Haha, I know you aren't the biggest fan of TLD @barryt007 (I like it even though it isn't one of my favourites), but putting it below DAD is going to...ahem...cause a discussion shall we say ;)

(I agree with you on DAF though - utterly dull and tedious film)

Hahaha i know i know....i have tried to like it over and over.Mind you,i had the same feelings for YOLT and that has moved up the table,as has MR,so you never know.

If i'm caught in the right mood then it wouldnt suprise me to see it move rapidly up the table.

OP in #5 spot. Great stuff BarryT.
A fine top ten by the looks of it. Spy is also nicely placed if I may say so.
Not in agreement on TLD, but then it would be a boring site if we all agreed on everything. DAF is in a similar spot to my placing. I don't hate it, and actually quite enjoy the cracking dialogue. It's just not James Bond to me. More a joke fest with Sean Connery and some terrible (even for '71) special effects.
    OP in fifth spot. ;)

As you know Benster i LOVE OP as you do !!
I have the original movie poster in a big wooden frame centre stage in my living room as it's also my favourite, with Octopussy's eight arms all around Bond.

I agree with your view on DAF as well, the PTS and the fight with Peter Franks are excellent ,it just fell apart when it changed from diamond smuggling to a fully haired Blofeld appearing,it was fine until then !!
I do watch it,there is no Bond film i wont watch, but it will take a lot to move it from the bottom slot, unlike films like TLD which im sure will shoot up the table again when i next view it.

With respect I'm not sure the PTS of DAF is all that much. Blofeld's goons look silly, one of them overacts like mad when the scalpel hits him and let's not forget the laughably bad dubbing.
But at least it's in sync with the end of OHMSS and shows Bond out for revenge...its not my favourite PTS by any means but i find it entertaining, perversely.
It is kind of funny I'll admit that.

Does is really follow OHMSS though? Bond is in high spirits throughout the film, despite the loss of his wife. I take it that the events of OHMSS never happened to Connery's Bond*, and that DAF picks up some time after YOLT.

    * Moneypenny even (heartlessly) comments about Bond brining back 'a diamond, in a ring' for her.
I think the PTS gets away with following it.....just.
The rest of the film is just a waste.

The film opens in Japan, right where Bond was at the end of You Only Live Twice. Blofeld is getting plastic surgery too. Look at those molds, from Pleasence to Gray.

Thats a good point,i never looked at it that way,i wonder if it is a coincidence or deliberate.
The fact that nobody mentions Tracy in the whole film does make you wonder if they deliberately steered DAF away from OHMSS and Bond's marriage,Tracy's death etc.

The different direction fits, as both Lazenby and Hunt were out, so EON ignored the previous film altogether.
See now that makes me see DAF in a totally different light and actually makes it go up in my estimation.
I may have to re-watch it and remove any image of Tracy an OHMSS from my mind, see if i enjoy it more.

    I have a funny feeling i might.

My issue with DAF isn't so much that it ignores OHMSS - my problem is that it just seems rather..boring as a standalone Bond flick.

It's not one of the best, that's for sure. Funny though. I do have a fondness for it.
There are some funny moments certainly but it's always one I struggle to finish whenever I watch it. The goofy tone hasn't aged well, I think pretty much all the action is subpar and the acting at times is terrible. Connery doesn't care, and if he doesn't why should we.

I appreciate that the lighter approach was perhaps needed, but even as a parody I'm not that keen on it. The pace is just too sluggish.

Most importantly for me though there's little TENSION, something a lot of the other sillier films managed to include a bit of. Other than the coffin sequence and the final fight on the boat most of the film is pretty flat IMO. I honestly think I prefer DAD at the moment.

The fight with Peter Franks is fantastic. Don't forget that.

It's not bad but there are several fights I think id put above it.

Bond does mention it in Max Kalba's club when Anya probes him,in TSWLM.

Agreed, its one of the best fights of the series to me,and,if they show the full version and not the cut version, its a brutal fight.
