It has Jill Saint John in some favorable attire and Wint and Kidd on a fun liner ending and some nice shots of Amsterdam, but that's about it for me, oh and the Bambi and Thumper battle is sometimes worth a watch

Yeah I've always been a sucker for that fight at Whyte's summer house with Bambi and Thumper. It's pure cheese and camp, but nonetheless somehow very entertaining watching Connery get slapped and thrown around by two women!

That's yet another strike against DAF for me. The "fight" is just plain annoying, and horribly choreographed if there was any of it at all. I find it utterly stupid that Bond can handle Grant and win in a brawl but he can't win in a "fight" with two skinny women. 8-| But after seeing Blofeld in drag I stop asking questions and stop the film.

Connery's fight with Donald Grant took place in the timeline of 1963 when Connery was lean and mean and able, he was capable of a ruckus with heavyweights or difficult opponents, but did need the contents of the trick case in able to emerge as victor though

Move on almost a decade to Diamonds are Forever, and Connery seems bloated, out of shape and run down and it's obvious he's a shadow of his former greatness and subsequently it's little surprise he may get an ass kicking off two trained and athletic women, there's no shame in that Mr Connery, I sometimes wish that was me in that sequence, I might rather have enjoyed it maybe, anyway Connery deserved a beating for that shocking pink tie at least :-L

It wasn't because of the case that he won. Grant was a cowardly idiot who instead of competing with Bond mano a mano, he held Bond at gunpoint. Bond simply used to case to even the odds, where he then used his skill to kill Grant, fair and square.

    On Her Majesty's Secret Service

I've had a love/hate with OHMSS for as long as I can remember, it's bounced around my ranking like a spacehopper. And even in spite of what i've said in the past, I actually rather enjoyed it this thime. It still has it's shar of imperfections (the editing, Savalas' Blofeld being too theatrical to be menacing) but overall I did enjoy it this viewing. Dalton got his style down with one film, Lazenby doesn't quite manage this, I still think he comes off as a sort of... sub-Connery, but with better editing and another 2 - 3 films, I think he might have made an interesting more physical Bond. And I still love the DBS, that car deserved more screentime.

    Live And Let Die

Jane Seymour is a sight to savour. I can't really come up any anything else good to say, LALD just doesn't do it for me as a Bond film. As as a Moore Bond, it's not his best most ok film.

I did think that I might have spied some copies of The Ipcress File on a book stand that Bond walks past, but a look on google turns up no covers that match what I though I saw.

    On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Prior to this viewing, I had OHMSS in #22, dead last. As of now, I have been inclined to move it up a little bit, not a huge jump, but a jump nonetheless. I was very impressed with a great majority of the action scenes and I didn't feel the dragging of the middle section as much as I normally do. Now granted, I did watch it over two days due to time constraints, but still, I found the pacing to be a tad better, though it's still slow as molasses in many places. Lazenby is still my least favorite 007, but he did strike me differently this time. I was very impressed by his fight sequences and even some of his scenes with Tracy and Blofeld, like in the hotel room for the former and the interrogation after being caught for the latter. He has many rough scenes and face-palming lines, but I at least didn't feel compelled to throw the remote at him like usual. The soundtrack by Barry is mildly decent; there are some good tracks like the title song and the variants of it that play throughout the movie, and the track where Bond breaks into Gumbold's safe is pretty good. As for "Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown" and "We Have All the Time in the World", I cannot stand these two or the instrumental stuff Barry does with them. Ugh, they make me want to blow my own brains out! Like I said with the action previously, I was very impressed with it and hold it as OHMSS's best attribute. The locations I found to be much better; I really enjoyed the Portugal and Switzerland locations. They really impressed me this time around, and I can say that those are OHMSS's second best attribute. So when all things are considered, OHMSS is no longer my least favorite, and I'll probably set it around #18 or #17 for now.

Do my eyes deceive me? I never thought I'd read such positive things about OHMSS from you, Major! @-)

Not that I mind. I rank OHMSS almost as highly as TLD.

    Dr. No

I was very impressed once again with Dr. No; sometimes I find it to be a slight bore and not popping enough, but this time I had no complaints. I've gone back to my original DN roots from when I loved it the first time I saw it. Sean Connery destroys the screen in a slam-bang performance, Joseph Wiseman, Anthony Dawson, and Zena Marshall provide us with excellent villains in Dr. No, Professor Dent, and Miss Taro. The Jamaican locations are really stunning, and I love Dr. No's Crab Key base. There are legendary scenes such as Connery's first "Bond...James Bond", the murder of Professor Dent, Honey's walk from the ocean, and the duel with Dr. No, and then there are less legendary scenes which I still enjoy quite a bit, like the airport stuff with Mr. Jones, Pussfeller's club with the Photographer, Felix, and Quarrel, and others. The action was still weak and unimpressive, with the majority of the fights being extremely brief and lacking. The soundtrack is horrendously terrible and wuite annoying throughout. Still, all things considered, I really like Dr. No. What a terrific way to begin the series!

    GoldenEye

Me and my girlfriend have been watching Game of Thrones lately (catching up) and she mentioned how cool Sean Bean was and naturally I replied 'he was in a Bond movie you know' and she was like 'WHAT'

So we sat down and watched it-- my favorite Bond movie! \:D/

Pierce was at his coolest in this one. There were so many great moments that you just don't see anymore, like the tense moment when Bond is counting the clicks on the pen in Boris' hand- when he swiftly knocked out that guy in the sauna while fighting Xenia (where the hell did he even come from??), and at the end we had the best hand-to-hand since Connery vs Shaw! And that's just to name a few!

I will only say this. Pierce should have had a deeper damn voice. Swear to god, there were a few lines where sounded like a little kid! 'Vodka Martini.' 'The names Bond. James Bond'-- the second 'Bond' almost a whisper!

And he should have also been Timothy Dalton ;)

@Master_Dahark: Nice to see GoldenEye as your favorite! It is undeniably mine as well!

As for me, my last Bond viewing was Live and Let Die
I've always had a soft spot for Roger's first; there's just something majestic and glorious about it that keeps it in the Top Ten and even Top 5 often times for me. You've got the incredible soundtrack by Martin, a dead-on performance debut from Roger, an amazing lot of epic villains, varied and exotic locations from New York to New Orleans to the Caribbean, and very legendary scenes, like the boat chase on the bayou. My favorite moments, to name a few, are when Bond threatens to kill Rosie ("make your choice"), the fight with Tee Hee on the train, M and Moneypenny barging into Bond's house early in the morning, the parts of the boat chase where the actual chase is happening, Dambala dancing around Solitaire with the snake, and when Whisper pretends to be a hotel waiter. I could definitely name more, but these are the cream of the crop. LALD is one of Roger's top 3 outings for sure!

    The Spy Who Loved Me

Not my idea of what a Bond film should be, but I can appreciate that with TSWLM, Moore finally nails his colours to the mast as to his Bond style. To give him credit, for someone of 50, Moore still looks young-ish, but I wish they wouldn't make him fight, he moves like the Tin Man from the Wizard Of Oz. 3rd Moore film in, and i've allready had enough of that idiotic expression Moore pulls everytime he's about to say something that's supposed to be funny. Still, on the upside, at leat they didn't bring back JW Pepper. Never before have I wanted to see a non villainous character die so quickly upon entering the film as JW Pepper.

The Spy who Loved me. I really enjoyed this one. Jaws didn't annoy me so much the second time around though the idea of someone killing someone by biting them is laughable. The idea looks as silly as it sounds.

Barbara Bach gets kudos for being such a badass Bond girl. She really held her own and acted like a true government agent--well, not counting her falling for Bond's charms so quickly. That was the only downside to her character. I might be able to understand it better if she wasn't mourning her fallen lover.

Stronberg was a good villian though it's a shame they went for the "villian wants to destroy all of civilization" angle. It's a bit on the loony side but that's the point.

Also let me go on record saying that I detested the opening theme song. Nobody does it better is a great song but it has nothing to do with the movie! If the title of the movie was Nobody does it better, I'd be estatic but it's not. I really hate when the songs don't match the title.

    Moonraker

It starts of okay with the freefall* (though even at this point, the stuntman was getting equal screentime), but the film soon slams into the ground (see what I did there) with Jaws flapping his arms, to find a new level of stupidity. It doesn't stop there, no, as the film soon finds a trapdoor with new sub levels dumb to explore. I should have just watched TSWLM again.

I've allready had about all I can take of Moore's humour lines, and i've still got 3 more to get through.

    * But as usual with the Moore films, and chance of a genuinely good moment, is crippled by the usual attempt of chasing a cheap, unfunny, joke. See also the barrel roll in TMWTGG, if you can stand it.

The last Bond film I watched was the PTS of QoS. I was heading to bed and I heard the initial chase scene on TV out in the living room, so I ran out to watch it. Even those that don't care for QoS, you have to admit: the kill Bond delivers on the two men in the Alfa Romeo is really cool, just watching the car fly over the ledge into the rocky terrain below.

So Moonraker had the free fall? When I first saw that, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever. I thought it was totally implausible and figured it was one of those stunts they performed with wires. I was shocked when I learned that that was an actual stunt man jumping out of an airplane.

Yeah I agree, I love how he lets the big truck pass between them so he can buy time to grab the machine gun!

@00Beast, thank you! And I'm sure it's very mundane to some people, but what really made me itch to see the film again in theaters was the Bond/Slate fight scene. It was just so vicious, quick, and addictive, I couldn't get enough of it.

I know! I love those fights that are simply irresistable. Others like it are those against Red Grant, Emilio Largo, Che Che, Peter Franks, the Beirut nightclub thugs, Max Zorin, Alec Trevelyan, and Stephen Obanno, to name some of the best!

@00Beast, it sure isn't. What is your favorite? Mine, obviously, is Alec and Bond - I surmise it might be yours, as well?

And as for a current film, I watched the first twenty or thirty minutes of CR about an hour ago - until the girlfriend opted to watch television. I hopped on the computer to watch the new season of Californication. Win/win.

You know what, I never thought I'd say this but I agree :p

There are times when he sounds really soft. A good example is when he says "banco" just before he sits down in the casino. Slightly effiminate. Nonetheless I do like some of his lines:

"Trick is to quit while you're still ahead"
"That's one trick I've never learned"

    SMOOTH!!

Luckily his voice doesnt sound quite so soft in his subsequent films.

Once again I watched the super mega masterpiece TMWTGG. Wow, it's perfect beyond belief.

And yes, Brosnan's voice is sometimes too nasal and high-pitched.
