TSWLM is generally regarded as Moore's best. Perhaps it is, more iconic moments I suppose but I tend to gravitate towards FYEO and OP these days.
  • Some people have a tendency to run against the norm in certain areas, and many find TSWLM overrated. Of course, it's up to their opinion, but I could debate such a topic - I personally find TSWLM to not lack of any of the gaping holes found in every other one of Moore's movies. Not quite perfect, but closer to it than any other Moore movie.

On a side note, I wouldn't mind having civilized one-on-one debates regarding films vs films or actors vs actors or anything of the sort, really.

Yes but I mean in a GF way. It is the best of the era but people insist that it is overrated.

    I think you misunderstand.

It is the island of LOST

    Electricity and media equipment galore.

But beware of the supernatural beings, dropping airplanes, wormholes and...hell really :))

Very good to get back to actual bond movie rankings (the objective of this thread). I mean, 'the six movies you'd bring to your island' is nice, but it's time to go back one step.

I am doing a 'Bondathon' at present (over the next month), watching every film in order. I'll alter the list if applicable once I finish.

    NSNA

While I never ranked it before I was thinking where I would put it.
Actually I find it about on the same level as my bottom three, TMWTGG, AVTAK or DAF.

Even if it probably comes last it's not really far away from the other movies.
What really "kills" it for me is the non-bondian stuff like the opening, the titles, no gun barrel, no other typical stuff.

But what saves it from being just a wanna-be Bond is the fabulous cast!

M and Q are just great with brilliant actors! And so is Blofeld, I even would call him my favourite.

And Fatima Blush! She would rank very high in a Bond villainess list!

The only weak link may be Kim Basinger. Her Domino is a bit dull, but then I also find the original Domino dull.

Brandauer is brilliant and he easily ranks among my favourite villains.

Overall the movie could have been so much better, but I guess there was a limited budget.

I'm due for a Bondathon soon. Probably sometime in the next month or so I'll start. Just need to decide on order.

I know you put a lot of effort into your rankings, @Birdleson. Great to see such passion for Bond.

By the way, I am starting to get that same feeling of Boredom when I watch TLD. I find both of Dalton's films aren't terribly well paced and that slight cheapness about the sets/photography doesn't help.

Agreed. There's something about the film that wastes away as it progresses, and it has something to do with boredom. There's just not that electric sense of enjoyment that you get in most of the other Bonds, which might have something to do with the dourness of Dalton's Bond as well as the cinematography.

@Birdleson - You reckon SP is ever going to move up in your rankings?

I agree with @Birdleson in putting DAD and TND close to each other - Lately I've been enjoying them in a double feature that I've watched quite a few times. Flat out action films with a badass Brosnan and great soundtracks from Arnold.

@Birdleson I am just sad on such a low ranking for TWINE from you. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but I put TWINE/DAD/TND in the same batch. GE is my favorite Brosnan but I really enjoy his next 3 films. The plots are ridiculous, yes, but Brosnan is my childhood Bond, and I love these Arnold soundtracks (I've had a re-assessment of him after the awful SP soundtrack by Newman).

I'm not going to discuss SP, SF or any Bond from the last two eras anymore in any thread but just for the record I want to state once more that it is entirely possible SPECTRE will one day fall behind GE, TLD and OHMSS in my ranking. If even lower I can't imagine, at the moment at least.

I know there are a lot of Bondathons going on here, but do any of you actually give some or all of the Bond movies a rest. If so when you return to them do you find it alters you ranking of them?

I try. Can't do it. These damned films and books, and this Website, are like heroin is to junkies to me.
We need to throw out all our Bond books, VHS', CED's, DVD's & Blu Rays, all our replica & airsoft PPK's, turn in any REAL PPK's to the local law enforcement, and swear off movies involving principal Bond actors.
    Cold turkey, man.
Then we can be miserable, but be able to SAY we're free.

Best title sequence ever is AVTAK in every way.

DN: nice dots, so sixties, so classic
OHMSS: second best in the series
LALD: fits the music and the voodoo stuff but never cared for it much
TLD: A middle of the road effort, the music makes it better
GE: Top 5 definitely, I say 4th after AVTAK OHMSS SP.
CR: A bit too glossy still Top 10 easily.

It guess it may have been a difficult time for you from 1979 to 2006 as Bond fan if I look at that ranking with maybe only LTK and GE being a ray of hope?
Or have the "newer" movies from the 80s and 90s fallen in your rankings over time?
Also I understand now SP being so low.

At least your top six, minor adjustment aside, hasn't changed. Thought, like @DaltonCraig007, it bums me out to see TWINE so low... sniff....

    Thanks @Birdleson!

Let's try to see if I can make a top 10, after watching quite a few outing lately:

    1. TMWTGG
    2. OP
    3. TSWLM
    4. LTK
    5. GE
    6. TLD
    7. TND
    8. QOS
    9. CR
    10. AVTAK
    11. FYEO
    12. FRWL
    13. TWINE
    14. TB
    15. GF
    16. DN
    17. LALD
    18. OHMSS
    19. DAD
    20. MR
    21. DAF
    22. SP
    23. SF
    24. YOLT

I'm sure this will make a few members' blood boil, but I rather enjoy the oddball entry more than the regular favorites. I also rule out the longer outings from here, as a maximum of 2 hours is perfect for a double feature with another film. If it weren't for that than OHMSS and CR, SF and SP would be much higher. And altough Connery's outings are low, his performances as Bond would be in my top 10.

Yeah, feels about right now. DAD just in #10, because it's the one I've been totally addicted lately, along TND. What a double feature that is, full of action from a badass Brosnan with Arnold shoving the Bond theme in the soundtrack as much as he can.

Reminder that I rank these by personal appreciation and my own rewatchability factor, not by cinematic quality, otherwise the first 4 Connery outings and OHMSS would make my top 5.
