One of my favourites of the series, Dalton was brilliant here. I just wish they stuck with this setting and tone for a bit longer. TLD was the boost of energy the series needed in 1987

Well, we have a new leader. The thrilling TLD edges out the magnificent DN and the sumptuous TB by a small margin. I think this is the first time that TLD has been so high against DN in this game.

@R1s1ngs0n – if you could include your final tallies that would be great. I.E. 123/150. It really cuts down on the amount of work that I have to do. Cheers.

    1. Direction – 8 (Despite his penchant for the iffy editing and his bizarre insistent of having all four elements in the film, Forster delivers us a real character study on our man Jimmy)
    2. Screenplay – 7
    3. Script – 8
    4. Plot – 8 (A refreshingly small scale plot, that is secondary to Bond’s arc)
    5. Action – 7
    6. Main Villain – 7 (Bonus points for having crazy eyes)
    7. Main Bond Girl – 9
    8. Bond – 9 (a bit more subtle than his turn in CR, but no less engaging)
    9. Sets – 8 (a triumphant debut by Gassner)
    10. Music – 8
    11. Cinematography – 10 (the crisp black and whites, the wonderful colour palette)
    12. Fleming – 8

    /5
    13. Supporting Cast – 4 (minus marks for Medrano and his nasally voice)
    14. Main Titles – 4 (I’ve come around to their simplicity)
    15. Plausibility - 3
    16. Pace – 5 (a sombre tale that moves with the pace of a bullet)

Not a bad showing for QoS. Lines up pretty well my own personal rankings.

There's a great film in there somewhere, the action is fantastic and exciting but it's horribly edited. The script is top notch in places, some of my favourite lines from the series are in this film, but it feels like it's not finished (which it obviously wasn't). One thing I don't normally pick on is Bond's clothes are really cool and stylish in this as well.

I just wish they would have focused the plot more on the Bond revenge for Vesper and investigating Quantum than the small stakes plot of the water.
On the whole though everybody did a great job on this film under the circumstances

    1. Direction – 8 (A bit of bloating on his action scenes aside, this was a cracker from Campbell)
    2. Screenplay – 8
    3. Script – 9 (The script asks Jimmy to validate his place in a post Cold War world. Something he does with aplomb)
    4. Plot – 7
    5. Action – 8
    6. Main Villain – 8
    7. Main Bond Girl – 9 (Great character, great actress, great chemistry with the Brozz)

    13. Supporting Cast – 4 (Would have given this one a 5, but Boris)
    14. Main Titles – 5 (wonderful debut by Kleinman)
    15. Plausibility - 3
    16. Pace – 3 (the scenes flitting between Severnaya and MI6, and the extended exchange between Boris and Natalya really hurt this category)
    17. Editing – 4
    18. Tilt – 4 (I’ve come to appreciate GE a lot during recent viewings)
