Goldeneye above FYEO is wrong on so many levels.
Wonder when DAD will climb upwards? Heh, Jason?
Imagine the irony!
I almost feel ridiculous, but I will defend SPECTRE to my death bed :))
In 4 hours I'll be seeing it the third time at the cinema hotel with my wife.
I think Thunderball really has it all: SPECTRE, the villain, the Ken Adam sets, the beautiful women, the DB5, John Barry music, exotic locations, fun gadgets, good humour, the femme fatale. It's both spectacular AND mysterious. Also Sean Connery is at his best here. While Goldfinger might be more iconic, TB is more archetypical.
I was always quite fond of Brosnan as Bond. Coming from a Dalton fan that says a lot. He was so self-assured and confident in the role. Nevertheless, the plots he got were nowhere near the ones Craig gets now.
I'm in media myself and therefore I rather enjoy Pryce's over-the-top performance and Carver's ridiculous scheme. While GE is Brosnan's best, his best performance might as well be in TND.
Dr. No is a good Bond film, but it's a hard one to rank. The characters are great and the atmosphere is brilliant, but the pace is a bit uneven I think. I never really enjoyed the part with the Dragon Tank either, but that's just nitpicking I guess.
As for Daniel Craig, I think he's an excellent actor, an excellent actor doesn't always make a great James Bond however. In my opinion, he lacks a bit of elegance, he's a bit too much of a muscleman.
It's good to see someone who can appreciate the Brosnan era. There is nothing overrated, if anything underrated.
By the way our Top 10 is made of the same movies except TB which I rank lower.
I have OP in it instead.
I have high hopes for it then :D...have to wait til Wednesday :(
What's your new ranking?
@Thunderfinger. You'll be disappointed to know that GE is 8th on the 2012-2015 MI6 rankings and 6th if you include CBN and AJB. And FYEO is 12th
On my list GE and FYEO are 6th and 7th. Next time FYEO may overtake GE. The score kills both of them....GE's is worse which is why they may swap places
I actually think the music is the one thing GE has that puts it above FYEO.
I quite like the GE overture, but more importantly, I like the integration of the main theme in FYEO. The piano part of the score especially when Bond gatecrashes the olympic jump is terrible, like a cat jumped on the piano. The other thing that puts GE above FYEO is Campbell's direction and...nostalgia
I liked how Conti knew when to keep it quiet, much like Newman in fact. The one thing that drags Serra down into Tamahori sewer territory is the crapfest of an end song.
This is my new and final ranking for this year after doing two and a half Bondathons!

:) Yes I thought someone would notice where I put FRWL. This list is an honest assessment of how much I enjoyed the films. I can say FRWL is a technically better made film than DAD, which is filled with silly and bad moments, but I just have fun watching the swordfight and hovercraft chase and Brosnan walking into the hotel in his pyjamas, etc. FRWL on the other hand I just find to be a bit...dry. I recently re-read all the novels too and I liked FRWL better on the page. There seem to be a lot of filler scenes added that don't contribute much. It feels to me like the vegetable of Bond films (a Broccoli, perhaps!), i.e. its the Bond film that's "good for you". I prefer the "dessert" Bonds I suppose.
If you love the classics and that's GF/FRWL can't be touched, I get it. If you like the grittier, moodier CR and SF, I'm cool with that. But I'll argue to the death that this isn't a Top 7 Bond film. Bond film. SP embodies Bond and the history's he's created.
My top 10 in no particular order:
Casino Royale, Goldfiner, SPECTRE, Skyfall, Goldeneye, TSWLM, FRWL, OHMSS, The Living Daylights and TWINE

I much different list than my first but much more by just shear enjoyment.
Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, IMHO. Just not as good as the other Craig Bond movies, obviously.
I feel the exact same way about DN!
