CR :7- SF:8 . This exercise is all wrong because I have CR as my favorite Bond film, while SF is currently at 4 behind FRWL and GF. :P

Since this is by the elements, I'll go by which film objectively achieved the classic Bond elements better, then by which I prefer.

    PTS: CR, prefer CR
    Title Track: SF, prefer SF
    Title Credits: SF, prefer CR
    Main Villain: SF, prefer SF
Main Bond Girl: SF, prefer CR
    Overall Plot: CR, prefer CR
    Dialogue: SF, prefer SF
    Score: SF, prefer CR
    Settings: SF, prefer SF
    Action: SF, prefer CR
    Humor: SF, prefer SF
    Cinematography: SF, prefer SF
    Benign Bizarre: SF, prefer SF
    Suspense: CR, prefer CR
    Minor Characters: CR, prefer CR

Achieved elements best- CR: 4, SF: 11
    Preferred- CR: 8, SF: 7.

I only preferred the less-traditional elements of CR 4-to-15.
This test is extremely accurate; I do take CR just barely over SF.

That's a good idea, given people may decide to edit their answers and whatnot. I can tally them up, if you decide you don't want to do so.
  • Okay, here are the results for the first tilt.

Skyfall wins eight categories, Casino Royale wins seven.

Skyfall gets 119 total votes, Casino Royale gets 106.

As I expected, these are two evenly matched Bond films. And our next match, between License to Kill and The Living Daylights, could produce similar results. So without further adoo, awaaaaay we go!

I'm afraid this is quite a strange result for me.. I'd really put TLD and LTK evenly matched, but it seems TLD dominates LTK on the elements listed here! it seems ranking and comparing Bond movies never ceases to amaze me!

*This was very, very close. I really like Pam, she's a stronger character and she's fitter than Kara but I think Bond cared more about Kara. One of the few times where Bonds relationship with the girl has felt real.

*I think the Dalton films have by far the best action in the series and again it was really close. LTK had the plane fishing, TLD had the truck stunt. LTK had the tanker chase, TLD had the cargo net fight. It was close but I think the cargo net fight is the best stunt in film history so TLD wins. Both have brilliant action though and what's amazing is that the stunts were done for real. If they made these films today half of it would be CGI.

TLD wins overall but I prefer LTK because of Sanchez. Both are fantastic films though and for me they're the high point of the series. I don't think any Bond film will beat these two in my eyes. We've had some good one's before and since but the Dalton films will always be my favourites.

But the villains--including Professor Joe--are a very humorous bunch. Not that I'm trying to influence anybody, of course, but the humor is for the entire film, not just Bond himself.

    LTK takes 8-7.

Sanchez's iguana, Professor Joe, Sanchez's Aztec-styled drug compound, the statue that stares at Bond when he awakes, all qualify as Benign Bizarre.

In TLD, you've got the carnival setting, and the balloons, just off of the top of my head. The cello case escape could possibly be classed as BB as well.

Maybe not quite benign bizzare, but David Hedison's acting is really campy in the first few scenes, like straight out of the Rockford Files, or better yet, his performance in LALD. LTK is a benign bizzare experience in that it is played up as a much tougher, grittier, and violent Bond film, but there are a number of campy and strange things going on that give a bizzare effect.

True. It's almost stereophonic. Gritty and tough on the one hand, and on the other it plays like DAF. DAF is exactly the opposite. People consider it a campy jokefest, but it has moments of horrific brutality that would make Franz Sanchez sweat.
