Come on, it's corny and you know it.

I just assumed it was on a timer.

I have a cat clock that waves at you every so often. So I guess where I live is corny.
    :P

Perhaps I should clarify, as it seems to have alluded the entire forum. The winking fish is corny as the topper to Bonds revenge mission. If a shooting star crossed the sky, would that be norml too. Cause that happens in real life, you know.

Also, the definitive ranking of Roger Moore's Bonds:

    1. The Spy Who Loved Me (7)
    2. For Your Eyes Only (10)
    3. Octopussy (17)
    4. Live and Let Die (19)

I didn't assume anything. I didn't even think anything. People are overreacting about it. Claiming the wink somehow completely ruins everything that came before it... Yeah right... It is a non-issue that is on the screen for half a second for God's sake!

It gets more attention than the far more egregious bar fight!

Hey @IncompetentHenchman - Nice to see you back.

Best - Casino Royale, followed shortly by From Russia With Love.

    Worst - Die Another Day

Most overrated - Here, probably On Her Majesty's Secret Service or The Living Daylights, followed closely by Live And Let Die.

Most underrated - I'd say Octopussy but here that doesn't seem to be the case. Probably Tomorrow Never Dies, which warrants a bit more love.

Most uneven Bond film (overall) - Spectre

Most uneven Bond film (pacing) - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Most uneven Bond film (tonally) - Octopussy

Most uneven Bond film (acting-wise) - Licence to Kill

Funniest Bond film - Octopussy (not the Tarzan yell or anything, but more stuff like the "economy tour" line)

Least funny Bond film - Quantum of Solace

Looking back, my current ranking, finally including both Skyfall and Spectre, I see my opinion about some of these films have changed after re-watching some of them:

    1. Thunderball
    2. Casino Royale
    3. Dr. No
    4. From Russia With Love
    5. Goldfinger
    6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    7. Skyfall
    8. Spectre
    9. The Living Daylights
    10. Quantum of Solace
    11. Goldeneye
    12. License To Kill
    13. You Only Live Twice
    14. The Spy Who Loved Me
    15. For Your Eyes Only
    16. Live And Let Die
    17. Diamonds Are Forever
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. The World is Not Enough
    20. Octopussy
    21. The Man With The Golden Gun
    22. A View To A Kill
    23. Moonraker
    24. Die Another Day

Edit: Decided to rank TLD higher than QOS. I like both movies, but at the end of the day, QOS has more problems than TLD does.

Wow, TSWLM and QOS aside that is probably the most uncontroversial ranking of the Bond movies I've seen on this forum! Very good.

    Pretty sensible list.
  • I'm back after yet another long hiatus. Best place to start is here: first rankings taking Soectre into account. Divide them into categories as well

    1) The Spy Who Loved Me
    2) Octopussy
    3) From Russia With Love

    4) Live and Let Die
    5) On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    6) Licence to Kill
    7) Thunderball
    8) The Living Daylights

    9) Diamonds are Forever
    10) For Your Eyes Only
    11) Moonraker

    12) You Only Live Twice
    13) A View To A Kill
    14) Casino Royale
    15) GoldenEye

    16) Goldfinger
    17) Skyfall
    18) Dr No
    19) The Man With The Golden Gun

    20) The World is Not Enough
    21) Spectre
    22) Die Another Day
    23) Tomorrow Never Dies
    24) Quantum of Solace
  • I'm a Moore kid, so...

    1. The Spy Who Loved Me
    2. From Russia With Love
    3. Casino Royale
    4. Thunderball
    5. Goldfinger
    6. Live And Let Die
    7. The Man With The Golden Gun
    8. A View To A Kill
    9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    10. GoldenEye
    11. Moonraker
    12. Octopussy
    13. The Living Daylights
    14. You Only Live Twice
    15. Dr No
    16. Diamonds Are Forever
    17. For Your Eyes Only
    18. Spectre
    19. Skyfall
    20. Tomorrow Never Dies
    21. Die Another Day
    22. Quantum of Solace
    23. The World Is Not Enough
    24. Licence to Kill

My list is probably quite unorthodox, but that'd be because I haven't seen OHMSS, DN, QoS or TWINE more than once, so I might raise them if I saw them again.

An interesting list. Not quite as unorthodox as you may think. Sadly Moore does get a fair bit of criticism around here (not as much as Brosnan though). Your penchant for Moore probably explains your dislike for Dalton as well.

Unfortunately I can only agree with you about a few placements (CR, OHMSS), but my own tastes are divisive. You will assuredly find many like-minded people here.

And great to see a new face around here too, @stun_harvesting. Warmly welcome.
  • @IncompetentHenchman - Thanks. I grew up expecting Bond flicks not to be cinematic masterpieces, but to be an incredibly entertaining two hours. As a result, I don't think particularly highly of Bond flicks that try to be cinematic masterpieces - unless they actually are (ie. FRWL, CR, etc.) The last three on my list are far too drear for my tastes. Were I to rank these on the basis of how good they were as films in general, my list would be different. But I'm ranking them on the basis of how good they are as Bond films, and my criteria, I expect, would be quite different to a lot of the people on this forum.

Very nice to read your insight on the Bond canon. But I am honestly at a loss as to how you might find TWINE 'dreary'. TWINE is a lot of things but I would not put 'dreary' down as one of them - although some of the locations were a bit dull.
  • @IncompetentHenchman - TWINE is... complicated, just as the plot was. While it's not as dreary as LTK or QoS, it's obviously an attempt to be a darker and more realistic picture and it's done very poorly. Perhaps it's not so much that it's drear than it is just outright poor, in my opinion. The PTS gets you excited for the movie but the film never manages to top that. Brosnan's acting here is his worst in the franchise (everything is forced) and Renard is oh so disappointing.

Agree completely. I like TWINE a bit more than you do but yes Renard is just so poorly implemented and I don't appreciate the actor's perforance either.

@IncompetentHenchman - I think it's easy to sum up TWINE - wasted potential. It could've been so much more. I think what was particularly disappointing was to see Bond seeming so exhausted for the first time during the turn of the millennium and the approach of the 40th anniversary. I mean, the oil plot was basically ripped off the headlines of the time, and the only characters I appreciated in the film were Elektra and M. Everybody else had horrible scripts, hammy performances, or both. It was just such a far cry from the 70's Bonds in my opinion.

And of course that's what they should be and not some dreary depressing wanna-be melodrama.

Spectre is the most entertaining Bond, I'm so glad they have found back to form.
As you said CR is a masterpiece, but just because they had the right director.
  • Agreed.

'Daddy preferred you over me. I hate you little brother for stealing my father's love.'

That's not dreary melodrama in the slightest now is it?

Simple list-my favorites are mainly due to nostalgia watching the Bonds growing up and the excitement and repeated viewing factor they bring today. I rank the unofficial entries roughly alongside the Eon films. I discovered a few surprises when comprising this list.

    3. Dr. No
    4. From Russia With Love
    5. Thunderball
    6. The Living Daylights

    8. Casino Royale
    9. Octopussy/ Never Say Never Again
    10. Licence To Kill
    11. For Your Eyes Only
    12. Spectre
    13. A View To A Kill
    14. Live and Let Die
    15. Diamonds Are Forever
    16. SkyFall
    17. GoldenEye
    18. You Only Live Twice
    19. Moonraker
    20. The Man With The Golden Gun/CLIMAX: Casino Royale

Jimmy 'card sense' Bond better even than DAD is a stretch but better than QOS, TND, MR, SF and on a par with GE is downright deranged.
