blu-ray digital copy downloads, do they expire?

Does anyone know if the digital copy transfers included on many blu-ray releases actually expire. ie if you don't use the code provided and do the transfer to your pc or mac by a certain date, does it become no longer do-able?

Secondly, if so how is this possible. Does the code provided allow you to access the content on the company's servers and pull it off the web or does the code simply allow you to unlock it from the disc provided and transfer it to your pc or mac?

Reason I am asking is that I have a collection of blu-rays with this feature but no portable player, so I haven't bothered with the transfers, but now I am worried if I don't do the transfers in a timely fashion, I will lose my digital copy.

Most of the discs come with an exclaimer, warning that if you don't do the transfer by a certain date, that you could be out of luck. They don't say for sure but they allow that it could happen.

Why would this be? Why can't we just save the digital copy until we feel like using it?

    Found this - http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-movies-north-america/115419-risky-business-blu-ray-digital-copy-expired.html

I would suggest, if one of your digital copy has expired, changing your computer date back in time, and disconnect from the internet - it might work...

Thanks DC. That link is real helpful. It appears the expiry dates are for real so you got to get these transfers done in a timely fashion.
I wonder how much storage a typical portable device carries. Do you really want to have these big movie files taking up all that space. It would seem the place to put them would be on on an external drive but I bet you wouldn't be able to transfer them off the portable device. Keep or delete might be the only option.
I guess the reasoning is that you have your blu-ray and/or dvd permanent copy, so the digital copy is just a convenience for your portable device until such time as you decide to delete from your device. If that's the case, it is what it is I guess.

Taking of Blu-rays, when are some more titles being released? Hopefully this year...

Depends on the studio really. I know that blurays that come with a digital copy from 20th Century Fox don't have expiration dates. My thought on the issue is that the studio doesn't want to support a digital copy after a couple years but they may still transfer from the disc but its not 100% guarantee that it will work.

i was having this same problem... a some of my digital copies have expired, and it p***es me off lol... as often times i like to travel, and nothing kills hours more than putting on movie....

i've found a lot of my problems with the digital transfers lies with blu rays, or dvds - released by Warner Bros.... so far, i've only gotten 1 of theirs to work, and that was The Dark Knight.... mind you - i bought the regular DVD when it was first released, and i only uploaded it to my computer just recently... well past it's supposed expiration date lol - but it worked... but for my blu rays, released by WB - forget it...

    the others transfered just fine..
