I know people love to hate on Glen, but IMHO OP, AVTAK and TLD are all classic Bond films. I would take any of them over TB or YOLT, for instance. [-(

    Absolutely.

All Terrence Young's films are superior including TB. However, I agree that FYEO, TLD and LTK are all great films.

I agree. The gold standard as far as James Bond is concerned, because Young knew how to extract the best out of Connery (playful but still credible and deadly dangerous.....even the way he moved in a Young film was incredible). Getting the best out of Sean Connery means pretty much getting the best you can get for James Bond imho.

You are a man of impeccable taste bondjames. Young also added the panache attached to Bond's dress sence that is absent from Fleming's novels.

I'll never "get" Thunderball's "classic" status. Especially considering it came after the exquisite FRWL and GF.

Thunderball, for me, is a rather over-long affair with very little to maintain my interest for a 2hr+ runtime. Connery is past his prime, Domino is perhaps the most dull Bond girl in the series, Largo makes for an uninteresting villain and the film moves along at a snails pace. Only Barry, Fiona, the SPECTRE meeting and the finale save this film from being a complete borefest.

I posted on here some time ago, my list is a fluid and changing thing. Here it is revised including Spectre (which admittedly still has my impressionable 1st viewing take on it)

    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. Dr. No

Yes, this is about where Spectre sits for me too. I'll be seeing it again tonight.

I hear this a lot about Domino. Yeah, she's pretty, but what else can you say about her? Auger's performance is bland, the character is bland and she conveys as much emotion as a brick wall when she's told her brother is dead.

Same with Largo, just not the pretty part ;) He maintains the same monotonous voice throughtout the film.

Connery is good, but nowhere near is he at the heights as he was from DN-GF. Not the same intensity, not as in interested.

My first ranking upon seeing Spectre - not sure how it will hold up, but here it is for now:

    1. Casino Royale
    2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    3. Goldfinger
    4. GoldenEye
    5. Skyfall
    6. Dr. No
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me
    8. Licence to Kill
    9. Spectre
    10. From Russia with Love
    11. Thunderball
    12. For Your Eyes Only
    13. Live and Let Die
    14. Quantum of Solace
    15. The Living Daylights
    16. The World Is Not Enough
    17. You Only Live Twice
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. The Man with the Golden Gun
    20. Octopussy
    21. Diamonds Are Forever
    22. Die Another Day
    23. A View to a Kill
    24. Moonraker

Note I also moved From Russia with Love above Thunderball for the time being. Both are practically tied, but my current mood leans to the former.

After seeing SPECTRE tonight, and watching the other three Craig films in a row last Sunday, here are my temporary updated rankings. I will see SP again this weekend and, hopefully, my opinion will have changed. Main criteria; one must enjoy oneself when watching the movie.

    1. GOLDFINGER (1964)
    2. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963)
    3. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (1969)
    4. CASINO ROYALE (2006)
    5. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977)
    6. DR. NO (1962)
    7. LIVE AND LET DIE (1973)
    8. THUNDERBALL (1965)
    9. SKYFALL (2012)
    10. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (1967)
    11. QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008)
    12. LICENCE TO KILL (1989)
    13. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981)
    14. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1974)
    15. GOLDENEYE (1995)
    16. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999)
    17. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987)
    18. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971)
    19. A VIEW TO A KILL (1985)
    20. TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)
    21. OCTOPUSSY (1983)
    22. SPECTRE (2015)
    23. DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002)
    24. MOONRAKER (1979)

And I'll add: if the CGI was removed from DAD, and Bond had used the PPK in MR just once, Jinx or no Jinx, SP would be sitting at #24.

@Birdleson, I too placed SPECTRE in my bottom five. I think our thoughts on the film will be pretty much similar.

Yes, I need to watch it a second time. I went to see it with two friends who are huge Craig fans, and we all came out of the cinema deflated and severely disappointed.

I've always been an advocate for seeing a more traditional Craig Bond film, with a little bit more humour. I didn't expect it to come round and slap you in the face with it. At times, I thought I was watching a Brosnan entry. The finale in London could have been completely removed- it's an anticlimax if there ever was one.

Largo isn't one of my personal favorite villains, but other than that I totally agree. I feel bad it just slipped out of my Top 10, because I like it a lot! I think Connery is great in it, and Domino is one of my favorite Bond girls. Connery's first four are all great Bond films IMO.

I've just looked thru the last few lists, Spectre really seems to be polarising people - either it's quite high up or very low down.
I'm guessing it might have to do with people's expectations? I figured there would be more humour in it from comments made by John Logan about a year ago. And heard Sam Mendes talk about how funny it was before I saw it. I loved it, but do wonder if I had gone in not knowing what to expect that my feelings about it might have been different.

I'm actually cool with that. The longer we talk on here, the more we consolidate. But you're right.

I just knew Spectre would be super polarizing! It does make for good discussion and debate though. Still, one view isn't nearly enough to have a final say on it; I've seen every Bond film many times, so I probably won't have a very good grasp on SP until I own it.

Sixteen different members have submitted their ranking post-SP, and I cannot be bothered to keep track of the average for the future as I am sure @w2Bond will keep up with his stellar statistics, but I thought it would be interesting to see how the average looks so far, and here it is:

Thank you @Thunderfinger! I wanted to wait until more votes had come in especially from the States. I'm doing a separate average ranking post Spectre so the averages fluctuate for a time until we get more ranks. I have advance tickets for the 11th so will post my thoughts then.
