My latest ranking of 2021 shows more love for the Brosnan and Craig films but seems to sacrifice some of the Connery and Moore outings. Odd to place DAF so low considering how often I pop that one in.

    1. GOLDFINGER
    2. LIVE AND LET DIE
    3. DR. NO
    4. SKYFALL
    5. CASINO ROYALE 06
    6. THUNDERBALL
    7. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    8. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    9. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    10. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    11. GOLDENEYE
    12. OCTOPUSSY/NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
    13. SPECTRE
    14. MOONRAKER
    15. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    16. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    17. QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    18. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN/CR 54
    19. LICENCE TO KILL
    20. A VIEW TO A KILL
    21. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    22. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    23. TOMORROW NEVER DIES/ CR 67

Did you always place QOS so low?
Ironic you have it below TWINE, one of the slowest paced Bonds to QOS, which moves like a bullet!

I’m just as surprised to see DAD, DAF, SP and QOS above LTK, OHMSS and even TLD 😯 Still, decent list nonetheless

I'm going to try something different.

I will be dividing the films into subdivisions according to my enjoyment of them. This way I won't be forced to make too many painful decisions.

Films ranked chronologically within their subdivisions.

    FAVOURITES
    From Russia with Love
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    The Living Daylights
    Licence to Kill

    TOP 10
    Dr. No
    Thunderball
    For Your Eyes Only
    Octopussy
    GoldenEye
    Casino Royale

    SOFT SPOTS
The Man with the Golden Gun
    Never Say Never Again
    The World Is Not Enough
    Quantum of Solace

    GOOD
    Goldfinger
    You Only Live Twice
    Live and Let Die
    The Spy Who Loved Me
    Moonraker
    A View to a Kill
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    Skyfall

    DISAPPOINTING
    Diamonds Are Forever
    Die Another Day
    Spectre

Five of my Top 12 (my Ten is too fluid) are all the way down in your good pile.

I still really like those films though. That's the luxury we have as fans. At least 20 of these films remain thoroughly enjoyable. And even the ones down at the bottom have a few saving graces.

I used to do a new ranking every other week. That was my goal until NTTD's release. My intention was to have these consistent re-rankings appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season. Oh, well.
    Either way....I'm over due...............here goes:

    1. THUNDERBALL
    2. GOLDFINGER
    3. LIVE AND LET DIE
    4. SKYFALL
    5. DR. NO
    6. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    7. CASINO ROYALE 06
    8. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    9. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    10. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    11. OCTOPUSSY/NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN
    12. SPECTRE
    13. LICENCE TO KILL
    14. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    15. MOONRAKER
    16. QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    17. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    18. GOLDENEYE
    19. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY/CR 54
    20. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    21. A VIEW TO A KILL
    22. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    23. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    24. DIE ANOTHER DAY/CR 67

  • For variety's sake, I've pulled the Bond film ratings from the Russian equivalent of IMDB-, Kinopoisk.ru, where each Bond film has anywhere between 8K and 150K votes. Here is how Russian filmgoers rank the Bond films:

    https://kinopoisk.ru/film/17483/other/

    1. CR 7.75 out of 10
    2. GF 7.69
    3. DN 7.54
    4. SF 7.43
    5. FRWL 7.39
    6. TB 7.32
    7. YOLT 7.20
    8. DAF 7.13
    9. TSWLM 7.12
    10. TND 7.12
    11. GE 7.06
    12. TWINE 7.05
    13. NSNA 7.02
    14. DAD 7.01
    15. FYEO 6.99
    16. TMWTGG 6.98
    17. LTK 6.94
    18. LALD 6.91
    19. OP 6.87
    20. AVTAK 6.83
    21. TLD 6.77
    22. OHMSS 6.70
    23. QOS 6.70
    24. MR 6.68
    25. SP 6.56

Like other international audiences, Russians think highly of the Connery era and Craig's two knockout films, Casino Royale and Skyfall. Then the Brosnan era sticks out as more highly ranked than usual, as that's when Bond was first introduced to Russian audiences. Less love for the Moore films, the Dalton ones, and OHMSS. Spectre is ranked last, but it's score is comparable to that on IMDB.

Years ago I showed TLD to someone who speaks Russian and used to live in Moscow. She enjoyed it but she did tell me that TLD features some hilariously bad Russian accents. Maybe that's something that takes them out of the film...

The Bond series doesn't have a great track record for realistic Russian characters, but some Russians including myself get a kick at how absurd some of these depictions can get in American/British films. With Bond, that absurdity is part of the charm.

SP just gets worse with every (rare) viewing..

By every metric, DAF is horrible. But it is so horrible that I love it--it is a Bond film on acid. Same with LTK and TMWTGG. But MR doesn't hold the same for me. It is missing some sort of charm.

I was thinking about TND and decided it needed to move up several positions; I should watch it again soon. I made a few other minor changes. I know SF's better than SP but I enjoy SP more these days; they could switch in the future.

I've been able to watch about a dozen films so far this year, so I thought it's time for an update. I take no pleasure in how deliberately provocative they tend to look--it's just how things are!

    1. Spectre
    2. The Living Daylights
    3. Licence to Kill
    4. Octopussy
    5. Live and Let Die
    6. For Your Eyes Only
    7. Quantum of Solace
    8. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    9. The Man with the Golden Gun
    10. Diamonds Are Forever
    11. Moonraker
    12. A View to a Kill
    13. Dr No
    14. Skyfall
    15. Thunderball
    16. Die Another Day
    17. The World Is Not Enough
    18. From Russia with Love
    19. You Only Live Twice
    20. Tomorrow Never Dies
    21. Goldeneye
    22. Goldfinger
    23. The Spy Who Loved Me
    24. Casino Royale

Biggest changes for me would be that CR has completed its long journey to the bottom spot (though I don't hate my lowest-ranked movie the way many hate theirs). The later Brosnan movies have jumped quite a bit, particularly TWINE, my previous number 24.

And my viewing of DAF was so wonderful yesterday that it's cracked the top ten and replaced Dr No as my favorite Connery film.

That list is very much your own and I salute you for that @ProfJoeButcher :)

:)) Well, I'm proud to not have a top ten featuring the early Connerys, OHMSS, TSWLM, and the Campbell movies. Those lists seem not to reflect individual taste.

That said, I'm embarrassed in a sense by my bottom four. I don't like being a "here's a hot take" guy!
