Isn't this what Bond's first Bentley would be? I didn't realize it had this rake or a boat tail.

  • Looks like it to me.
Ralph Lauren has one and his son often drives it around the back country near Greenwich CT.
Hellishly difficult to drive but visually very cool.

The programme 'The Real Casino Royale' (BBC Four, November 2006) had its host drive one of these big beasts of the motor world.

My Kingdom to be able to watch 'The Real Casino Royale' (BBC Four, November 2006).

Does it exist anywhere on the web?

A prelimary search of You Tube shows that it's not on there, as I thought. I have it recorded on tape in my vaults, and very good it is, too. It covers not only the Fleming text and the influences behind it, but also the TV and film adaptations of the work in 1954, 1967 and 2006. It also includes large parts of Fleming's CBC Interview from 1964. Well worth seeing, as it's pretty in-depth as Bond documentaries go.
  • Was it a '31 or a '33? Seems like Ian may have given different indications in different stories/novels.

As I remember it says it was bought "nearly new", or some such, in 1933 but was among the last of the 4.5 litres and according to Wikipedia 1931 was the last production year for the "Blown" 4.5 Bentley's.

  • I bet Bond didn't get too many passengers wanting to step over that exhaust system. Lots of ruined nylons, trouser legs and skin I bet.

    Good point there, @Cameron_Mott.
