A few years ago several of the Bond girls seriously grated me - Tiffany Case, Anya Amasova, Holly Goodhead, Bibi Dahl, Stacey Sutton, Lupe, Paris Carver, Christmas Jones and Jinx. But lately I seem to be a lot more forgiving, and I don't mind any of them anymore. If anything I just look at their silhouettes while they talk and it all goes perfectly well.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds her delivery of that particular line excruciating

It's great how the little things that stand out to us - stuff you'd never expect anyone else to pick up on - are easily noticed on these forums. Glad I'm not the only one, as well!

She sounds like an American high school girl acting tough.

If there's one thing that make my blood boil about Jinx it's her scared puppy-eyed look while the doctor is explaining the Gene therapy to her.

Her constant head tilting during THAT flirting scene between her and Bond REALLY irritates me.

Also, there's the line "here for the penguins this time, or for the view agaaain" (*tilts head sharply)
    >:P

I like Brosnan's pissed off look at her "thrust" delivery. Can't say I blame him :p
  • Jinx is the worst Bond girl by a mile. And I like that movie.

I agree but she just makes me indifferent - apart that she's a major hottie.

This - for me, at least - is impossible to deny. She has some awful scenes and even worse dialogue, but damn, if my eyes aren't glued to the screen when she walks out of the ocean in Cuba for the first time.

Yeah I love the funny James Bond films like DAF, TMWTGG, AVTAK, DAD etc.

I don't like the overly serious ones like QoS, LTK, FYEO.

  • Yeah shes' stunning.

I don't understand why Brosnan was nominated for a Razzie for 'worst screen couple' for TWINE. Whatever you can say about the very-attractive-but-very-bad actresses they put in his films, Brosnan always had great chemistry with them (even if it's only one-sided and the chemistry comes all from good ol' Pierce). Craig may be the better actor but the thought of him with Halle Berry, Michelle Yeoh or Denise Richards makes me nauseous.

I didn't know about the Razzie @DaltonCraig007, although I fully concur with their assessment in relation to that film. Awful. There is a legendary photo I used to post here previously that would have explained why they decided to give him the nom for that film, but unfortunately we are prevented from doing this any more, as it is likely EON copyright..

PS: I agree that Berry was a complete hottie in DAD. She was at her best around that time, including her famous full frontal with Jackman in the previous year's Swordfish. Which reminds me, I'm going to have to watch that again, for the film of course....

One should keep in mind. There had only been very few established actresses who played the Bond girls until recently. I rarely judge a Bond film by its Bond girls.

    Defending Diamonds Are Forever

It has always been a dirty pleasure for me so I thought I'd bring up some of the neglected positives of Connery's swansong.

Firstly, the plot. I enjoy following the diamonds as they change hands. It reminds me a bit of the opening bank heist of 'The Dark Knight', a group of criminal come together to do a job, only once they are no longer needed each one is killed. It's simple and effective, and told in a very economical fashion.

Secondly, I think the characters are quite underrated. Tiffany Case isn't just strong but developed, adapting to survive in her deadly profession. She can be flirtatious when she needs to be to get what she wants, but she also holds her own.
Won't and Kidd are both underrated henchmen. They are a genuinely memorable duo that I think gets forgotten about.
Even small characters like Mrs Whistler, Morton Slumber and Willard Whyte bring a certain personality to the film.

I also love the setting and how it is used. Las Vegas is the perfect, backdrop to the smuggling operation and we really get to see it! We go through car chases in the streets, scale buildings at nigthfall, hit the casinos. I Love it! It's one of the few Bond film's where I actually get a sense of being there and hanging out with Bond.

The humour- I know many see it as over cheesy, but I think the humour really fits the Vegas setting. There are some absolute crackers in DAF, my favourites being 'I didn't know there was a pool down there', 'provided the collars and cuffs match', 'named after you father perhaps'. I think people quite often remember laughing AT the film, so they forget that there is genuinely funny material in the mix. I you want a laugh, DAF is a safe bet.

Finally, I love when Bond finds Whyte and the true intention of the diamonds is revealed in the satellite. It's corny, maybe, but it works. Whyte rings his guys just as the satellite becomes operational, all hell breaks loose, Barry excellent score kicks in, amazing!

If it weren't for the random oil rig finale that comes out of nowhere, it'd be a top 10 Bond film in my eyes. Sadly as it is it will forever be a dirty pleasure.

Just watching DAD and I had to pause it to say, DUDES! The shot of Bond as he walks into Havana is just the same as the shot in the SP PTS. He walks close to the camera & looks just past it! I knew there was something warmly familiar about the SP close-up! So cool.

Other than the bland title track, I don't really have any complaints. This is the best that the Connery era gets.

Random Bond Viewing 2016 (in order of viewing):
    January:
    1. You Only Live Twice
    2. For Your Eyes Only
    3. Tomorrow Never Dies
    4. The Living Daylights
    February:
    5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    6. From Russia With Love
  • Damn I dig the title track.

I really like the instrumental version. Romantic but cool at the same time. Munro's version is a little slower I think.
  • It's slow but feels romantic and Bond to me. Works well with the boat ride through Venice.

    Closest we had to Sinatra.

I like the instrumental version, it's just Monro's voice, it's.... well, it's a bit weak. Sinatra had a much better voice, how he never got to sing a Bond song is beyond me. :-??

Sinatra could have been Bond. As good an actor as a singer.

O'l blue eyes was 5'7", if Craig is a short arse at 5'10", what would that make Frank, a munchkin? ;) I also would have liked to have seen Sinatra in a Bond film. I once made up a cast list for an alternate history DAF, wherein I cast Frank as Shady Tree, the lead villain.

Didn't he do something like this in the 60's? Not Bond, but some kind of PI role. I remember seeing it some years ago (watched it for Raquel Welch, who was also in it briefly - what a babe in her day!)

He made two films as Tony Rome, a PI. The first film, Tony Rome (1967) co-starred Jill St. John, and the second, Lady In Cement (1968), co-starred Raquel Welch.

Lady In Cement. Watched as a kid for... the intrigue... there was also a murder mystery in it somewhere.
