Spectre , the car and aerplane chase are the best things about the film.
I had to forward the start because i can't stand the yellow filter used in the PTS.

I also enjoyed a Christmassy OHMSS. What I noticed this time, having recently rewatched Goldeneye, was the callback in GE to the "What would I do without you, Moneypenny?" line.

Watched Dr No again this afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I was reminded of how great Wiseman was. That dinner table scene is now officially my favourite scene in the film.

I think we all have a Bond film that we have a special place for, even though we know it isn't perfect, this is one. Once a top 5 Bond film, now it's slipped down my list a few spots, around 10th, give or take a few. Connery lacks that edge (though to be fair, that had been the case starting with GF) he had early on. The score is a serious contender for best score of the series, the title track is soooo soothing to listen to.

I agree with you on the title track and score for YOLT too. Sublime.

It s one of the best. Connery and Wiseman, the set, the costumes, the lighting.

It's not as polished as the films that followed (I noticed there aren't any of the grand establishing shots that we would get used to seeing) but the rough yet exotic tone is perfectly set.

I still feel a bit indifferent to Honey though. Beautiful to look at but not much more than a damsel in distress in the end.

You know, if I wasn't already married to Jennifer Love Hewitt, I would travel back to 1965 in my TARDIS and marry Claudine Auger. She's in my top 5 Bond girls, no doubt about that.
It never ocurred to me before, but when Bond is talking to Volpe, about what they did, why does he say that it was "for King and country"? In 1965, it should be Queen, as it had been since 1953. :-?
While there is a little too much underwater stuff throught most of the film, that last battle is still impressive. It's high time the 007 theme was brought back.
One last thing, I should have added this yesterday, when I watched YOLT, but I wanted to wait until I had watched TB to be sure. Ok, so TB features the new gunbarrel, with Connery and in colour, but the YOLT gunbarrel is in b/w.

I guess the reason I hadn't picked that up before, is because I haven't watched TB and YOLT so close before.

@MajorDSmythe I always thought they used a b/w gunbarrel in YOLT because it goes better with the rather "colourless" space scene that opens the film.

In AVTAK they speed up the Bond theme during the gunbarrel, as compared to OP, to fit the sound of the flying helicopter.

I'm on holiday in the alps in a log cabin at a mountain lake.
I and my brothers-in-arms watched not one, not two, not three, four or five but SIX Bond films during the Christmas days.

OHMSS - GE - LALD - DN - TLD - CR (in that order)

As our unit leader chose the films, it might be coincidence it was the first Bond film of each actor.

In any case a good choice. 6 marvelous films that showcase perfectly why James Bond the franchise has survived without much problems for over 50 years.

There is a reason why it is often claimed the first of each actor is his best. Probably true for all of them except Roger Moore.

I have never seen those 6 films in a row. It was quite a ride! Highly recommended.

    From Russia With Love
Now we're talking. if I absolutely have to watch a Connery era film, it's got to be FRWL. GF might have all of the iconic moments, but this one is better in every way if you ask me. It's nice to see Bond smile during the Q scene, he looked bored during the GF one, and Bond drips with animosity in TB, really, Bond acts like a total pr*ck to Q in TB.

GF Still my favourite Bond film. Connery is just so cool in this. Plays the part beautifully. Arrogant, smug but also rattled by the fight with Oddjob and attempting to defuse the bomb.

SF I actually prefer this now to SP. Apart from the silly capture and escape by Silva this is just a top notch Bond film. Love the climax at Skyfall and I think it works there being no massive set pieces in the film.

    Dr No
I always forget how quaint Dr No feels compared to the rest of the cannon. Though despite that quaintness, it's not hard to pick out the scenes that defined an icon (Bond's introduction at the casino, Bond killing Dent and Honey emerging from the sea).

    Watched SF on christmas eve.

I will never like this film and its extremely overrated despite the fine cinematography and high production values.Craig doesnt cut it as Bond for me and much of the film is really boring.

I really like Fiennes as M though and whether Craig stays or leaves i hope they keep him.

My feelings on the Craig era on the whole, I have grown to like the MI6 team of Fiennes (M), Harris (Miss Moneypenny) and Q (Wishaw). Whatever the future holds with the next few films, I hope the 3 of them are kept on.

"Quaint" was the same word I thought of @Major when watching Dr No the other day. "Prototype" was another.
