Kind of like how LALD is a generic 70's action flick?

Yes. Or how TND is a generic 90's action flick. The only difference is that no one calls LALD or TND a masterpiece.

I used to like LTK when I was a lot younger but now I just see it as being not any better nor much different than an under cover cop drug busting movie.

exactly. And while I find LTK superior to TND, I have to say it is overrated here, while TND is pretty much fairly rated in general.

And back on topic, I thought TND was far better than I consider it now. I think much of our early appreciation of a Bond movie is contextual.

Both Kill and LALD have elements that feel a bit out of place in the Bond world, and both have somewhat dated considerably (70s/80s cliches).

Both are also ranked around mid table for me, however, as I've got older I've found myself preferring the "serious thriller" approach. Hence LTK still edges it. Although I have noticed that there are times in Kill when you literally have to remind yourself that this is meant to be a Bond film as well as an 80s revenge movie.

Especially when it's the first one you saw in cinemas. The sentimental value can cloud one's judgement. I thought TND was the best one I'd seen at that point. Now it sits well into the bottom half of my list.

At the age of 20, I used to think DN and FRWL were a bit underwhelming and boring. The folly of youth...Now they are both strong candidates to the title Best Bond Ever.

I don't know if it's a masterpiece, but it is a classic, IMO.

It is very highly rated on this forum. I like it more than I used to when it came out, partially because I don't live in the 80s anymore. But I still find it overrated here.

Thinking about it, my opinion of LALD may have been the most constant one: I liked it when I first saw it, I like it still now, without being among my favourite.

You're right, some call it their favourite. That's silly. TLD is .004% better, and deserves the top spot.

Watched FRWL today and I think I may like it a little bit more than TSWLM, just getting the 8th spot in my ranking (unofficial). I find that I enjoy FRWL more with every viewing. There's no doubt that FRWL is a cracker of a film.

Octopussy is the big one for me. I had it at the bottom at one point, but now I consider it one of the best and, indeed, most faultless Bond films of all.

Goldfinger, on the other hand, was once in my top five and now sits at #15.

I've always found it hard to choose between them but I prefer LTK because of Sanchez. Brilliant villain.

I am not saying that's silly, only that I find it overrated, even though I changed my mind about its intrinsic value.

If LTK had a John Barry score, it would be my #1 easily. They are that close for me.

Here are the ones I used to dislike but now enjoy:

    Diamonds Are Forever
The Man with the Golden Gun
    Octopussy
    Quantum of Solace

Here are the ones I used to enjoy but now dislike (for the most part):

    Dr. No
    Goldfinger
    You Only Live Twice
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (yes, there was a time where it was bearable for me)

Most all others have remained the same for me- for instance, those such as GoldenEye, License to Kill, From Russia with Love, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, A View to a Kill, and Tomorrow Never Dies have always remained favorites for me

Here's a different way of reviewing the films based on the topic at hand:

OHMSS - opinion has changed the most from - to +
    AVTAK
    SF
    QOS
    OP
    LTK
    TLD
    TB
    FYEO
    TMWTGG

    DN
    GE
    NSNA
CR - unchanged opinion (still as great as it was when released)
    FRWL
    LALD
    TSWLM
    MR
    DAF
    YOLT
    CR67
    TWINE
    GF

    DAD
TND - opinion has changed the most from + to -

In this list, the group of films from DN down to GF have changed the least in regards to my opinion of them, with CR being the neutral point.

Most of Brosnans have slipped down my rankings.

I watched FYEO the other day which I used to love. It's pretty poor. I think we've been spoiled with the quality of Craig's tenure.
  • The Spy Who Loved Me slipped quite dramatically down my list upon my viewing last year to #12, and the more I think about it, the more Thunderball slips down (from mid-table this time last year to #18 now). On the other hand, both of Dalton's films went straight up when I rewatched them at the end of 2012 - I had thought TLD was very meh, and I hated LTK, and now they are #1 and #3 respectively. OHMSS and FRWL have always been two of my favourites, and Casino Royale has only slipped down because of TLD.

And that's the 2006 version of Casino Royale, not the 1967 one (or god forbid, the 1954 one)

This is not exactly on topic, but it is close enough to put it here: I always hated DAD, from the moment I left the cinema. Now, I did not change my opinion of it, but it did make me look back on the Brosnan era in another light.
