So bored of everyone bashing SF. I found the TB reevaluation more interesting

I'm bored of everyone bashing SP, making it look like it's the worst film ever made.

Yeah it's not even Craig's worst.

It's my least favourite Craig film, but it's not the worst Bond film.

I think we'd all agree SF isn't the worst and most will agree not the best. Vastly overrated seems to be more fitting description.

The thing that everyone has to appreciate is that there are some Bond fans who do think it is the best (or top three) so there must be something there to attract certain fans and it deserves credit for that. TSWLM is not my number one but I can completely see why it is for some fans. If any Bond movie has the content to put it at number one for a fraction of fandom, it derserves resepct. Expecially when comnpared to some of the movies where, surely, nobody has it at number 1?

I don't know that this has reached a level of disrespect. The thread title asks a question and we've debated it a lot and it seems more of us don't hold SF as high as its reputation may have it and list our reasons why.

TSWLM also has a similar thread. I am not huge on either film and I give reasons and opinions but not at the level that says "This movie sucks" and leave it at that as so many posters general forums do. Several of us are discussing TB above and I am a huge fan but don't feel anyone who doesn't like it as much as me has left me angry or disrespected. I like having a spirited discussion, which is why I come here. Otherwise, why join a forum if all we want to do is praise, praise, praise?

In the end, it’s just an opinion. And that’s personal.
When I first saw Skyfall, I really enjoyed it and had a blast watching it. It immediately and comfortably was inside the Top Ten.
As the years have gone on, it started to climb my rankings. I started to ignore the audacity of the plot holes because everything else so strongly connected to me (from Deakins and Mendes work, the costumes, the score, the actors...), and I just love the final showdown. I like the idea of backing the hero into a corner (you know what they say about cornered rats), to see how he gets out of it.
The past two years I find myself wanting to obsessively watch it, and after I saw it in concert in February, I think it may be a tie with my third place CR (behind my number one (OHMSS) and my number two (FRWL)).
That’s just me. That’s just my opinion.
I logically understand that it may not be the “best” film of the series (whatever “best” means), but I know it always gives me a thrill and I find myself excited every time I watch it. When that emotional connection happens, I find it doesn’t dampen with time, but it actually grows. And no logic can change that (and that’s why if someone thought DAD (a film I don’t like at all), was the bees-knees I can understand why they must feel that way. I won’t agree with them, but I understand them).

@peter "When that emotional connection happens, "

Spot on, I seem to like OHMSS more and more as the years pass. The same with other non-Bond movies. Once that connection is made - it's movie magic.

No, SF is not the best Bond film. I'd say it's OHMSS; it's the only one that transports me, every single time.

Agreed. It isn’t even top 10 material. The number one is FRWL.

For some of you it isn't but for me and others it is top 5.

Bond fans are a varied bunch, I barely have GF in my top 10 strange that.

When a Bond film is as highly acclaimed as GF or SF, there's naturally going to be a group of fans who are not as enamored that want to change the narrative that those films are not THAT good.

It is one of the top films, it's just not your cuppa. Deal with it.

Not to mention the fact that Skyfall has managed to appeal to people who previously had no interest in Bond and many of whom are now fans of the series. Bond fans shouldn´t complain about that, they should be thankful.

Absolutely. I know a few people who only became interested in Bond because they were swept up in the Skyfall hype. It's hard to discount that level of impact, even if the film is not to taste.

Skyfall and Rambo:Last Blood have very similar endings.

    I enjoyed Rambo:Last Blood more.

Nope. This is a forum for opinions. Albeit, I do accept that SF is the most financially successful film. I also really like it. But in terms of my personal ranking it is nowhere near top. So in answer to the thread question.....’no’.

Both GF and SF are in my top ten, but I can see why they wouldn’t be for others. Particularly SF. I really love it, but it could never stand shoulder to shoulder with GF, or CR, TB, FRWL DN and OHMSS, all top shelf, gold standard Bond films.

IMO GF is a guaranteed top 10. Probably top 5 for most.

It a safe bet to say most fans would have GF and FRWL ranked in their top 5, along with OHMSS too.

Yup I would agree on that assessment.

If those 3 aren't in or around your top 5 then you need your head seeing to.

At least one of the three. I wouldn't say you need all of them there.

OHMSS is no 1 and FRWL is no. 3 but GF is possibly in my top 10 but I couldn't be sure.

I just don't look at it as the Holy Grail, I completely understand its status in Bond history and it still has one of the best PTS of the series and a fantastic score from Barry.

Although the PTS for me is the highlight of the film, it's like Terence Young directed it and then let the other fella take over, I really don't rate Guy Hamilton at all.

Yes I prefer SF over GF quite considerably, I must need my head seeing to.

My exact top 6, though in different order:

    1. CR
    2. TB
    3. FRWL
    4. DN
    5. OHMSS
    6. GF

That’s an update in my rankings by the way. Before, I’ve always ranked GF over OHMSS.

@Shardlake, I prefer Terence Young to Guy Hamilton as director. In fact, I think Young is my favorite Bond director. Have we ever had a Rank the Bond Director thread?

Seeing as we are all doing this -

    1. GF
    2. OHMSS
    3. LTK
    4. FRWL
    5. CR
