So with Goldfinger done and dusted it's time to update the current rankings. And I'm thinking @Birdleson may be in for a shock.
For a while there (the past few years) GF fell down my rankings. Somewhere just outside the top ten. Never a bad movie, but at times a little flat maybe.
Well that's all changed. In fact, watching the films in a random order seems to have changed my opinion of many of the films. And so the brilliance of Goldfinger has been rightfully restored. This is the film that changed everything. Bigger in every way. The villains, the girls, the gadgets and the sets. Even the John Barry score seems bigger. It's a great movie from start to finish, with so many iconic moments, and wonderful performances from all involved.

    Rankings thus far...
    1. From Russia With Love
    2 .Goldfinger
    3. The Spy Who Loved Me
    4. Thunderball
    5. For Your Eyes Only
    6. GoldenEye
    7. Live And Let Die
    8. Licence To Kill
    9. You Only Live Twice
    10. Skyfall
    11. Diamonds Are Forever
    12. The Man With The Golden Gun
    13. Moonraker
    14. Die Another Day
    15. Tomorrow Never Dies
    16. A View To A Kill
    17. Quantum Of Solace
    18. The World Is Not Enough

    Next up...Casino Royale
And with only The Living Daylights, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Spectre, Octopussy and Doctor No left, I'm wondering how some of those are going to fair.

Feels like forever since the last Bond I watched, but maybe I needed a break after Die Another Day. Still, follow that up with a top entry - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Dr No 1962 ( "Are you looking for shells?" "No. I'm just looking" )

You Only Live Twice 1967 ( "He wouldn't touch that horrible woman, would you?" "Heaven forbid")

Octopussy 1983 ("Moneypenny, you become more beautiful every day" "I'm over here" "But of course you are")

The World Is Not Enough 1999 ( "I've got to get it back, or someone's gonna have my ass" "First things first")

Moonraker 1979 ("Can you think of a reason why we can't go for a drink after?" "Not immediately, but I'm sure I shall")

For Your Eyes Only 1981 ( "He thinks I'm still a virgin" " Yes well, get your clothes on..and I'll buy you an ice-cream")

The Living Daylights 1987 ("We're free" "Kara, we're in a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan" "Well, at least we're together")

Goldfinger 1964 ("My name is Pussy Galore" "I must be dreaming")

Licence To Kill 1989 ( "Felix is still in the study and we've got to cut the cake" "I'll do anything for a woman with a knife")

Live And Let Die 1973 ("Is there time for lesson number 3?" "Absolsutely darling, there's no sense going off half cocked")

The Man With The Golden Gun 1974 ("I approve" "You do?" " Oh not the wine; the frock! Tight in all the right places and not too many buttons" )

Spectre 2015 ("You shouldn't stare like that" "Well, you shouldn't look like that")

Tomorrow Never Dies 1997 ("Every now and then, you get to work with a decadent agent of a corrupt Western power" "And they say Communists don't know how to have fun")

From Russia With Love 1963 ("Will you make love to me when we are back in England?" "Day and night..now go on about the mechanism")

Quantum Of Solace 2008 ("Bond, if you could possibly avoid killing every possible lead it would be greatly appreciated" "Yes ma'am..I'll do my best" )

Thunderball 1965 ("Haven't you had enough exercise for one evening?" "Mm, funny you should say that")

A View To A Kill 1985 ( "Quiche Des Cabinet" "Sounds interesting. What is it?" "An omelette")

Skyfall (2012) ( "Can you kill him?" "Yes!" "Will you?" "Someone usually dies")

Die Another Day (2002) ("You'd better stay here and keep up the charade of being lovers" "Alright. I must say I admire your restraint. You were here a full two hours before anything blew up")

On Her Majesty's Secret Service ( "Suppose I were to kill you for a thrill?" "I can think of something more sociable to do")

@NicNac, I looked at that list a little too quickly and thought it was a ranking at first; couldn't believe someone would have OHMSS below DAD!

Took me nearly twenty years to finally be able to rank them, and even still, the very first ranking I did is much different than the second one I did weeks back.

Well, life keeps getting in the way of my updating my own Bondathon but, finally, here we go with a little update. My first Bondathon of the year, while being slow going (again, life has a habit of interrupting it) I'm now over halfway through. Since my last update I've watched TMWTGG (Sir Rog is ace and, along with Christopher Lee, the best part of a lacklustre Bond adventure), TLD (This will earn a higher spot in my next ranking for sure as I enjoyed it much more than last time and think I appreciated it more - this was my first Bond at the cinema so it should rank highly I guess), YOLT (fun enough adventure and always enjoy watching it), TB (Some great scenes in this but, at times, I can get bored watching the underwater scenes as they can see to drag on a little), AVTAK (People can say what they like about this but I can't help but enjoy it. For me, a decent and fun Bond adventure) and LALD (Sir Rogs' first outing and a solid start to his tenure as 007. I always wish he had a better intro though, along the lines of SC, TD etc, but I guess it showed us that his Bond generally finds his way to bed).

Now, off to the Bond Meter to update.

    Not even DAD below OHMSS?

That's an easy enough one Thunderfinger. But, when I have spent years preferring say LALD to TMWTGG, and then suddenly out of the blue I see the latter in a new light and the former becomes a bit of a drag, I start to question my own sanity. And then they swap back a year later.

All of the 60s apart from TB would be in my top 10, easily. That's about all I can decide. Others would probably be OP, SF, perhaps CR, maybe TLD...then I'm lost and confused.

I have some time this weekend, maybe I will do a Bondathon. I think I will watch the films in the order that I first saw them. Thus:
    DN-GF
    FRWL-TB
    OHMSS
    DAF
    LALD
    YOLT
    TMWTGG
    TSWLM
    MR
    FYEO
    OP
    AVTAK:
    TLD
    LTK
    TWINE
    CR
    QoS
    SF
    GE
    TND
    DAD
    SF
    SP
One question: Do I really have to rewatch MR and TSWLM ?

Finishing up Pierce's era I watched The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. TWINE, I enjoyed greatly. DAD, made me miserable, it is my worst viewing of this movie to date. It may have broke me, I don't know. It has a great first half and devastatingly awful second half. Man I feel so sorry Pierce had to be in this movie. He deserved so much better. At least he has 3 great Bond movies and 1 great Bond game under his belt. Die Another Day... It's dropped dead last of my ranking. It had so much potential to be great but it was a talent grenade. I wish I watched TWINE after it, that would have been better. I'm looking forward to Craig's era, that will wash away the cold feeling DAD has left me.

    2016 Ranking.
    GoldenEye
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    The Spy Who Loved Me
    For Your Eyes Only
    Dr. No
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    Licence To Kill
    Moonraker
    The World Is Not Enough.
    Live And Let Die
    Octopussy
    From Russia With Love
    Thunderball
    Goldfinger
The Man With The Golden Gun
    The Living Daylights

I too am sorry that Pierce had to be in DAD (but I'm ensure the massive paycheck softened the blow). But deserved much better. At least he did 1.5 good Bond movies (GE and first half of TND) and 1.5 (second half of TND & TWINE) ok Bond Movies.

I must be one of few here, who have loved ALL the Bond actors. :)) I think they
All did a great job. ........ and I'm going on thinking that way, and I'll give my full
Support to the next fella, whoever that is ( Tom Hiddleston) ;)

I've also grown to appreciate DAD over the years for what it is, which is essentially an anniversary tribute send up of the franchise. A complete 180 degree turn from what they attempted with the 50th anniversary.

I also agree that GE & the first part of TND were the best Bond films Brosnan was in.

That is the way that DAD makes me feel. "Especially when you're bad", oh Pierce. What did they do to you!?

Here's what changes I would make to Die Another Day to make it better.

    1. Remove Icarus completely.

    2. Make Graves a different character. That whole stupid Gene Therapy crap is just bogus. Why couldn't they just put prosthetic makeup on Will Yun Lee instead to make him look different?

    3. Have Bond get Traumatized from the torture. The movie says Bond was in North Korea for 14 months but it only feels like he was there a week. No shell shock or PTSD from his torture at all. Amazing what a haircut and shave can do.

    4. Recast Jinx.

That would make the film a top 10 for me. The rest of the movie is great. But it's only until Icarus is introduced and revealed Graves is Moon then the movie crashes and burns for me.

All the Brosnan films are terrible, and Brosnan was the only really awful Bond so far. However, if the films were any good, I might have seen him in a different light.

Likewise, if the lead actor was better the films could perhaps be elevated somewhat.

I've always enjoyed his first three films. I loved DAD when I first saw it but I was 11 then and now 24, it's just bad. Maybe it was a bad day to watch it. I was rather stressed yesterday. Perhaps I just wasn't feeling it. I had a total opposite experience with TWINE, I enjoyed that more than ever. It's fun, a little flawed but other wise a fine Bond movie. Die Another Day just goes too far with it's Suspension of Disbelief factor. It takes a hammer to it.

The worst torture Bond suffered must have been shaving off that 14 month beard with an electric razor.

I'll be 25 in 7 days but that won't make me dislike the other Brosnan movies. ;) I have a blast with GE, TND and TWINE. DAD just feels like a bad Marvel movie. :))
