Well, let's see if @QBranch was right; will Spy trouble the top of the tree?

    Overall Bondian Scores

    On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 88.50%
    Casino Royale - 87.85%
The Spy Who Loved Me - 80.83%
    GoldenEye - 78.94%
    Dr No- 78.7%
    The Living Daylights - 78.61%
For Your Eyes Only - 77.68%
    Thunderball - 77.47%
    Goldfinger - 77.23%
    Licence To Kill - 77.04%
    Octopussy - 76.61%
    Skyfall - 75.4%
Live and Let Die - 74.52%
    A View To A Kill - 72.22%
You Only Live Twice - 70.27%
    Tomorrow Never Dies - 70.20%
    Moonraker - 67.4%
The Man With The Golden Gun - 61.33%
    Quantum of Solace - 59.40%
    Diamonds Are Forever - 56.05%
    Die Another Day - 39.92%

Well, I'm mighty chuffed. Only behind Majesty's and Casino Royale, and it's only the third film to get above 80%. It seems that everyone loves a bit of Spy, and only one @Kerim rating it lower than 100, with a wholly respectable 91. Spy is an enjoyable Bond film, that captures all that we love about the series.

Is it higher/lower than your own ratings?

Mine - 83.33% Forums - 80.83%. Hmm, just barley. What is interesting, the forums rated Spy in third position, whilst I have it in tenth.

What is your favourite category/element/thing about Spy?

Definitely Sir Rog's performance. He created his legend in Spy.

What surprised you the most, while reading other peoples ratings?

How much love there is for Spy. Certainly I have a blast watching it, and it seems I'm not alone.

Oh, that's great! A very strong position, and I think there is only two more films that can challenge that position.

Well, just one really. I think it's safe to say TWINE will get nowhere near the top of the rankings. FRWL could well usurp OHMSS though.

Great to see Spy in 3rd. :-bd

Happy to see Spy get such a good score. It's kinda weird that it only finished 11th in the bond film elimination game though...

My opinion on this film has soared recently, so this score is a little surprising as I thought it might have entered the high seventies.

    1. Direction - 6. Apted is competent but the action is really dragging at times. I think the ski chase is the worst offender as I don't actually dislike the submarine climax. Minus a point for his negative (and wrong) comments about the pre-TWINE films.
    2. Screenplay - 9. I actually think on paper this is an incredibly strong screenplay.
    3. Script - 5. What was an intelligent script is ruined by too many cliches and outright horrible lines.
    4. Plot - 8. The concept is a 10, but I think that the underusage (oh look I just invented a word) of Renard and the inclusion of Jones, who is a completely unnecessary character drag it down a couple points.
    5. Action - 7. I've commented on the action above.
    6. Main Villain - 9. Elektra King is phenomenal, sexy, and although it's blaringly obvious she's not on Bond's side, she's still a really interesting character.
    7. Main Bond Girl - 5. She gets 0/5 for her character and 5/5 for the fact that she's the hottest Bond girl ever to the point where, in conversation, I got Calvin Dyson himself to openly call her sexy.
    8. Bond - 8. Brosnan's best performance by far, but it's Brosnan, and in the end, he knew about my shoooooulder, knew exactly where to huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurt me.
    9. Sets - 6. They're good sets but kind of blandly coloured. They also horrendously underused their locations. I've never seen a movie manage to make Spain OR Istanbul look so bland.
    10. Music - 8. My third-favourite Arnold soundtrack. Has some bits that are kind of questionable though.
    11. Cinematography - 6. I'm gonna say this is on par with the direction. Serviceable but that's about it.
    12. Fleming - 8. I love the usage of the title, a callback to OHMSS, and although the usage of the line itself is a bit forced, the payoff ("Foolish sentiment." "Family motto.") is one of Brosnan's absolute best "funny" moments. Aside from that, I think Fleming would be happy with the plot of this film.

    /5
    13. Supporting Cast - 3. Minus a point for Bullion, minus another point for Davidov, the Russian scientist and Gabor who are all piss poor.
    14. Main Titles - 4. I love the TWINE titles, but I've given 5s to several of Binder's as well as GF, GE and CR, so I want to be able to set this apart from those because it's not quite the same level of quality.
    15. Plausibility - 2. Buzzsaw. Helicopters.
    16. Pace - 3. Drags at times.
    17. Editing - 4. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing exciting either.
    18. Tilt - 5. It needs the points, but more importantly, this was the first Bond film I ever watched. It was a VHS copy when I was seven years old. I had very negative feelings towards it because of the torture scene, and in the next ten years I only re-watched it once because of that, and I think I didn't give it a fair chance, as I very openly dismissed TWINE as one of the worst. Now I've seen it a few times since, evaluated it objectively and, nostalgia aside, it borders on my top ten, might even be #10 on my list actually.

    Overall - 106/150

    Percentage - 70.67%

    Orbis Non Sufficit

Direction: 7 (the script was great... so what happened?)
Screenplay: 7 (could've been handled better)
Script: 8 (great script, but some of it was poorly executed)
Plot: 9 (I really like the plot, and we finally get a villainess)
Action: 7 (pretty generic apart from the PTS; too much of Bond swinging around on ropes and chains)
Main Villain: 8 (Elektra was great, but with some unbelievable dialogue; Renard/Carlyle was underused)
Main Bond Girl: 6 (looks great, I have no issues with her acting- but she's not fleshed out enough)
Bond: 8 (Bond has some great moments here, and nice try with the dramatic angle, but there seems to be a lack of consistency I just can't describe)
Sets: 5 (none of the sets really stood out- the caviar factory looks good at night, but that's about it)
Music: 5 (nothing special IMO, except for maybe the PTS chase and pipeline bomb)
Cinematography: 7 (we get a good look at the Thames and Millennium Dome; the start of the ski sequence looked promising, but turned generic; some of the angles were cool, like <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d72pZf8J1HY/TWGdRjCuY4I/AAAAAAAAA04/4-TI0gAKbKc/s1600/the+world+is+not+enough+pierce+brosnan.jpg">this</a>; and <a href="http://screenmusings.org/movie/blu-ray/The-World-is-not-Enough/images/The-World-is-not-Enough-0681.jpg">this</a>;)
Fleming: 9 (there's a lot of Flemingesque material here)

Supporting Cast: 3 (Valentin was excellent as usual, Cigar Girl was memorable but brief, Elektra's bodyguards were nothing special)
Main Titles: 3 (the oil swirls look different, and I love how Bond drops into the sequence)
Plausibility: 4 (why do the helicopter tree trimmers get flack?; points off for Renard not destroying his hand with that hot rock)
Pace: 3 (pacing could be better, but could be much worse)
    Editing: 5 (no issues here)
Tilt: 3 (I enjoy the film, but I think its parts are better than the sum)

    Overall: 107/150 (Percentage: 71.3%)

    Looks about right.

    The World... of boredom...

Direction: 4 (Melodramatic sope opera with no life or real style. Boring action...)
    Screenplay: 4
Script: 3 (Fluctuates between melodramatic dialogue and cringeworthy one liners...)
Plot: 5 (Some original ideas with promise turn into a melodramatic, generic borefest. I appreciate the effort though...)
Action: 3 (Some of the worst in the series. The boat chase in London is ok, but the rest...)
Main Villain: 5 (Spends the first half stoic and lifeless, the final half as a teenage drama queen with a hormone injection. Looks good though... :\"> )
Main Bond Girl: 2 (lets move on...)
Bond: 7 (Probably Brosnans best performance... the poor guy...)
Sets: 4 (Quite bleak throughout. But the MI6 HQ in Scotland is not terrible...)
    Music: 5 (Arnold on autopilot...)
Cinematography: 5 (Not too bad from a technical point of view. But the locations are so incredibly boring and unappealing...)
Fleming: 7 (Some of the themes and plot material is not too far from Fleming)

    Supporting Cast: 2
Main Titles: 2 (Maybe the most overrated MT for me. At least the most overrated TS...)
Plausibility: 2 (A bullet in your head makes you immune to pain and increasingly stronger until you die? Yeah...)
    Pace: 1 (zzzzzzzzzz (:| )
    Editing: 4
Tilt: 1 (One of the very few films in the series I struggle to rewatch.)
