There were a few on CBn who ranked DAD at 1 or 2 soon after it was released. As for old MI6 I'm sure it was the same but we'll never find out :(

Looking through the member's latest rankings, these members rate all four Brosnan films the highest

    - Szonana (1, 3, 2, 4)
    - mirandafrost (1, 2, 6, 7)
    - RogueThunderball (3, 9, 1, 8)
    - Walecs (2, 9, 8, 10)
    - Murdock (1, 6, 5, 10)
    - LicencedToKilt69007 (1, 3, 2, 13)
    - DutchJamesBondFan (2, 9, 1, 11)

And by the way, the member with DAD at #5 has FRWL, GF, DN, OHMSS at #1-4

This is what fascinates me about member rankings!

On the old MI6 forums, I remember one member, ChanandlerBong I believe, who ranked DAD at #1. To my knowledge the only Bond fan I've seen on a community like this to rank it at the top.

I was just about to mention Chandler Bong. I have never seen anyone else rank DAD in the top spot. From being dead last back in 2002, when I walked out of the cinema, DAD has climbed up my own list. There is some good in DAD, mostly pre-Cuba, it's largely what happens from Cuba on that drags it down.

@MajorDSmythe did DAD also climb on your list because of the 3 films that followed it? ;)

I'm not going to lie, those did lend some help. But to be fair, other films like FYEO (now in my top 10) have gone up (or down), irrespective of how I feel towards other Bond films. And it has been 13 years, I look at DAD now, and while I still have problems with it, there are aspects of the film I like, which I didn't back in 2002.

    Szonana list makes sense.

and it's refreshing to see a different list for a change.

That's true it's nice to see Brosnan at the top for a change

I'm happy to see some support to my list
I truly enjoyed Pierce's films the most They were the perfect blend between comedy action and some romance.

A rather odd list in Rolling Stone. Check out Die Another Day.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/lists/james-bonds-best-and-worst-peter-travers-ranks-all-24-movies-20121109/from-russia-with-love-1963-19691231

Highest I've ever seen DAD rate anywhere I think.

Peter Travis has never been the most level headed critic. I fellow Bond fan/film lover and I were cracking up at this list when it came out several years ago.

That list gave me a good laugh too but then it is his opinion so I respect that.

Look, if your idea of Bond came specifically from TSWLM & MR growing up, then DAD is a GREAT film! It OTT's BOTH of them! :D

Travers is around our age @chrisisall . He's seen the good stuff.
I figured from pix of him, but maybe he's stuck in that goofy fun DAF/Batman thing & likes his Bond... dopey...

@MayDayDiVecnzo. Spot on! Congratulations @Szonana you have the highest rank of DAD on MI6Community at 4th. :)>-

In fact only 33/160 members have it in the top 19

Not the highest rank for DAD though, a user of AJB has it at 2 :))

    Thats cool
I have an original taste, though someone broke my record with DAD.

@Szonana I have a feeling I will like TND more in my current Bondathon. Brosnan looks and acts his best here - the entire Hamburg printing factory scene is fantastic, the way he moves. Not to mention that BMW chase, one of my favs

Wait until you see that breathtaking PTS sequence of TWINE!
Brosnan is fantastic in that one!

Yes, another fav of mine. Arnold's score here is fantastic, and I like the tie adjust, dont' care how silly it is. The best (only?) thing about TWINE

Oh that tie adjust, one of my favourite moments of any Bond movie. Brosnan is the only one besides Moore that had such witty moments without speaking one word!

TWINE has a lot that is good but in the end it is my least favourite Brosnan movie, I just can't stand Renard...

Another sequence that I find fantastic is with those razorblades swinging helicopters destroying Zukovsky's caviar plant.

It's a pretty good scene, particularly Zukobsky's line at the end, but what I find with TWINE is that it lacks visual interest. Compare Istanbul in TWINE vs SF or FRWL.

@Szonana @BondJasonBond006 Sadly a Bond film's gotta be at the bottom and from just watching it I have to agree and LALD will likely be bottom 3. Not for the plot but the whole film is a Guy Hamilton mess, I've never been a fan of his efforts. His films are not engaging in the slightest.

The good points include Mrs Bell, alligators, JW Pepper, the oyster guy.

Some like the apparently funny script but I didn't like it this time around - DAF's is more enjoyable.

    Thus far:

    1. OHMSS
    2. FRWL
    3. DN
    4. DAF
    5. GF
    6. YOLT
    7. TB
    8. LALD
LALD is my No 21 Bond.
Every time I re-watch it I try to figure out why I rank it that low.

LALD does have two of my absolute favourite sequences of any Bond movie:
    - The introduction of Roger Moore in his flat, every second is priceless and no other Bond actor has managed to start that well. Moore had his Bond figured out from the get-go.
    - The best "car" chase scene ever in any movie for that matter! Speedboats and police cars chasing Bond and especially Clifton James in what must be the funniest ever side-character in a Bond movie

His introduction is the worst. It's kinda amusing with Miss Caruso there but pales massively in comparison to all other introductions

I am not a big fan of LALD.

I have to say Guy Hamilton did an amazing job with GF, but LALD is not great. I secretly quite like Gun though.

    @Getafix
GF has iconic moments made moreso by that score.

But all his films are visually dull. The location shots and action camera angles feel off. A bit like the Glen films but at least the latter are fun

GF's not fun? Even GUn is fun IMO.

And the opening aerial shots of Florida in GF are fantastic.

In fact I totally disagree with you. GF "visually dull"? Its jam packed with amazing visuals. Above aerial shot. The golden girl money shot. The DB5 in the Alps. GF's laser room, the billiards room, the interiors of Fort Knox.

GF is one of the most visually stunning movies in the series. And LALD and Gun are not short of visual interest either - lots of iconic images from both.

Yes those scenes are fun, and yes iconic images from LALD/TMWTGG but it's just that. Scenes and images, great for a desktop wallpaper. And I'm not denying their impact on the series, or on me.

But from what the movies have shown me (8 films in) I'd rather visit Japan, Bahamas, Istanbul, than Miami, San Monique (yes I know it's fictional) or New Orleans. Someone made a comment that FRWL immerses you in the sights and culture of Istanbul, and I totally agree. What do we get of Kentucky in GF? A shot of KFC, GF's stud and a car crusher. We got all of one intersection, and airport?, shot of New Orleans assuming it was shot on location

I didn't think I would enjoy YOLT but I loved the shots of Japan, the sunsets, etc, which drew the attention away from the negatives.

I have given up calculating the average for this. With some members posting their updates often, and others not it becomes more and more difficult to keep track. I will do another average after Spectre has been included in several new lists this fall, unless someone beats me to it. Starting fresh, of course. And posting a new list myself, as well.
  • I haven't seen some of the films in years, but going into Spectre this is how I rank them:

    1. From Russia with Love
    2. Casino Royale
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. Thunderball
    5. Skyfall
    6. Dr. No
    7. GoldenEye
    8. Goldfinger
    9. The Living Daylights
    10. For Your Eyes Only
    11. You Only Live Twice
    12. The Spy Who Loved Me
    13. Licence to Kill
    14. Quantum of Solace
    15. Live and Let Die
    16. Moonraker
    17. Octopussy
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. The Man with the Golden Gun
    20. The World is Not Enough
    21. Diamonds are Forever
    22. A View to a Kill
    23. Die Another Day

I don't think my top 3 and bottom 3 are any different than what I had when Casino came out. As for the rest... time tells a different story.
