This is more like a hobby. But I'm very gifted!
-"This never happened to the other fella" (OHMSS)
-Back projection in bobsleigh fight (OHMSS)
-Tarzan yell (OP)
-Caroline Bliss/John Terry (TLD)
-Slow motion shot of Felix and DEA agent (LTK)
-Plane freefall (its a bit naff but I don't hate it as much as some) (GE)
But it is part of the charm!
Hmm...it is a bit naff though. At least the climax of TB features a fairly well choreographed fight.
It has more to do with the time and the budget than anything else.
That is the funniest ending in the whole series. There is one scene in that otherwise excellent film that stands out as an eyesore. though. The "ice hockey match". That was just stupid , not funny and not exciting.
I didn't find it funny at all. I found it groan inducing. But I didn't hate it because of Thatcher. I'm not a fan of Max the Parrot.
And I never considered the Hockey match as something meant to be "funny."
I've always felt that bit was for sake of making the score fit in.
As for the freefall, one of the funniest things I've ever read is this:
"GoldenEye was my first Bond film, and when he drove the motorcycle off a cliff and managed not only to catch up to, but also climb into and fly a falling plane, I knew this wasn't the film series for me."
Ah, Max is wonderful. It was great to see his comeback in the Dalton era.
I always thought the hockey match was meant to be half funny at least, with the score points lighting up on the board.
FRWL : fine as it is.
GF : Bond with a duck on his head and a rope gun where the rope obviously doesnt come out of it.
TB : The background and speed of the boat in the final fight.
YOLT : The dumping of the car into the sea by the helicopter magnet, where is the camera to film that ? and the Kobi Docks escape where you can plainly see its not a little Japanese girl climbing down that rope !
OHMSS : 'This never happened to the other fella'.
DAF : The fact Bond doesnt seem to give a shit about his dead wife and has a permanent cheeky smile on his face - the cheque is in the post.
LALD : blowing up Kananga at the end with the shark pellet, ruined what could have been a good fight.
TMWTGG: The whistle during one of the best stunts in the series and Goodnight being ultra thick !
TSWLM : fine as it is.
MR : Jaws flapping his wings in the PTS,the Bondola, the double take pigeon, the Magnificent Seven music,Jaws going over the waterfall,Jaw's girlfriend and also the 'well, here's to us' codswallop.
FYEO : The ice hockey fight, the Thatchers at the end,the cheap and tacky Blofeld in the PTS,plainly wearing a cap !
OP : The Tarzan yell,'sit' at the tiger.'hiss off' at the snake.
AVTAK : the beach boys PTS,the factory fight,Bond and Stacey in the shower at the end.
TLD : 'Better make that two' at the end of a good PTS ! ,skiing on the cello over a border (come on !) ,the kissy kissy on the Ferris wheel.
LTK : bad back-drop on Sanchez's car during the tanker chase, that damn winking fish !
GE: the freefall into the plane during the PTS,the marines all appearing with 2 helicopters at the end.
TND : The gung-ho gunfight on the stealth boat and Bond under the water holding onto the chain as the stealth boat blows up above - what is the chain connected to !?
TWINE : Bond being nervous when he had Renard at the missile site ...why ?
DAD : Brosnan's accent being all over the place at the beginning of the film,Jinx just generally - she doesnt do anything the whole film !,'yo Mama',the bloody CGI wave - totally embarrasing to watch, the fight on the plane and the helicopter scene at the end.
CR : The crumbling building fight at the end, something less wham bam would have been better.
QoS : Lack of any Bond track, too short, the death of Mathis, the daft freefall with the parachute opening in the last second and not a mark on anyone.
SF : Bond falling off the bridge, shot, into the river,i think that would have killed anyone !
Thats my whingeing, some is personal nit-picking,others are blatantly bad.
Nice to see there is someone else on here who doesn't like that line. I personally can't stand it.
Laz's delivery is pretty poor too IMO. The only other things that undermine OHMSS for me are Laz's flat line deliveries and the obvious back projection in some scenes...oh and the dubbing.
I did not care for that either. He might as well have said "This never happened to Sean Connery".
I know its meant to be a joke but it just doesn't work for me. It makes me cringe rather than smile.
As for the TLD, what was wrong with the "Better make that two" line? I'll give you the cello scene but I quite enjoyed the romance on the Ferris wheel.
The freefall into the plane in GE was one of the best parts of the film! And yes, there is no way in Skyfall that Bond could have survived being shot, fall off a train into the water and down a waterfall. He would have lost too much blood and drowned. But if Bond films were realistic, he would have been dead 15 minutes into Dr. No.
It was faked though. It's right up there with the freefall in QoS or the kite surfing in DAD.
The surfing in DAD does look fake--obvious CGI, but it never bothered me.
And the invisible car on DAD.
Thunderball – remove the decade worth of tedious footage, of frogmen nailing a sodding net in place.
Diamonds Are Forever – Moonbuggy chase; Plenty O Toole - I can't believe Bond would be interested in someone so dumb; Norman Burton as Leiter; “comedy” policemen; Blofeld in drag, and Ape woman!
Live and Let Die – Most of Sheriff Bloody Pepper’s scenes; Mrs Bell scenes
The Man With The Golden Gun – again Sheriff Pepper’s scenes – again; two teenage girls defeating an entire dojo; locking Goodnight in a closet while Bond gets groiny is unforgivable; slide whistle sound effects during the Corkscrew jump.
Moonraker – remove Jaws from the PTS; the entire boat chase and subsequent “Bondola “ travesty; Jaws falling in love with Dolly.
For Your Eyes Only – Thatcher; change the actor playing "not" Blofeld.
Octopussy- Tarzan yell; the crowds doing a Wimbledon during the Tuk-Tuk chase
A View To A Kill – again the “comedy” Sheriff during the fire engine chase; taxi drivers antics; Beach Boys in the PTS
The Living Daylights –the monkeys/crowds scenes – a throwback to the Moore era
GoldenEye – most of Boris’s dialogue, especially when we first meet the Severnaya staff “Slugheads!”(in fact we could have done without that scene, plus it would improve the pacing of the film); some of the action scenes need trimming down i.e. tank chase
The World Is Not Enough – Sir Rog said about cinema acting; "your eyebrow moves about 20 feet in the cinema when you're up on screen". I don't think anyone told Pierce.
Die Another Day - Madonna cameo; recast Zao; remove the whole CGI debacle; trimming down the climax; get rid off Graves’ RoboSuit.
Casino Royale - Sinking house - less is sometimes better - do it like the book
Quantum of Solace – parachute jump
Skyfall - tricky one this. I suppose one can rewrite Silva's escape, to make it more plausible, and remove the subway crash.
Yes! @barryt007 - what was the chain attached too in TND!
Agreed. It's not even a duck, it's a seagull!
Your comment on DAF are right on target. Instead of offering the moon to Connery to come back they shouldhave kiss Lazenby's ass to close the Blofeld dossier. I like Connery, I really do, but 2 pedestrians outings out of 6 isn't all that good.
Another thing that doesn't make sense is that Blofeld and Bond don't recognize each other in OHMSS, despite the fact that they had just met in YOLT (both characters were played by different actors, of course).
