Learning a new language.

Hey everyone. I want to learn a few new languages, (I only know English), and I want to ask a couple of questions to anyone who has. What's the first thing you learn in doing so, and what is the right way of learning? Is it just going through every word you know in English and learning the translation?

I dont know how old you are, but regardless of that you can contact a school and sign on for a class or two. Or search the internet and see if you can order some books and audiotapes (or whatever there is these days). Listening to the language you desire to learn as much as possible is also of great help-avoid dubbed films and shows.
And it is not only the words you need to learn, grammar varies very much as well. Hope this is of some help.
