so eighties that it hurts...in a good way. Amazing score. 8/10

    7. The Man with the Golden Gun - could have been a great but it's still enjoyable. 7.5/10

Thanks. I've been keeping LALD in my top 10 lately. It was one of my favorite Roger's when I was a kid.

It's odd how often I see Octopussy tied with Never Say Never Again. It doesn't make much sense to me. Is it because they were released the same year?

For me, in some ways it is. That was the summer I really got interested in the Bond films. Having just watched an ABC airing of DR NO, then my folks taking me to see OP, I was more than thrilled to see Connery come back in a "different" Bond film.
Sometimes I prefer OP, other times it's NSNA, but overall I love them both equally.

GF in my opinion is more iconic than entertaining. It doesn’t have that adventurous exoticness to it and the ranch scenes are really dull I think. That’s why it fell out of the top 10 this time.

YOLT and LALD are definitely fun. But it’s the whole becoming Japanese part with the overlong fake marriage that bugs me in YOLT. LALD if you don’t mind me saying so, feels a bit cheap at times, especially the San Monique scenes.

QOS has a lot going for it. I’d even say Craig gives his most Bondian performance in it. Nevertheless, and I’m afraid this will sound clichéd by now, but the hyperactive editing really takes me out of the movie. It takes no time to breath.

I agree regarding YOLT. The turning Japanese/ wedding section really drags it down and it was commented on here that the Little Nellie scene isn't as great as its made out, which I also agree.
The editing thing still seems to bother most about QOS. It doesn't with me anymore, but I have say it's the quieter scenes that I love most. Scenes with Mathis and Camille and final scene with M. (Actually ALL Bonds scenes with M are great, particularly when she is removing her makeup with a frenzy at Bonds insubordinance!)
LALD just has fond memories for me and thought it could do with tightening up, it has so many great characters and set pieces that it still an entertaining watch.

I’ll probably have two more Bondathons between now and Bond 25 - one at the end of this year/beginning of next year and one more going up to Bond 25 next year. Until then, my ranking probably won’t change a lot. MR shooting up a few spots was a big surprise for me recently though.

This persistent adoration of QoS from you all has encouraged me to revisit it shortly. Perhaps I was wrong about it. I’m unsure, though. Once upon a time it was in my top ten, and fell and fell and fell after that on subsequent viewings. I am looking forward to it, and I hope I discover an appreciation of it that many of you have. Disliking things is never as much fun.

Regarding the last page’s discussion on TWINE, and to completely contradict myself about being a champion of enjoyment, it’s nice to see a (somewhat) large group of people wising up and realizing that TWINE is the worst of Brosnan’s four.

Can you re-post your ranking? Sorry, I didn't see it in the last two pages, and I don't want to dig through 190 others!
