Are Any Bond Films in Your Top 10 Greatest Films of All Time?

OHMSS makes the cut for me, but it's probably the only one.

OHMSS and Skyfall for me. But I'm not a great one for films - I mean I've not seen all that's out there!

Yeah, TLD makes my favourites of all time list. But like @thelivingroyale said said, not sure about 'greatest'. Can't realistically say TLD is equal to Blade Runner or Superman: The Movie...
  • None are in the greatest of all time, list, but Goldfinger makes my top 10 greatest action movies, and at least one or two would make it into a list of personal favorites.

That's a tough question. I'm not even sure what my top ten list would look like. I think that I would probably include FRWL though.

TSWLM gets into my top ten but no others.

This thread comes at the subject from the other angle:

As for me, yes From Russia With Love.

While the franchise is easily in my top 10 of best franchises ever, I have seen so many excellent movie outside of the Bondfranchise that one single movie will not feature in my top 10 favorites.

I am like SaintMark here (and others, too, I am sure) - I have enjoyed films all of my life and there are too many great ones that would edge out any Bond film. If I tried to make a serious list of "greatest" films ever made it would indeed be different from my "favorites" list ... but still if 10 is the number, then Bond won't quite make that list for me. But the first Bond film up on my list of all time favorites would be TSWLM. It may come in in the 20's or 30's on that list. I don't think I even want to try to make a definitive list, it would be exhausting.

It's hard for me to say.
Technically, I don't think they're in the top 10 best films out there. Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Casablanca, Blade Runner, Gone with The Wind, ... try to top those.
However, James Bond is the ultimate fantasy. The escapism, the music, the whole spy charm, the elegance, ... I fell in love with these things close to 25 years ago and I continue to love them to this day. I think there are at least 10 films I believe to be better made, better crafted than the Bonds, but if you take away 2001, there are no films left that I love more than the Bonds.

Casino Royale is in my objective top ten but it would certainly be the only one. Subjectively, TLD could probably make it in or very close.

I have two - 'From Russia with Love' and 'Licence to Kill'....Goldfinger wouldn't be far behind either, at around 15th..

Yes, objectively speaking it's about the best- either that or FRWL. But my subjective love for TLD knows no bounds.

If any of the Bond films were in my top ten, it'd be Casino Royale.

I can't really make a definitive list as it's mainly subjective. But to me, GoldenEye is one of the best films of all time.

Hard to dispute, my friend. Subjectively speaking, of course. TLD - TND is my fantastic four....
  • If any, I would have to go with OHMSS. While it may not be your favorite (or the objectively best) Bond film, I'd argue that most would agree it's the best piece of cinema to come out of the series-although I'm somewhat biased as it's one of my favorite films of all time

I definitely respect it for what it did for the cinematic Bond, exploring a big change in his life: falling madly in love and committing to marriage, however fleeting it was. It's films like it, LTK, CR, QoS and Skyfall that separate Bond from the regular action heroes of cinema, making him a deep and fascinating character that I love to study.

Well said. I think that one of the reasons Bond has been able to be so prominent is his character's ability to change and morph into different roles as time goes on (though I dislike Skyfall both as a standalone film and a Bond film)

This is what makes the body of Bond films unique IMO- the ability to explore the character from SO many different perspectives without totally trashing him.

Yes, and even less serious films like the Moore era's adventures explored other aspects of the character beyond his psychology, like his bilingual nature and cultured knowledge. That's the stuff I love most about Moore's Bond, as they did a great job of portraying Bond as an intelligent man who thought before he shot and could outsmart the villains with ease even if his guns failed him. With a character like Bond you could easily make it appear like he is a brainless thug with no other use than to kill, but the franchise succeeds in showing just how cunning Bond is in a film genre flooded with mindless action films and equally uninteresting and one-dimensional protagonists.
  • Comon, get real. I'm a huge Bond fan but there are so many amazing movies out there. No Bond movie makes it in to a decent top ten movie list. One glance at my dvd collection and I can see many titles that are far better ...

    Saving Private Ryan
    Gladiator
    Lord Of the Rings
    Goodfellas
    Shawshank Redemption
    300
    Pulp Fiction
    Aliens
    Braveheart
    Scarface

There may be a Bond movie in the top 100 movies of all time but definitely not in the top 10.

Yes, look at Batman- highs and horrific lows; Superman- the same; Conner McCloud as well... no franchise has ever been as well handled overall with this many instalments.

Okay, Aliens might be better than the BEST Bond film...
    ;)

On a completely objective basis, of course not, but as we are big fans we are all going to be biased because of our love of Bond. Still, I would rather watch a Bond film than any of the films you listed above, and that is rather telling for me on a personal level.

Therein lies a paradox for me as well. Although I know those movies I listed are all around better movies, I watch Bond movies far more. :-o

I rank films based on my enjoyment of them not based on technical production values.

I place on my favorite films both FRWL and CR. I don't have a list of greatest films...
