Thank you for the warm welcome, @royale65! I'm glad to be back around these parts!

    1. Direction – 8 (it's notorious for dragging heavily in some spots, but it is consistently on track and gives us a real sense of adventure)
    2. Screenplay – 8
    3. Script – 9 (Everyone seems to love TB's script, and from what I can remember, it does have some classic take-away lines)
    4. Plot – 10 (Did TB create the ol' "Hold-NATO-for-ransom-with-nuclear-threat" plot? It's helpfully simple yet powerfully gripping!)
    5. Action – 7
    6. Main Villain – 6 (he's by no means forgettable, but he would be less memorable if not for the eyepatch, unfortunately)
    7. Main Bond Girl – 7
    8. Bond – 10 (Connery makes the 007 role fit him like a glove in TB!)
    9. Sets – 8
    10. Music – 8
    11. Cinematography – 9
    12. Fleming – N/A

    /5
    13. Supporting Cast – 3 (Fiona, Vargas, and Felix are about it for this category; Paula might have been good with more screen time; Palazzi was neat, especially in the way he stood up to Lippe and Fiona at gunpoint)
    14. Main Titles - N/A (I usually skip over these)
    15. Plausibility - 4
    16. Pace - 2
    17. Editing - 4 (some scenes look odd with those '60s camera cuts, but the underwater filming itself makes TB worthy of highly-rated editing
    18. Tilt – 2

1.) Direction - 7 (solid directing - young is one of my favourite bond directors - but this is my least favourite if his bond films)
2.) Screenplay - 7 (solid - sticks a little too slavishly at times to the novel - and takes forever to get going)
3.) script - 9 (some cracking dialogue - between bond, domino, largo and Fiona)
4.) plot - 7 (solid plot. Like the countdown clock on the whole scenario.)
5.) action - 5 (the action is plodding. No great chases or henchmen fights - while some of the underwater stuff looks good - action wise it doesn't do it for me.)
6.) main villain - 6 (largo is pretty standard but I like his physical presence, control, dialogue with bond and the way he is so nonchalant at the spectre meeting as someone else is killed)
7.) main Bond girl - 6 (domino is also pretty standard but she has great dialogue with bond)
8.) bond - 9 (Connery is at his height - only not a 10 because he is cooler in FRWL and GF.)
9.) sets - 5 (because of the nature of the filming locations the sets are a little limited - but spectre room and 00 section briefing room are excellent.)
10.) Music - 6 - (not Barry's finest work but thematically he gets the vibe and I like mr kiss kiss bang bang as a ongoing theme)
11.) Cinematography - 6 (good underwater visuals. Kicks off in the Bahamas But the first half hour looks a little flat)
12.) Fleming - 6 - (it's close in many ways to the novel but then that was a collaboration! I think in GF and TB is when film Bond really became different in tone and spirit to his creator's vision)
13.) supporting cast - 4 (elevated by a wonderful performance and character in Fiona Volpe and I quite like the Felix in this too. Rest of the cast fairly ordinary)
14.) main titles - 4 (solid without being memorable)
15.) plausibility - 5 (not too outlandish by bond standards but getting there)
16.) pace - 2 (this cripples the film for me. Just painfully slow at times.)
17.) editing - 2 (the sped up footage is a curse throughout these early bonds but TB is the most glaring and sometimes unnecessary - bad in the PTS and kills the climax of the movie.)
18.) tilt - 4 (TB is middle of the road bond. I enjoy watching it for the dialogue and Connery. But most of all because it is Bond at his glorious 60s apex. He was red hot like he never would be again. To me TB is like 'With the Beatles' - far from their best work but so evocative of the time and mania surrounding them.)

PS: Honestly I find the categories a bit strange. Where is the henchman? For me this is extremely important. And I don't really understand the difference between screenplay, plot and script. For me these are all very similar categories. On the other hand, the cast could have more weight (Alies, mi6, henchmen, secondary Bond girls,.. are all summarized to supporting cast which also make out only 3% of the whole film ranking.

I also wonder if "Flemming" should be an own category. I think it is very difficult to find out what "Flemming" is... What however with categories suc as suspense, humour, romance, irony? And what about PTS?

The three categories, plot, screenplay and script are similar, yes, yet that I because I've weighted this game in just such a way - I want the scores to reflect the various elements into what I consider a good Bond movie. The screenplay category allows one to focus what preferences you find most appealing, such as is there enough humour and suspense in the film.

Personally I don't think "Humour" should be it's own category -

    a) that's what the "screenplay" category is there for

    and

    b) humour isn't that important to me. The dry, dark sardonic humour that was introduced in DN and FRWL is the template, as far as I'm concerned.

The "Fleming" category is the most important one, in my view. "does the film capture the spirit of Ian Fleming?"

The original game was over 20 categories long, but I decided that was too unwiedly, so such categories like "romance" and I think I had "intrigue" as well, got scrapped. If I included "PTS" and "henchman", for example, this game would be too similar to other games. Plus, I don't consider them important, to warrant a category. Take the "henchmen" category. It's all well and good for Red Grant or Oddjob, but what about Hans in FYEO? The weighting, therefore, would be skewed in favour of that particular film, which I find a mite unfair.

Those 12 categories, in my mind, carry the essence to a good James Bond film. All the rest are merely window dressing, IMHO of course.

I hope that cleared things up for the competitors. :)

    1. Direction- 9 (MR rarely lingers)
    2. Screenplay – 6 (silliness will bring this down)
    3. Script – 6
    4. Plot – 5
    5. Action - 6 (Good: PTS, centrifuge, fight with Chang, and the boat chase; So-so: space station battle; Bad: the "Bondola" and the cable car fight)
    6. Main Villain – 5 (a true "love him or leave him" villain if there ever was one for me)
    7. Main Bond Girl - 4 (unbearable in the beginning; improves over time, though still not very memorable)
    8. Bond – 8 (Roger Moore is always a joy to watch as 007)
    9. Sets – 9 (Drax's jungle lair and California mansion are phenomenal; the only set dragging this score down to a 9 is the space station, which seems to be a little bland)
    10. Music – 9 (a magnificent score with the exception of that irritating, bouncy rendition of the Bond theme heard in the PTS and the "Bondola" scene)
    11. Cinematography – 9
    12. Fleming - N/A

    13. Supporting Cast – 2 (Jaws is no help due to his odd change from menace to clown; Chang should have been the sole henchman, giving him a chance to flesh out his character and leaving Jaws to a stellar role in TSWLM)
    14. Main Titles - N/A
    15. Plausibility - 1
    16. Pace - 4 (almost perfect if not for some dragging in the second half)

    Boom! It's the Brosnan début!

    GoldenEye, 1995

    /10
    1. Direction – 8 (I could do with a bit of a trim on some action scenes)
    2. Screenplay – 8 (erratic - plus Boris gets far too much screentime - but the screenplay ask Bond to validate himself in the post Cold War era, which he does so admirably)
    3. Script – 9 (only minus are the Boris lines. “Slughead” indeed)
    4. Plot – 7
    5. Action – 9
    6. Main Villain – 9
    7. Main Bond Girl – 9
    8. Bond – 8 (Brozz made good )
    9. Sets – 6 (very T.V feel)
    10. Music – 6 (it's certainly distinctive)
    11. Cinematography – 7
    12. Fleming – 7

    /5
    13. Supporting Cast – 5 (this is where GE shines)
    14. Main Titles – 5 (In Kleinman we trust)
    15. Plausibility – 4 (minus for the physics defying plane jump)
    16. Pace - 4
    17. Editing – 4
    18. Tilt – 4

    119/150 = 79.33%

    Quantum of Solace – 81.33%

The World Is Not Enough – 74.66%
    Moonraker - 72.66%
The Man With The Golden Gun – 67.33%

Hmm, according to this GE is rated higher than TWINE, which is not how I have them ranked. Still, maths never lies!
