    DAF had a lot more excellent elements, but just didn't bring them together as well as QOS IMO.

    This was certainly an interesting round. A few ties & mistakes, a couple of blowouts, and first-ever clean sweep, which leaves us after 17 votes with a final of 145-141-3 for Diamonds Are Forever! A very close matchup, and closely aligned with my own scores.

    Three clean sweeps for You Only Live Twice? I understand you might not like the Brosnan era, but at least try to evaluate them objectively and not turn it into a bias-induced curbstomp.

    No such thing from me at least. I enjoyed the MTS in TND and Dr. Kaufmann as well. It is just that in these 17 categories YOLT sweeps the floor with TND. Must be honest after all.

    While I personally agree, objectively I must point out that there really can't be objectivity here.
    These are absolutely my two favourite BIG Bonds. Some feel that TSWLM trumps them both. It's a big world of differing opinions...

    I'm one of those people who think Spy trumps the other two, for various reasons, including better pacing and more exotic locations.

    Now this will be interesting- the first Bond film I saw on the big screen (TND) versus one of the first Bond films I owned on VHS (YOLT).

    PTS: TND- easily one of the best in the series.
    Title Track: YOLT- but who would win if Surrender was TND's main theme? :-?
    Title Credits: YOLT- although the girl wearing the diamond necklace in TND is an absolute babe!
    Main Villain: YOLT- Blofeld is iconic, whereas Carver seems rather (mocks Kung Fu moves) 'pathetic'
    Main Bond Girl: TND- Wai Lin kicks ass, not that I have anything against the lovely Kissy.
    Overall Plot: YOLT- Hard decision here. I like the media plot reflecting the times, but there's something more intriguing about an unidentified spacecraft lurking around in the dark depths of space and gobbling up astronauts.
    Dialogue: YOLT- TND has a little too much cheesy dialogue to compete with this one
    Score: TND- great use of the Bond theme and Surrender. I also love the 'techno sax' intro to Carver's party in Hamburg.
    Settings: YOLT- there's more variety in TND, but what we see of Japan is stunning.
    Action: TND- PTS, carpark chase, stealth boat shoot-out, HALO jump. It's all there.
    Humour: TND has more humour than YOLT, but degree of humour in Bond is not something I'm really concerned with.
    Cinematography: YOLT for obvious reasons.
    *Benign Bizarre: YOLT
    Suspense: YOLT- the first part of the PTS for example. Pretty much any time Bird 1 is on screen.
    Minor Characters: TND- Dr. Kaufman is one of the best minor characters in the franchise.
    Glamour: YOLT
    Ally: YOLT- I always warm to Aki and Tanaka, the latter being one of Bond's best allies.

    YOLT: 11
    TND: 5

    I guess I shouldn't be surprised with the results. YOLT is, after all, a big scale classic. I do however, prefer to watch TND as it doesn't drag as much, and it's just a fun film overall.

    You're right, but that's not carte blanche to let Brosnan get run over with bias steamrollers. Perhaps I'm just surprised by how overwhelmingly people seem to prefer YOLT, considering that it's usually in the lower tier of rankings.

    Don't get me wrong, I love myself some Brosnan. He slides in at 3rd on my ranking, and he gets the honor of being my first Bond (well, he shares it with Craig, but Brosnan's still great).
