Thank you Mathis! I totally get why people like SP. it’s filled to the brim with classic bond moments and bond references. I’m much less of a purist when it comes to bond. I loved the new take on certain tropes and the complete disappearance of others. Keeps things more interesting to me. OHMSS and CR pretty much share the lead for me for that exact reason lol
Ho can you put NTTD at number 16 when it hasn't even been released!?
Excellent list by the way! While I find Spectre quite enjoyable (it’s mid tier for me), there’s definitely a sense that it’s a bunch of talent working with a hopeless script. It’s a well polished turd. A pig with exquisite lipstick. Veneer. Bloated. Somewhere in there amongst the chaos there is a good film though... (at least up through the Morocco train scene).
Thanks! For me it was great up until the car chase scene. The fact that he was on the phone severely distracted the scene from having any real tension. Felt like a wasted opportunity. Then the entire third act just felt forced and characters had no drive. The plot twist and the fact that all the DC movies were connected in a really lazy predictable way ruined a lot of the last 4 movies for me as a running story. Very unfortunate they went the route they did, so much potential when that film was being made 😢
There was no offense in my response and I’m totally free to express how I feel about such a strong position like putting SP at the far bottom of a list. SP miles beyond something like DAD is unintelligible, to me, like I said. And I’m free to say that. So please, keep the censorship do something more appropriate.
Thanks for the clarification. ;)
I feel the same way about SP and the Craig era as a whole. It just shows why it's a bad idea (IMO) to have several Bond films connected. Standalone missions is the way to go.
Of course you will. Just want to let you know that agreeing with someone who calls others legitimate and no offensive points of view “crap”, while warning me for just saying my opinion about such a strong position about SP, it’s depressing and definitely not a good example to younger users. BTW hopefully in time you’d be able to appreciate what they did in SP. ;)
No, it's this nudge nudge wink wink, holier than thou attitude that we're sick of.
It gets tiresome, and there's no need for it. I simply do not understand why people cannot just accept that for some, Spectre is their least favourite film and be done with it, without feeling obliged to point out that they find it "hilarious".
And I'm out.

Yes, indeed. I've also been appreciating the Pierce era more lately.
Last year December, to celebrate the upcoming new year, we did a big ranking competition on jamesbond.nl. We asked every voter to put themselves in the shoes of a movie journalist/critic and come up with their TOP 10 of Best Bond films. Then we added Eurovision-style points to each individual TOP 10 ranking. In the end 340 Bond fans (and other movie lovers), both Dutch and foreign, sent in their TOP 10's. This was the eventual final result ;-):

Thanks for that, very interesting! And it's very similar to the rankings I've compiled, despite the different points mechanism (I go through people's rankings and assign 24 to the top and 1 pt to last place, then add up everyone's totals).
This is my latest Bond forum update from April (Mi6Community, cBn, AJB007):
01. OHMSS (4398)
02. CR (4394)
03. FRWL (4336)
04. GF (3933)
05. TLD (3704)
06. TSWLM (3560)
07. DN (3464)
08. SF (3460)
09. GE (3451)
10. TB (3180)
11. LTK (3120)
12. FYEO (2950)
13. LALD (2677)
14. SP (2608)
15. OP (2541)
16. YOLT (2400)
17. QOS (2181)
18. TND (2066)
19. TMWTGG (1818)
20. MR (1799)
21. TWINE (1749)
22. DAF (1623)
23. AVTAK (1467)
24. DAD (862)
To be honest, that ranking looks a lot like a more ‘general public’ ranking than a Bond fan ranking.
FRWL, OHMSS, TLD, DN and OP are rather low compared to usual fan forum concensuses.
Furthermore the top 3, especially in that order, is very much a ‘general public’ view on the Bond series. I would also say the inclusion of the latest film, SP in this case, very much reflects that.
No offense of course ;), I always appreciate these initiatives.
But isn't this the "simple list" thread with "no details"?
[-X
@ToTheRight interesting top 11... :D
This is also some sort of confirmation that in the real world outside this community SP is ranked quite good. Not among the best but 100% above the average Moore/Dalton/Brosnan entry and far above QoS, which in the real world is universally perceived as the worst Craig entry.
Perhaps we fans exaggerate a bit sometimes. And therefore non-fans put us with both feet back on our feet again 😜. It's a bit enlightening to escape the fan bubble at times.
The problem with fans is that they often tend to speak for the rest of "us".
This comes from a Metallica fan, btw..
Excellent Top 5, sir!

For Spectre, that's also true about popular opinion. I think it likely extends to this community as well, though folks at this point in Bond History aren't as inclined to voice support alongside some repeated complaints. Similar to the rhythm of Quantum of Solace's reception and eventual "resurrection".
Very, very, very, very true, @JamesCraig.
Another Dr No fan. ;-)
Nice meeting you sir.
:D
Not to be demeaning but fans are still the connaisseurs and they know their stuff. There is a difference between occasionally liking something and adoring it.
Can’t say I agree with all those self-proclaimed film critics who would have you believe ‘The Dark Knight’ is the best film ever made without ever having learned to appreciate the true fundaments of good filmmaking, like Ingmar Bergman, Fritz Lang or Michelangelo Antonioni to name but a few.
So yes, I don’t think all those casual viewers who think they know Bond and proclaim CR and SF as ‘the best Bond films ever’, despite not having any idea whatever Bond is all about, are to be taken seriously.
Nevertheless, I know you guys do know your stuff and if you like SP that’s fine by me. I’m sure your reasons for liking it are well-founded since I know you are in the know too. Like everyone on this forum is.
Wise words. My fav directors are Welles, Tarkovsky and Antonioni. I think the best director living today is Kechiche, at least the one who makes the most interesting and powerful films. And I like SP, for a lot of reasons.

That's a really good list. Fine choices.
Though you might think it’s a good list, all the Moore and Brosnan fans are scoffing. I really like those guys, they just happen to be in some of the weaker entries in the series. FYEO and GE are quite enjoyable Bond films. Not golden like the first 9 or 10 on my list but certainly not down in the dregs with what I call The Fatuous Five, OP, TMWTGG, MR, AVTAK and DAD. I have a hard time sitting through these all the way.
Yes, TLD is a great entry. But I'm a Dalton fan and honestly I'd put LTK slightly higher TLD, just for a simple reason: it has a stronger identity and a more unique concept behind it. But I love both.
Speaking about the others yes, I feel the same. I like both Moore and Brosnan - even if I'd choose Moore any time, he's just pure class and fun - but I find their entries the weakest. The cool thing is that even in the worst Bond film there's always something enjoyable in it. The SP haters won't agree with this, but I'm happy to feel this way.
Great top ten apart from SP. Put in FYEO and it's the same as my mine. Albeit in a different order.
