    I thought the highlights of MoS were the flashbacks featuring Kevin Costner (who was by far the best thing in the movie). I could have done with more of those scenes.

    I think I enjoyed a lot of "trash" this summer because I went to see so many films for cheap with little-to-no expectations. It's a shame that you can peg what's coming out when: January and August is the time for the 'bad films' to be dumped that nobody will really want to see, summer is for massive blockbusters, and the latter two to three months of the year are held for Oscar films. I guess a part of me has subconsciously avoided going to the movies this past month or so because it's such a gamble anymore.

    That I'll agree to. Costner's performance was the hands down the best moments of the film.

    RIDDICK 3 - excellent
    Iron Man 3 - Good fun
    Gravity - All right
    Thor 2 - Good fun
    Star Trek 2 - enjoyable ride

    Captain America - Looking forward
    Hobbit 2 - I wish the movie was here already

    I haven't really seen many releases from this year. Only The Wolverine came to my mind and it was a so-so movie. I've been catching up with last year's movies so I'm very much behind. But, it's hard to match 2012 with Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, The Master and even Silver Linings Playbook. 2014 and 2015, specially, look far more promising.

    I haven't seen any bad movies this year. Missed out on seeing Man Of Steel. My two personal favourites were probably Star Trek Into Darkness and Rush.

    I can't remember the start of the year (early onset Alzheimer's?) but since the summer I've been to the cinema to see:

    Man Of Steel - simply awful.
    Kick Ass 2 - Fun but a step down from the first.
    Alpha Papa - Better than I was expecting but obviously couldnt reach the heights of I'm Alan Partridge.
    The Fifth Estate - Decent but didn't really grab you.
    Captain Phillips - Tom Hanks was superb but I think they could've knocked off 15 mins or so.

    Missed Rush alas but will make sure I experience Gravity in IMAX and 3D.

    Looking back not a vintage year by any stretch.

    Am I the only one who thinks 2015 isn't looking that great? There's Bond obviously and I'm looking forward to Assassin's Creed but most of the films everyone is excited for seem to be CGI fests.

    I think 2014 is looking much more promising. Mad Max alone puts it above 2015 imo.

    I don't mean to bump this, but it seemed like an appropriate place. So, now that the big Oscar worthy films are starting to release, does anyone have a list of their favorite film(s) of 2013? I still have quite a few I need to get around to, but off the top of my head, here is my top three:

    1.) Out Of The Furnace
    2.) Prisoners
    3.) Oblivion

    I still need to see 'Gravity,' 'Captain Phillips,' and '12 Years A Slave.' I missed 'Gravity' in theaters, so the only way I want to see it now is on blu-ray. I also need to catch 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' and 'American Hustle,' and I think that's about it for films that I think might top any of the three on my list.

    Same. Once my girlfriend is back from the holidays, I think we'll be doing a double feature of that and 'American Hustle.' Should make for a long day of movie-going.

    Now, with that, what were your least favorite/most disappointing films, whether you were anticipating them or not?

    I'd say one of the biggest fan disappointments this year was probably A Good Day to Die Hard. That's on Sky now.

    Best film I saw all year was probably Alpha Papa. Really looking forward to seeing Anchorman 2 though, and 12 years a slave (although that's not out until next year so does it count?).

    I went to see all the Die Hard films for a valentines present. Brilliant gift but to be honest I would've been even happier if we'd just left after the 3rd film finished. Not a huge fan of the fourth film (good flick in it's own right but felt nothing like Die Hard) and although the reviews lowered my expectations, the fifth was just pure shite. Worst film of the year for me.

    It's been very hit or miss. Gravity was the only film I saw this year that I truly thought was amazing. I've yet to see American Hustle but I hear it's phenomenal.

    As far as summer blockbusters went the year was pretty terrible. Star Trek Into Darkness was the only big budget summer film I enjoyed this year.

    This year I've been a bit lazy in terms of my cinema visits/movies viewed.

    I know this is a bit controversial but I thought Gravity was a little overrated. The effects are incredible but a lot of the dialogue/story felt kind of clichéd to me. It also copies Alien directly.

    In terms of the best "blockbuster" that has to go to Iron Man 3 (which I've only seen recently for the first time admittedly). Oblivion was alright but again felt like it cut and pasted a lot from other sci/fi films.

    For me the best film I've seen this year is still Philomena. More reliant on story and performances.

    I hated that too (I liked Jodie Foster there though). Anyhoo, here are my favorites for 2013:

    My biggest disappointment this year was probably The East.

    I thought 'Movie 43' had some funny scenes. It got trashed, but to me, most of the low-budget comedies that everyone hates, I seem to have a soft spot for and love immensely: 'Boat Trip,' 'A Good Old Fashioned Orgy,' 'The Goods,' and 'White Chicks,' to name a few.
