Fair enough. For me GE is average, but all your comments make sense. Agree on FRWL too.

I hate the Q, Moneypenny and Bond dialogue in the Brosnan era. Those are those juvenile pubs and silt quips. To me, that was the low point in terms of dialogue.

GoldenEye was great, but then things faltered in the next two movies, before collapsing in DAD. This is kind of a theme.
  • Certainly an odd ranking. One Connery movie in the top 12. Wow.

Kleinman was a great new addition, and a couple of the title tracks were as well. (GE and TWINE). Plus Denise Richards in shorts. Just had a strong urge to defend the Brosnan era. I must be drunk.

    Judy Dench was great.
    Gottfried John was great.
    Geoffrey Palmer was great.
Izabella Scorrupco was great. (I remember reading a quote from her saying something like "I'll be happy if I just have to wear a bikini all day". She gets extra marks for that totally un-PC comment alone).

Gottfried John, yes. And Tcheky Kario from same lousy film.

Samantha Bond was great too - despite her awful last line in DAD.

Well, let's not turn this into a Brosnan-Era bashing thread too please (it isn't yet, just saying) ;)

Well, I don't think my ranking is that odd. I do have all 6 actors in the top 6, which shows that I don't let favouritism get in the way in my ranking.

It is very crowed in the upper half of the ranking as I actually love all those movies a lot.
Everything between No 9 and 15 could change again after my next Bondathon.

As a sidenote I did think about putting Dr. No considerably up to No 10 and I probably should, but I'll decide when I have watched it again. For now my decision stands.

Ha. You won't like a friend of mine. I was talking to him the other week and he said "what was that terrible Bond film where he was on a boat with this bloke and the camera keeps tilting all the bloody time".

Obviously, I knew the film he was referring to instantly.

Wow, Die Another Day in the top ten! :-O

Well, you don't see that every day... :)

Before I became a proper member there was someone who had it as their favourite Bond film of all.

GE is by far Brosnan's best Bond film.

Yes I happen to love that movie, I can see past its minor flaws like bad CGI.
I love it for its over-the-top sci-fi almost comic adaption feel. In 2002 that was exactly what the audience wanted. The humour in it is priceless.

I'll agree with this. The first hour of TND was the high point for me, DAD was the obvious low. This era was adequate at best.
  • Shall I turn this topic into a 'contest' too? Adding Eurovision-style points to everyone's TOP 10 ranking :-P? Let's see what the totals are then. And then we can compare with the poll on IMDB, which has 61 voters now.

Well that's a matter of opinion. Certainly not fact. On seeing DAD in '02 I remember coming out of the cinema thinking where was the signature Bond stunt. Where were BJ Worth or Jake Lombard performing some aerial lunacy. Simon Crane or Wayne Michaels making my jaw drop in a stunt that Bond has become famous for.
Instead I got none of that. All to be replaced by over the top CGI.
I've grown fonder of DAD over the years, but it's still a bottom ranking film. At least for me.
The humour was at times good. At times bad. Wouldn't say priceless, but each to their own.

Yes, and now that everyone had its usual go at the Brosnan-era can we continue with the purpose of this thread?
There are enough Brosnan bashing threads around.

since i've recanted on my ranking list - i've decided to reorganize it as such - and always, in my own opinion...

    the best bond film
    FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

    the bond films i like
    GOLDFINGER
    THUNDERBALL
    ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    LIVE AND LET DIE
    THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    OCTOPUSSY
    THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    LICENCE TO KILL
    GOLDENEYE
    CASINO ROYALE
    QUANTUM OF SOLACE
    SKYFALL

the bond films i sort of like - or - may not think are the best, but still enjoy
    DR. NO
    YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    MOONRAKER
    A VIEW TO A KILL
    TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

the bond films i enjoy on a lesser level - aka - the ones i watch the least
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    DIE ANOTHER DAY

i chose to do away with numbering them, as outside of the clear #1 that is FRWL, my rankings tend to be fluid, and can change whenever.. so instead of going through the tedious task of ranking them - which probably wouldn't be truly reflective of my real feelings on each film (as i pretty much like them all).. i decided to group them based on ones i really like, and ones i like less.... i can't do the number game anymore lol..

    Anyone????

Agree on GE's title track & Kleinman. Otherwise it was generally a subpar period for the franchise imho.

It almost appeared like a rival franchise poorly imitating Bond to me, rather than real Bond. Chalk it up to some people getting their feet wet over there, a general lack of confidence in their own product & its huge legacy, and MGM meddling imho.

Once again, someone who has AVTAK ranked higher than me. I feel ashamed.
  • Like in the polls I created on here, I did a very interesting ranking.

    1. I took all people's latest/newest updated TOP 10 rankings (Many people give their updated rankings several times).

    2. I only looked at the posts from this year (1st of January till now. Sorry, because of all the work I didn't see you @walter1985)

    3. Then I added Eurovision style points to each and individual TOP 10 ranking:
    no# 1 - 12 points
    no# 2 - 10 points
    no# 3 - 08 points
    no# 4 - 07 points
    no# 5 - 06 points
    no# 6 - 05 points
    no# 7 - 04 points
    no# 8 - 03 points
    no# 9 - 02 points
    no#10- 01 point

    4. With this system I could add the TOP 10's of 54 forummembers. I added them up all together. And this is the TOP 25 ranking so far:

    IMiA06.png

The funny thing is....the results are almost exactly the same as a similar poll I am conducting on two topics on the IMDB-forum: "SPECTRE"-topic and the "James Bond"=topic. Those results I will post later, so you can compare.

These results make sense (at least to me) I have 8 of the Top 12 in my Top 12 as well and 4 of the bottom 5 in my bottom five.

Been wondering how well this type of poll measures which movies we think are the worst movies. Seems like it measures the best-rated movies (top 10-12 or so) vs. the movies no one thinks are the best.
