I fhink I may not watch SP ever again. With some exceptional scenes excluded (PTS, Mr. White, all Q scenes, L‘Americain) I find it more and more terrible and to some degree it ruins CR-SF.

Looking at it now, it would have turned out so great if there was a connected film to QoS, hinting Quantum was taken over or evolved into a new organization (SPECTRE) ... and then SF exactly like it is. It would have been the perfect closing to Craig‘s tenure in absolute style: „With pleasure, M. With pleasure.“. Well - we‘ll see what B25 will bring us.

    My thoughts exactly.
  • I can't hate SP because of how the dessert was shown very similarly to the Bolivian dessert scenes of QoS...among a few other aspects.

Bond was telling Madeline how to use a weapon just as he and Camille were talking about digging two graves.

Speaking of Camille....did you all feel like he was going to pull the trigger during the firestorm scene in the hotel? The grief of Vesper really haunted throughout the tension of that scene as it was the opposite of the shower scene from CR...the music added to the air of melancholy.

@dramaticscenesofQOS is the implication of that scene that rather than be burned alive, he’s going to kill Camille and then himself?

Kill Camille, yes. Himself? I wouldn’t think so. The reason he wanted to do that to Camille was because she was too much in shock and couldn’t have moved. She was mentally destroyed. Probably he would have killed her, and then found a way to get out, again. Fortunately, good luck presented itself to him. Bond was never one to give up, let alone be suicidal.

There are lots of QoS appreciators. They are mainly genuine Bond fans who've convinced themselves that it is much more than the sum of its parts. It's only criticised by those who view it for what it is, a missed opportunity.

    That’s a fair assessment.

Quantum of Solace isn't as good as Casino Royale: the smart elegance of Craig's Bond debut has been toned down in favour of conventional action. But the man himself powers this movie; he carries the film: it's an indefinably difficult task for an actor. Craig measures up. It also features maybe the best pre title sequence in the entire series. It’s just a shame the gunbarrel doesn’t appear at the start.

I hate to break up the party but this thread is the forum equivalent of lets just give Quantum of Solace a hand shandy

I don't have the reservation that @RC7 has, I've already said it's top 10 but the way it's being talked about here, well I wonder what next hidden layers it's biggest champion is about to reveal to us.

Robert Towne did not write the script and this is not Chinatown, which is ironic considering the plot point it borrows.

I wonder where the Skyfall appreciation threads Getafix equivalent is?

I will say I do think there was an opportunity with SPECTRE to address QOS, they could have given the film it's due but still it was regarded as that embarrassing uncle we don't like to talk about. Even going as far as not showing Dominic Greene in the shards of glass sequence in the main titles that I can recall.

Both CR & QOS could have been used much more constructively within the screenplay if you wanted to tie the films together.

Myself and @peter will be addressing this ideas in a new project we've now agreed is a collaboration, a radical rewrite of SPECTRE.

Just some balance instead of this continued adoration of a film that was troubled from day 1.

To the topic, I don't think there are necessarily many more viewers that like Quantum of Solace all these years later. As far as more that like it than originally thought, that can be a result of the noisy reception it got from a disappointed sliver of the audience. Similar to Spectre's current state. Or years earlier On Her Majesty's Secret Service. When there's a drumbeat suggesting folks aren't supposed to like a Bond film, for a time positive comments on forums like this can be limited. But they'll eventually come forward.

  • No, it really does seem like QoS is getting more appreciated increasingly, despite gradual. OHMSS, unlike QOS wasn't full of symbolisms and didn't require viewers to watch it a few times to learn something new each time as much as QOS, which keeps QOS along with its modern set designs feel like it's the most-recent Bond movie.

Mendes' style of tinting SP or using digital photography back in SF get a little stale after viewing those films a couple of times, as opposed to QOS not messing around too much colors on the camera. The only ways color was artistically used was in Yusef's apartment when Dennis Gassner built the set to bring out Bond's piercing anger in his eyes.

The Apartment scene is something you can a imagine in a Fleming novel. It’s brillaint.

Translation: I hate Quantum of Solace but I can't point out objective flaws to say it's a sh**** movie so I'm waiting for someone else to do it for me, because I can't let people enjoy what I don't like.

Gee, relax man! It's just a movie. Who cares if other people like it? Objectively speaking SPECTRE's script is much more messy than QoS', yet people adore it. I'm not forcing people to dislike SPECTRE just because I don't like it.

Translation what??? I already said it was top 10, I just want to see something more objective, the SF thread had far more balanced opinions.

This is just a love in for QOS.

Seems like a good use of your time, wishing for something you know will never happen.
  • Yeah, that time is long past. The game Bloodstone, was more or less a continuation of the Quantum story arc.

Blood Stone was what the Craig era should've looked like and been like after CR.

Bloodstone's legacy was disrespected by Legends...without the actual Bond actor voicing the character, it doesn't feel like the game has his blessing either.

QoS was followed up better by Bloodstone than by SF.
  • Blood Stone was what the Craig era should've looked like and been like after CR.

True. Back when it came out, the cut scenes and also the action felt like a Craig movie. The shadows from the blinds off the windows felt very Bohemian like CR.

GoldenEye 007 and 007 Legends aren't canonical to me. They both butchered the source material, then bring about vehemently bad products. They just had Craig's Bond in them both for the sake of it. To me, they don't exist in the canonical universe. Just like GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.
  • Wasn't Goldeneye 007 that game which caused the developer of Bloodstone to shut down and give the audiences of QOS less material in between the years from QoS and SF?

While it's great to have Daniel Craig replace a lot of aspects of Pierce Brosnan, including Goldeneye, the timing of that game's release could have been done in 2011 to help build up the hype of SF.

I'm sure there's people who like QOS that still play the game of QOS online remotely with one another.

If I still had an Xbox 360 and QoS on there, I'd still be playing it. Definitely a cheap Call of Duty clone, but I had such a blast with it.

The reimagining of GE as well as replacing Brosnan in a story obviously tailored for him was what deteriorated the game itself. It just didn't fit Craig's mould, thus butchering the story and its spirit. For the same reason I couldn't see Brosnan in any of Craig's films, nor Moore. But, that's only one of the issues the game has.

It was, in a way, the GE remake that left Blood Stone to wither and die due to being released the same day, it mainly had a lot to do with MGM first and foremost. It went bankrupt in 2009, so any project that was ongoing before they went bankrupt had to be rushed. Blood Stone was that. Hence why its sequel was cancelled, prior to Blood Stone's release, even. At least according to Bruce Feirstein.

QoS, outside PS2's version, isn't too much of a great game. Just a generic rushed CoD clone where you run and gun everybody as the story jumps from level to level without making sense to the player. I could class that game as James Bond: The Greatest Hits - The Daniel Craig Era, 2008 Edition. I'd hardly call it a video game if it were to be taken seriously.
  • It would have been cool for there to be a level on QOS where Bond has to survive the dogfight airplane battle and falling via parachute into the underground water tunnel like in the movie.

I'm not sure how they could've orchestrated a proper plane chase/battle, but I agree. The sinkhole section of the game was one of the hardest missions on the highest difficulty, had me even more furious because it's not even a part of the film.

No, GoldenEye was developed by Eurocom, and they eventually shut down shortly after 007 Legends' release.

He meant Bizzare Creations. Due to the poor sales of Blood Stone, they did shut down. And that was mainly caused by GoldenEye coming out the same day Blood Stone did.
