Boom. From Russia With Love takes its place, quite rightly in my view, at the top of the Bondian tree.

FRWL ranked 1/23 in our 2014 tournament with 92.0083%

    James Bond will return.

This is it. Time for what we’ve all been waiting for. Time to dissect the latest Bond opus, Spectre -

    Spectre, 2015

    /10
    1. Direction – 8 (Mendes kept the pace and involvement up until the finale)
    2. Screenplay – 6 (why oh why did they have to included the foster brother nonsense?)
    3. Script – 9 (the dialogue, however, I had no issues with)
    4. Plot – 7 (an underrated plot to seize control of the worlds surveillance)
    5. Action – 8 (I enjoyed it for the most part. Extra marks for the superb Bond/Hinx fight)
    6. Main Villain – 6
    7. Main Bond Girl – 9 (Those eyes. Seydoux carries the underwritten part)
    8. Bond – 10 (a completely unburdened portrayal from Craig, with the joie de vivre and the gentlemanly conduct I expect from my Bonds)
    9. Sets – 9 (The Rome meeting hall and the Austrian clinic were almost up to Adam’s standards)
    10. Music – 6 (Again, really enjoyed it – sans the SF repetition – until the droning that accompanies the finale. Extra marks for Dr. Swann’s theme)
    11. Cinematography – 9 (Superb if not for the filter)
    12. Fleming – 6 (Blofeld as Bond’s brother hey?)

    /5
    13. Supporting Cast – 4 (mark of for Harris)
    14. Main Titles – 5 (in Kleinman we trust
    15. Plausibility – 4 (miraculous recovery for Bond)
    16. Pace – 4
    17. Editing –4

    1. Direction – 6 (I think that the pacing is really bad and the film is overlong)
    2. Screenplay – 5
    3. Script – 5
    4. Plot – 4 (well the script and its plot is the biggest problem of the film)
    5. Action - 7 (some good some lame ones)
    6. Main Villain – 5 (totally underused in the film and a horrible back story and motivation)
    7. Main Bond Girl - 8 (I like her, very well acted but she is actually not really essential to the plot and is more the damsel in distress most of the time)
    8. Bond – 8 (I like his performance)
    9. Sets – 7 ( the sets themselves are quiet good but there are too many locations in this film. It is hard to foucs on one particular location)
    10. Music – 7 (not as bad as many say)
    11. Cinematography – 10 (Spectre is good here)
    12. Fleming - 6 (the first half really delivers before it falls flat completely towards the end)

    13. Supporting Cast – 4 (good but underused)

    15. Plausibility - 3

Spectre is a very controversial film. Some love it, some hate it. In Gustav's ranking only the top10 count. Therefore the Spectre lovers elevate this film in his ranking. In this game or the "Spectre versus the field" game, the Spectre haters push it down.

SP has grown on me a lot in a year. My enjoyment of films is often contextual, and it can take me some time for me to realize what contexts were playing out when I saw a film. As I look back, Fall 2015 was a rough one for me on many levels. I realized this the other day while hearing the Madeleine theme in my car...hadn't listened to the SP OST in a while.

So here we go...(by the way: "locales" needs to be a category):

Oh, yeah. Thx for asking. I had attended three funerals (one for an old friend) in the weeks leading up to SP's release. The entire title sequence has deeper significance to me now.

Spectre ranks 17th on its debut. Ahead of the bottom feeders, but little else.

Spectre did not take part in our 2014 game, coz it wasn’t out yet. Duh.

So, what did everyone think of our rankings? I don’t think the top three surprised us. And it’s the same as mine, so the community knows what it is talking about, I suppose.

    Let’s take a look at the 2016 and 2014 tournaments -

Spy dropped from 4th in 2014 to 9th in 2016, with about a 2% drop.

GE dropped to 7th in 2016 after getting a top five result last time.

GF done well this time, rising to 4th from 10th.

QoS climbed from 21st in 2014 with the measly ranking of 59% to a more respectable 15th this time around with 74%.

The bottom six or so are about the same, although MR didn’t do as well in 2016.

My heart weeps for my beloved TWINE.

@MayDayDiVicenzo will be slightly upset seeing his cherished AVTAK slip from 15th to 19th.

SF done about the same – I expected it to drop, but it went up to 11th from 13th.

The biggest shock to me was TB’s performance – in the top ten in 2014 to 16th in 2016, but the % ratings weren’t that far apart.

    Thoughts on our ranking?

All that’s left for me to say, is a big thank you to all for participating.

James Bond will return with CR’54 tomorrow.
