Jep and i am happy, that this chapter closes now.
Maybe 007 will become again classy, elegant, intelligent, humorous, communicative, more spy (and less killer), tall etc. More Connery-Dalton-Moore territory again:

I do agree with this on a certain level. Even though I enjoy some of the post 1990 Bond films, I still find the 62-89 period to be the more elegant one. Wish they'd go back to that.

But Bond has always been a child of its time, and I'm afraid we're not very much living in an era in which elegance and subtlety are perceived as important assets to a man's world. Regretfully so, but also very true. I'm not expecting them to return to a more elegant gentleman spy anytime soon. Unfortunately.

I have to confess I’m not the biggest Craig fan either. I find the overall quality of his era completely inconsistent. Love Casino Royale, but the rest of his films are hit and miss with me. Quantum of Solace is messy, Skyfall is overrated imo, and Spectre is just trash. Not impressed by anything I’ve seen from No Time To Die either.

Both of you have Spectre ranked dead last, do you not? You both think that it was THAT bad?

Yes. Absolutely the worst. The only Bond film that gives me zero pleasure or joy. There are flawed Bond films, significantly flawed (DAD and MR, to name two), but at least there are moments I love in them, true Bondian moments. At best, the Mr. White scene is kind of interesting, but even that didn't come of anywhere near as intense and thrilling as I would have liked. And I really dislike Craig's take on the role in that one. You'll find several others that have it dead last if you look a bit more. It bores me (I actaually nodded off in my first viewing, then saw it in the theatre six more times trying my best to enjoy it, out of incredulity).

You don’t even like the SP pre-title sequence?

Not entirely satisfied with that last list, so I decided to re-evaluate the films and try again.

    Platinum
    Absolute favourites.
    Licence to Kill (1989)
    The Living Daylights (1987)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
    Thunderball (1965)
    From Russia with Love (1963)

    Gold
    Other favourites.
    Octopussy (1983)
    GoldenEye (1995)
    Casino Royale (2006)
    You Only Live Twice (1967)
The World Is Not Enough (1999)
    Moonraker (1979)

    Silver
Very good Bond films, though there is one major gripe.
    Dr. No (1962)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
    Goldfinger (1964)
    Quantum of Solace (2008)

    Bronze
Flawed Bond films that I nevertheless really like.
    A View to a Kill (1985)
    Never Say Never Again (1983)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
    Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

    Mission accomplished
Some essential things are missing here for me, though these films still manage to entertain overall.
    Live and Let Die (1973)
    Skyfall (2012)
    For Your Eyes Only (1981)
    Casino Royale (1967)

    Mission failed
My least favourite Bond films. But even though they commit some huge atrocities, there are some saving graces too.
    Spectre (2015)
    Die Another Day (2002)
    Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

My ranking hasn’t changed since September, but I was going to make a tiered ranking S through F like you often see, but it was too exhausting trying to find images of all 24 Bond film posters the same size to put them in each tier, so I’ll just write it out:

    S Tier (diamond)
CR, TB, FRWL, OHMSS, DN, GF

    A Tier (gold)
    SF, TLD, LTK

    B tier (silver)
    SP, QOS, YOLT, GE

    C tier (bronze)
    FYEO, TSWLM, DAF, LALD

    D tier (aluminum)
    TND, OP, TWINE, TMWTGG, MR

    F tier (plastic)
    AVTAK, DAD
  • I just joined so might as well throw out my current rankings (Goldfinger has long been a top 5 for me, so for so it’s placement after my latest rewatch came as quite the surprise):

    1. Casino Royale
    2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    3. GoldenEye
    4. The Living Daylights
    5. Dr. No
    6. From Russia With Love
    7. Skyfall
    8. For Your Eyes Only
    9. Live and Let Die

My ranking has changed slightly from the last time I updated it, in September. I was thinking about it, and I decided that I like MR more than TMWTGG. A lot more. I don’t know why I had MR lower than it for so long, maybe it was the overwhelming ridiculousness of double-taking pigeons, gondola cars, Jaws falling in love at the drop of a hat, and especially the space scenes. At least it’s memorable, not a lot of TMWTGG is.

I wonder if this will be any different than my last one. I'm not going to look at the old one. I feel fairly decent about this ranking. I'll include NSNA. The only film I *never* know where to put is OHMSS because I don't like Lazenby but I love everything else a lot. I have such a difficult relationship with that movie. I'm actually just going to leave it out for now since I sort of consider it outside my personal canon anyway.

I feel like as a Bond superfan we are all basically like suckers for these movies. Which is why I have literally the top 17 in "tier 1" because I genuinely love every single one of those movies to varying degrees. Whatever. I'm not a very critical watcher when it comes to Bond.

You forgot to include Live and Let Die. As for OHMSS, if you love the film despite Lazenby, put in the middle or higher. If he drags it way down for you, put it lower. As for myself, I love Lazenby and rank OHMSS fourth. I don’t believe in “head canon” otherwise films like DAD, TMWTGG and AVTAK I wouldn’t rank at all. They’re canon. They just suck.

@Thunderball Oh my, I did forget LALD. I don't really "believe" in head canon either, but there are films I sort of push aside when considering Bond's trajectory as a character.

I'll repost an entire ranking after I've gone through the series properly. I've been swamped with graduate school as of late.

@Benny I guess I never realized how relatively low you place the entire Craig Era. Even CR isn't as high as it is for most members.

Neither did I really. And I'm someone who likes Craig as Bond. I even like him in QOS, though it's one of my least popular films. Aside from CR, I find the Craig films either far too long, or the stories to be weakly structured and full of plot holes. Or a combination of both.
However, if you put any of those 24 films on, I'll gladly sit down and watch them.

Welcome to the forum @General_Graves an interesting if not different list. Of course there's nothing wrong with that, and we all have different preferences.
You clearly like the films of Craig, Brosnan and Connery. Which is good.
And not everyone likes Roger Moore. But Octopussy is far too low. Just saying. ;)

Thank you @royale65 sorry to say TWINE is unlikely to go up my ranking anytime soon.
However after recent viewing's of QOS and even GE, both could progress higher than they currently stand.
One of the joys for me of being a Bond fan for many, many years is seeing how films rise and fall over time. I find myself swaying toward the older films for the most part.
But if truth be known, I actually love all the films, in one way or another. ;)

I have been recommended to make a list of my James Bond films in order.
    1. Goldeneye
    2. Goldfinger
    3. Casino Royal
    4. You Only Live Twice
    5. Quantum Of Solace’s
    6. From Russian With Love
    7. Live And Let Die
    8. Die Another Day
    9. The World Is Not Enough
    10. Skyfall
    11. Live And Let Die
    12. Thunder ball
    13. The Living Daylights
    14. Spectre
    15. Diamonds Are Forever
    16. Doctor No
    17. The Man With The Golden Gun
    18. On Her Majesty Secret Services
    19. Moonraker
    20. The Spy Who Loves Me
    21. License To Kill
    22. For Your Eye Only
    23. Octopussy
    24. A View To A Kill

I am much more liking the films of Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery. I like Timothy Dalton a little. But Roger Moore is not my favourite James Bond. Too old and very silly for some of his films.

Well its good to see QOS so high as it divides so many fans.
But I dont share your dislike of Roger, or your love of Brossa! Quite a diverse list!
