Two more - QOS and TB - to add to the end of my Bondathon, along with the usual quips between Bond and his galaxy of lovely ladies.

Dr No 1962 ( "Are you looking for shells?" "No. I'm just looking" )

You Only Live Twice 1967 ( "He wouldn't touch that horrible woman, would you?" "Heaven forbid")

Octopussy 1983 ("Moneypenny, you become more beautiful every day" "I'm over here" "But of course you are")

The World Is Not Enough 1999 ( "I've got to get it back, or someone's gonna have my ass" "First things first")

Moonraker 1979 ("Can you think of a reason why we can't go for a drink after?" "Not immediately, but I'm sure I shall")

For Your Eyes Only 1981 ( "He thinks I'm still a virgin" " Yes well, get your clothes on..and I'll buy you an ice-cream")

The Living Daylights 1987 ("We're free" "Kara, we're in a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan" "Well, at least we're together")

Goldfinger 1964 ("My name is Pussy Galore" "I must be dreaming")

Licence To Kill 1989 ( "Felix is still in the study and we've got to cut the cake" "I'll do anything for a woman with a knife")

Live And Let Die 1973 ("Is there time for lesson number 3?" "Absolsutely darling, there's no sense going off half cocked")

The Man With The Golden Gun 1974 ("I approve" "You do?" " Oh not the wine; the frock! Tight in all the right places and not too many buttons" )

Spectre 2015 ("You shouldn't stare like that" "Well, you shouldn't look like that")

Tomorrow Never Dies 1997 ("Every now and then, you get to work with a decadent agent of a corrupt Western power" "And they say Communists don't know how to have fun")

From Russia With Love 1963 ("Will you make love to me when we are back in England?" "Day and night..now go on about the mechanism")

Quantum Of Solace 2008 ("Bond, if you could possibly avoid killing every possible lead it would be greatly appreciated" "Yes ma'am..I'll do my best" )

Thunderball 1965 ("Haven't you had enough exercise for one evening?" "Mm, funny you should say that")

Been slacking, again, with my first Bondathon of the year. Latest one, watched today, was Tomorrow Never Dies. It's kinda fun and Michelle Yeoh is great but I don't see it making much of a change the next time I sort my ranking out. Next up, Moonraker...

My new Bondathon has begun. I've started with a wonderful double feature of Dr. No and From Russia With Love. Both are excellent, wonderful crafted thrillers with all the right ingredients. As with my last Bondathon last summer, Dr. No just takes the top as better film in my eyes. I will try to watch two Bond films a day and as with my previous one, I will watch them in actor order once again as that's how I prefer to watch them.

How often do you guys do a Bondathon? I think I've only ever gone right through the series in one go once - when the blu-rays came out (2011?)

I generally do a couple of year, can't help myself. If I'm ever stuck for something to watch I'll always get a Bondathon going.

Up to 2014 I have "only" done 11 Bondathons in the following years if I recall correctly.

    1993 (LaserDisc)
    1995 (LaserDisc)
    1997 (LaserDisc)
    1999 (LaserDisc/DVD)
    2002 (DVD)
    2005 (DVD)
    2007 (DVD)
    2009 (DVD/Blu-ray)
    2012 (Blu-ray)
    2015 (Blu-ray) 2 Bondathons in that year.
    2016 (Blu-ray) 8 movies so far

Besides that I have watched TLD, GE, TND, DAD, CR a number of times whenever I felt like it.

Between 1989 and 1993 I have seen various Bond movies on TV, the last one I've ever seen was OHMSS. The first one must have been Octopussy.

A few nights ago, I watched the next movie in my first Bondathon of the year and that was Moonraker. Now, I know that this is generally thought of as one of the worst Bond movies in the series but, even though, I can't help but enjoy it. It's the popcorn movie of the series for me. Yes, the space thing is silly and yes, it's pretty much a redo of TSWLM but I still believe it to be fun and I can't see it ever in the relegation zone of my rankings. Plus, it does have some good things going for it such as Sir Rog on good form, Michael Lonsdale as Drax, the centrifuge scene, the dark scene of Corrines' death as well as the scene showing Jaws in clown costume walking towards Manuela in the alley.

    @BondJasonBond007 Thank you!
@Shark_Of_Largo The interesting thing about Moonraker is that there are some of the most tense and exciting moments in the series. You mention Corinne's death and Jaws in clown costume, add to that the centrifuge scene, Bond breaking in to Drax's safe and the death of the scientists in the lab and you do have a few quite dramatic and tense scenes. More so than many Bond films.

However, it all descends into juvenile humour and outlandish stunts. Which is a shame but that's the way it was in the late 70s.

If only clown Bond from OP had encountered clown Jaws from MR. What an epic confrontation that would have been.

Haven't bothered to update in the thread yet, but this year, I've done a spirited run of the Bond flicks from the 60's to the 90's (so far, I'll get to the next millennium eventually), just to see how Bond films involved. I'm at GoldenEye now, after a couple of days of binge-watching to catch up (I took a month-long break).

Now, GE was my first film, but I wasn't with Bond the whole way. I hadn't seen any of them up to then, so I imagine that for the ones who saw Bond since Connery's days (or even joined in during the Moore era), it'd feel weird for a Bond to be set after the Cold War, but then again, GE makes a point of that throughout the film.

But certainly, I've noticed that "Cold War thrillers" - FRWL, TSWLM, OP, and TLD - are held in high esteem on this board, and they're usually considered top ten material. There must be something about them that has such an appeal, because I don't believe it'd be all coincidental.

EDIT: I've placed them in the update thread.

Just finished up with YOLT. I enjoyed it more than last year and I didn't get sleepy once. It's still one of the weaker films for me. It falls apart during the Ninja Training scenes. It just takes up so much time that more important elements like Blofeld are left on the back burner. The finale is weak but like a lot of weaker Bond films the first half is pretty solid.

Yes, YOLT always surprises me. It's an easy watch, TB has way more "sleep inducing" sequences :))
Still, as you said, it's just not upper half material in the ranking. There are too many good Bond movies around, not that this would be a complaint :))

YOLT for me is one of those on again, off again movies for me. Most times I can enjoy it, other times it's a chore to watch. I can see where TB can be tedious for some but I think the story is much tighter so the slowed down factor to the film is forgivable. YOLT's story is a bit of a mess. I like it, I just wish more thought was put into Blofeld. It's a shame he's terribly wasted and practically useless and only seen for less than 5 minutes. Pity really.

Very true, and some people complain about Waltz's Blofeld 8-| I think they should be forced to watch DAFs and YOLTs Blofeld continuously for one month 12 hours a day :))

Had a double feature of LALD and TMWTGG. LALD has always been one of my favorites. TMWTGG was one of my favorites as a kid but in recent years I don't like it as much as I used too, I still enjoyed it though it's still a bit weak in my eyes. I've grown to like J.W. Pepper more. As silly and out of place as he is, he does get some laughs out of me.

@Birdleson, I'm afraid not. I'm a little confused by how it works.

Anyhow, I've just finished TSWLM and enjoyed it very much once again. I was focusing on the music score this time and I do enjoy the non disco sounding beats. The Tanker is my favorite track to be sure and one thing to notice is The score is one of two instances where the Roger Moore era Bond themes use the classic Guitar riffs over the symphonic versions Barry did throughout Moore's run.
