Sweded Royale

Hello all,

I am a Film Studies student, and for a college assignment, we have been asked to produce and market our own film swedes. What is a film swede, you might ask - well, simply put, a "swede" is a low-budget recreation of a popular film, usually being an amateur effort.

Our group decided to produce a sweded version of Casino Royale. We are pretty much nearing the end of the production aspect, in terms of shooting and editing, and so have been asked to create an online marketing campaign in order to raise awareness for our product, as the assignment will culminate with all the groups in class uploading their swedes online and seeing which video gets the most hits.

I am asking if people would be interesting in supporting this. We have an official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SwededRoyale007) and an official Twitter page (https://twitter.com/SwededRoyale). However, we have plans to utilise other online platforms, although this isn't a sure thing at the moment. Is it possible for the good folk here to "like" our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter/retweet our posts, etc.?

Sorry if this sounds far too promotional, but I thought who better to like a James Bond tribute than the actual fans themselves?

Also, feel free to watch the final product once it is uploaded online.

I love those. I can't wait to see it. :D
  • Well, we did our best with the limited resources that we had. I was portraying James Bond and, I have to say, I think that I am giving Daniel Craig a run for his money =)) =)) =))

Post it, I'll watch it, then I'll 'Like' it (it's almost guaranteed) :)
  • We plan to do so :) In the meantime, it wouldn't be too much to ask for you guys to like our social media content, would it? Following, retweeting etc. goes a long way to building an audience.

Hey, I felt like that too, @DiscoVolante, and I'm not even Swedish. ;)
I thought ... "why is that kind of film called a 'swede'?" Seeing as how often America remakes great Swedish films, not the other way around, etc. Hmmm.

Anyway, this sounds interesting and I'll check it out.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
I've never heard of this expression before, but the project seems very intresting!

It basically comes from a 2008 comedy film starring Jack Black and Mos Def, called 'Be Kind Rewind'. Mos Def's character works at a video rental store that is in danger of shutting down, and so its owner, played by Danny Glover, is contemplating whether he should sell the place or turn it into a DVD rental store.

These two bumbling store clerks inadvertently erase the footage from all of the tapes in their video rental store. In order to keep the business running, they re-shoot every film in the store with their own camera, with a budget of zero dollars (this is lifted from IMDB).

There is a huge demand for these new tapes from customers, both old and new.

The films in Be Kind Rewind that were erased and recreated are referred to as having been sweded. These remakes are unedited with only a single take per scene. The tapes are described as having come from Sweden as an excuse for higher rental fees and longer wait times.
