Yeah, I was just watching the SPECTRE trailer from July and I realised how it was selling action rather than intrigue. If you think about it SPECTRE is the story of a spy who uncovers a secret evil organisation trying to achieve world domination. You'd think that would involve a lot more intrigue and suspense.
That is also why I like OP and TLD. Although they have a lot of action, the base of the story is the same kind of cold war suspense that came from the books.
Right after FRWL with GF
Diamonds Are Forever
Other than a few tracks, DAF doesn't have much to tempt me back.
Random Bond Viewing 2016 (in order of viewing):
January:
1. You Only Live Twice
2. For Your Eyes Only
3. Tomorrow Never Dies
4. The Living Daylights
February:
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
6. From Russia With Love
7. Spectre
8. Octopussy
9. Diamonds Are Forever
Well put.
Shame that DAF is still under-appreciated though. I do understand some complaints (much of its budget went to Connery, and it shows).
My god, Sean Connery is just out of this world. He' is very definition of cool, deadly, masculine. He moves like a panther and doesn't let anything get under his skin.
I thought 2015 would be the year of Star Wars for me, but SPECTRE ruled AND rules.
I feel you man, I feel you.
It's barely 48 since I watched Spectre and I already show signs of deprivation, damn it.
I swear to you, the last time that happened was with GoldenEye and to a lesser degree with Casino Royale.
Look matey, we are addicts, we need help :))
But seriously, Spectre has a sky high re-watchability value.
:))
playing on the tablet, as I mess about on the computer. :)
Yes, isn't second screening a fabulous thing, although when watching certain things like Bond for instance I don't do it.
In fact, I'm feeling compelled to watch it again soon. Perhaps this week.
Dr No ( "Are you looking for shells?" "No. I'm just looking" )
You Only Live Twice ( "He wouldn't touch that horrible woman, would you?" "Heaven forbid")
Octopussy ("Moneypenny, you become more beautiful every day" "I'm over here" "But of course you are")
The World Is Not Enough ( "I've got to get it back, or someone's gonna have my ass" "First things first")
Moonraker ("Can you think of a reason why we can't go for a drink after?" "Not immediately, but I'm sure I shall")
For Your Eyes Only ( "He thinks I'm still a virgin" " Yes well, get your clothes on..and I'll buy you an ice-cream")
The Living Daylights ("We're free" "Kara, we're in a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan" "Well, at least we're together")
Goldfinger ("My name is Pussy Galore" "I must be dreaming")
Licence To Kill ( "Felix is still in the study and we've got to cut the cake" "I'll do anything for a woman with a knife")
Live And Let Die ("Is there time for lesson number 3?" "Absolsutely darling, there's no sense going off half cocked")
The Man With The Golden Gun ("I approve" "You do?" " Oh not the wine; the frock! Tight in all the right places and not too many buttons" )
Spectre ("You shouldn't stare like that" "Well, you shouldn't look like that")
I like Conti's music though, haha.
A very easy watch. One of the highest re-watchability values of the series.
Hard to believe I have it at No 24, but it can't be helped.
The many fake explosions are just awful and distracting and make DAD's CGI look like a gift from Heaven.
The depiction of Blofeld is short of Austin Power's level.
Connery looks awful all the way.
The "cinematography" is arghhh.....
But:
It may well feature the best score of the series.
It definitely is the best Bond movie when it comes to dialogue. Priceless from start to finish.
Practically every word spoken is quotable.
Tiffany Case, respectively Jill St. John is HOT HOT HOT HOT
Mr. Wint & Mr. Kidd steal the show.
My wife returned home tonight ( coffee with " the girls") to find me in the kitchen.
I'm chating to MI6 on one tablet watching Spectre on the other. On hearing a
bit of dialogue she says " You're not watching THAT again !" :))
My wife has seen Skyfall circa 20 times, CR more times that I can count and Spectre 3 times already on Blu-ray, in the iTunes library respectively.
So if my wife would "catch" me watching Spectre, she would be all eyes on the screen totally ignoring me :))
Bond over and over.
Oh how I envy you...
...where to take the time, where to take the time...
but at least I will have time tonight to watch TLD, 3rd movie in my newly started Bondathon :)
Oh how I love that movie.
It's almost un-thinkable that it is only my No 4 movie now. But what to do?
Can I put it over OHMSS and GE (and SP)? Somehow I can't because all of them are so perfect.
GE-OHMSS-TLD the holy triumvirate
SP will have to get older before it is certain that it will stay on top.
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS my favourites:
No 1 score of the franchise
No 1 Bond actor
No 1 director
Enjoy! :)
How can one not? :))
Dalton is excellent in the film, very assured & lethal. Moreover, he looks the part. His best scenes imho are with Saunders and with Pushkin. I noticed for the first time how different his performance is here from LTK. He's more refined in this one, and more Bond-like (at least as far as I understand Bond). He's uncaged in LTK, and while I prefer that unbridled performance from him as an actor, I can appreciate why it's not for everyone.
Barry's score is superb as always, but I now understand criticisms I've heard in some quarters about the repetitive incorporation of "Where Has Everybody Gone" which can be distracting at times.
Caroline Bliss was notably awful as MP. Nice to look at but boy is she uncharismatic on screen.
Maryam D'abo is not my favourite Bond girl by a long shot. A bit whiny and needy, but she was not as annoying as on previous views.
The cinematography is a bit lacking. I’ve always felt this about Glen’s work, apart from FYEO. He frames the shots too close in my view. Doesn’t give enough perspective or grand scale. Think the opposite of what Hoyte did with SP.
I enjoyed the Afghanistan bit this time around. It dragged on as always, but not as annoyingly as it normally is for me.
Solid film. Stays where it is in my ranking. At 13.
Yes, quite true. FYEO is the exception for me as well. That film is full of great shots.
