@bondjames - IN my book absolutely. Best of the best.

Here's that TB quote I mentioned:

"Young's Bond is no such thing. He's a dark cloud, sweeping over the tropical landscape, foretelling ruin.

There's an element of mechanism in Young's take, a cold, remorseless calculation in everything he does. Other people don't quite register with him, they're just not equally important. Allies get thumped. Love interests are used up and manipulated, 007 employing sex as a kind of bullying coercion. In Goldfinger Hamilton's Bond was having fun, tripping his enemies up and thwarting their plots. It was all a game to him. Young's version wants, needs, to win. He's a shark. Even his kiss-off lines are delivered with spite, a victor pouring hate on top of murder instead of the usual levity."

There's a bit more also that is interesting as well. Mash all that with this cinematic, grandiose epic and I think it's the pinnacle of "film Bond" - warts and all (editing problems, etc). Perfection is overrated.

To me the problem with TB isn't the editing but the film quality. I have the bluray and some of the location shots look washed out to me. Also the score is a little repetitive for my tastes. Still an epic film tho. Connery is the man. B-)

I think the cinematography is some of the series' best, and the underwater finale is stunning.

edit: @DaltonCraig007 Yeah, it's pure charisma, danger, and sexual magnetism.

Do people know that the elevator was the exact same one as in LTK (I read that somewhere)?

Yeah, I noticed that in the cinema and started mentioning it here but was ignored :(

In a sense, you have to admire how hard they tried to sneak in references from previous films. Even the finest details reflected that.

My ranking of most rewatchable Bond films:

    1. QOS Very short, full of action, the film starts straight away with a flat-out chase scene to put me in the mood.
    2. TND Flat-out action once Bond escapes the Carver party, killer soundtrack from Arnold and Brosnan's is so cool in this outing.
    3. LTK Bond out on revenge, slowly taking down the enemy force with his wits and Dalton's badassery is similar to Taken, John Wick, Commando (all very rewatchable films). Dalton at his most intense is a joy to see.
    4. GE I know the film by heart, every single character has great dialogue, Campbell's directing and pace is very energetic.
    5. CR Another very energetic job from Campbell, the PTS and Opening Credits put me in the mood straight away, and Craig delivers a masterful performance.
    6. OP The best of both worlds - highly energetic and fun first half that pops, and a very tense 2nd half with the bomb chase. Moore gives a splendid performance, and very exotic locals that is the perfect 2 hour vacation.
    7. TLD Barry goes out with a bang, while Dalton enters with a bang.
    8. TSWLM Bond with a capital B. Moore at his most relaxed and suave. Spectacular action and larger-than-life scope.
    9. FRWL Connery is so charismatic that you are glued to the screen. Almost 1 location fills the the entire runtime, so you are on vacation with Connery. Very tight script with the whole sequence on the Orient Express a highlight in the franchise.
    10. AVTAK Barry's score and the main title song are out-of-this-world. The pace is a lot brisker than it is described. Christopher Walken and Grace Jones are insanely entertaining.
    11. DAD Killer soundtrack from Arnold, Brosnan at his most self assured. Flat out action once Bond fights Mr Kil. Splendid 1st half.
    12. LALD Moore is so cool it hurts, electric soundtrack, the villains pop from the screen. Jane Seymour, what else?
    13. TMWTGG A 2 hour vacation with a sublime Roger Moore in Far-East Asia. Lee steals the show. Perhaps the oddest, most strange outing in the series.
    14. DN Connery is so confident and masculine I wonder if 'Sean Connery' is a sexual gender by himself. Honey Ryder. Exotic local and tighly written script.
    15. MR Bond as his most epic scale. Moore seems to enjoy himself so much that it is communicative.
    16. SP The longest film in the franchise. Craig at his more relaxed and old-school Bondian. The most 'grand-scale' film since GE.
    17. DAF Connery is having so much fun, that it becomes fun to watch. The characters pop, the dialogue is so quotable. Along with TMWTGG, a very odd and strange film.
    18. TB The sexiest display of women in cinematic history. 'Sean Connery' becomes the very definition of 'cool'. Highly exotic locals.
    19. SF Bardem and Dench light up the screen. Craig gives a powerhouse performance. Deakins' cinematography is off the charts.
    20. GF Connery gives a text-book performance on how to entertain the entire world.
    21. OHMSS The film's cinematography is insanely gorgeous. Barry gives a soundtrack rarely matched almost 50 years later.
    22. FYEO Moore gives a stellar performance as a veteran and gentlemanly spy. Highly thrilling and imaginative action sequences.
    23. YOLT The first half goes by at a bullet speed. The sets, the locations, the soundtrack are a sight to behold.
    24. TWINE Stunning soundtrack from Arnold. A more complex plot than usual.

Nice that you actually point at the positive issues of the films but I sugest the list does not relate very much to your personal favourite Bond film list, or?

Always enjoy your posts, even when they are pro Brosnan. Seems they are pro everything, wish I could be that positive all the time.

@GBF sadly not, as TMWTGG is my favorite Bond film.

@Thunderfinger It's a bit annoying sometimes, as I hate being disappointed after watching a film so I spend hours analyzing films before seeing them to be sure I'll have a good time and can post a positive review on mi6community.

I just can't not like TMWTGG. It's just pure, unadulterated fun. In fact, it was my Bond film of choice (along with THUNDERBALL) for a rather long and tiring coach journey to Normandie.
