It does have a rather heavy almost suffocating feel about it.
You must have seen it at a theatre with a questionable digital projection system.

Nooooooooo. I saw it in Imax twice. I am talking about from Tangiers forward. The movie seems very weighed down after that. It kind of lumbers along. Newman's operatic soundtrack doesn't help.

===As for Bond's snobbery. I am a Connery purist so I certainly understand the sentiment, but I don't think Craig's Bond is completely lost in that respect.
Sure this angle may be understated with Craig's Bond, but I don't think its lost entirely.
I think its there, but maybe more implied than flaunted.
He certainly dresses real well, very expensively. He likes his expensive Aston Martins. He piped right up with the year and model number of Blofelds Rolls Royce.
    He wears the expensive watches.
What I liked most about his Bond persona in SP, was that he captured both the aura of danger that Bond projects as well as Bond's relaxed manner and of course minus the personal baggage that he has been saddled with to varying degrees in his three previous films.
Fleming's Bond was not without humour. In fact he was quite the smartass, especially in books like Goldfinger and the later stages of YOLT, but all the books are peppered with his quips.
Bond is relentless in the digs he tosses at both Oddjob and Auric in GF.

My favourite is " How's the agoraphobia Goldfinger?" as the two stroll down the wide open expanse of the golf course. GF the dullard, has no response to that.

I thought Craig caught Bond's relaxed humour, that we find in both Fleming and the Connery films, as well as from the other actors, but the others, Moore especically, couldn't deliver with quite the same authority.
It has to be in combo with the menace element as well.

The pace does slow down some at that point, but not that badly for ME.

Lemme just say that after Connery's first two & Dalton's two, I'm a lot more forgiving that no films will ever come as close.

@Birdleson, you and @gg are like diametrically opposed when it comes to SP.

And that's fine ...respect opinion of both. Emotions just seem high with SP. I think we all want Bond to be Bond for all of us to enjoy.

I'm in the middle of the road.. just going to wait until on BluRay.

I just don't want to see anyone giving up on Bond :(.

It's hard to fault someone as well intentioned as @Birdleson. He's entitled to his opinion no less than we all are to form our own. The great thing about Bond is how it profoundly reflects Western cultural development. Diversity of opinion only enhances the quality of the franchise. With the exception of the deliberate and forceful opinion, it's a nice experience to learn about what it is people like and dislike about the films. It would be difficult to image a site like MI6 existing if that wealth of thought did not exist.

Why insult someone over something so silly? I don't know. I'd be surprised to see someone put Casino Royale last (my favorite), but I wouldn't be mad at them for it or insult them. I just don't get it.

For some reason, I have a feeling like that in about ten years or so, people will start viewing Spectre like Die Another Day.

Every film in the franchise is bound to be someone's basement dweller. I'd like to think our discussions here are meaningful in some way to promote fluid opinions. Nothing is more unpleasant on here when there are static "conversations" that can only degenerate into derision. Even in disagreement, I like to be able to find some commonality or revelation that helps me appreciate a film I didn't previously enjoy.

    I don't think so.

Well, I meant in terms of generally accepted quality where DAD is usually last. And it's strange because I reckon Spectre is within the top half of Bond flicks.

We're too early to know that imho.

We'll have a better idea in about 6 months to a year where it sits. That position will hold unless there is a critical reassessment in time (which happened to OHMSS, & to a lesser extent QoS & LTK for the positive.........and DAD for the negative).

I must admit I quite liked the hotel switch in QOS. It makes me appreciate QOS more. During my recent rewatches I liked the movie more than the other Craig movies. The opera scene is near brilliant.

But, there is a difference between wearing expensive attire and knowing why you wear them. Hip hop stars wear expensive watches as well. An orange Lamborghini is expensive but it's as tasteless as you can get.

The thing is not wearing expensive stuff, but knowing how to wear them.

Yet I have SKYFALL and QUANTUM OF SOLACE in my Top Ten.

I just don't get that. Though I respect your choice. If you really have SP on 57th spot or lower, then this review would be applicable to your choice no :-)?

It's been underwhelming yes. The films have never looked or been acted better but they lack the fun factor of the old films. Even the usual bottom rankers (avtak, daf, dad) are fun. I don't like the retconning of Spectre, but it could've been forgiven if I was blown away by everything else.

When they said classic Bond for Spectre, I didn't expect them to borrow so many elements from past movies. The bits that are original are immensely enjoyable. Q/Bond scenes in skyfall/Spectre, Boardroom scene, SF PTS.

Plus everything in Spectre feels half-baked. The perfect example is the much hyped hypercar chase. Gadgets not working? It's funny, but come on give us something. The re-use of the score makes me want to cry - Newman's action cue is no "007 theme". On the other hand, the trailer music made me want to cry with joy.

Another easy to explain example is, finally they put the gunbarrel at the front, but with a lazy wipe-effect blood drop and could they not have opened it on the skull?

I've been considering bottom place for Spectre. QoS at least has a good score (less said about AWTD the better), and is pretty beautiful too, just poorly edited.

But despite my ranking, there's many isolated scenes I love in both SF and SP. I love Waltz's Blofeld, just wish they left Oberhauser and the scar out of it.

I love all James Bonds equally :)>- regardless of what I think of the films they're in.

Interesting. I might end up with this order, but for right now SP is just above QOS....

As mentioned elsewhere I have moved SP from standing only with the other re-boot/alt Bond films where it ranks #1, to inclusion with the original run of 20 films, as much of the time it does resemble a regular Bond film , but there is still that dark heavy Mendes tone dragging it down , as it lumbers along in parts, especially towards the end.

But in deference to Craig's energetic performance as Bond, I think it only fitting to include it with the regular Bond films too.
So we are making progress. This I think is a big step forward for the re-boot era. Bravo!

So for now I have slipped it in at #20 just ahead of DAD.
I can't in good conscience though move it ahead of any of the first 19 films.
I quite enjoy all of those films with very little reservation.

Well, just back from my fifth, and definitely final time to see Spectre in the cinema (I was intending to go and see 'Black Mass', but at last minute I decided to go with Bond one more time!). Still great, and I'm warming more to the final section than I did! It still ranks at no. 7 for me, after OHMSS,TLD,CR,LTK,GF, and FRWL!
