All kidding aside (though that point still stands), you're definitely right. It's interesting watching Craig's era sort of embrace the Bourne style that was so popular at the time before shifting away to something else entirely as attitudes and the landscape changed. I personally wish it retained that same, cohesive feeling throughout but I'll always be grateful for the couple I did get and love.
Yes, those one liners really should be left to that era.
Of course, the producers were so comfortable on autopilot for some time.
It's only my opinion but I don't ever want to go back a lighter tone personally, Bond should always reflect the times we live in.
I think if you write good plots, it won't get stale, you still need those signatures Bond moments but you have to strike a balance.
I understand that there's a lot of fans on here, that love the escapism that Bond brings, and there's nothing wrong with that all. For me I love that feeling when you're on the edge of your seat in a cinema, Bond should always provide that.
I do agree with what Timothy said "the further out on limb you go, the more exciting it is"
The darker films with realism tend to age better with time. In fact, they are catalysts for bigger profits with their subsequent films. Just look at SF. But unfortunately the series has often compromised the gritty realism and dark tone of their predecessors. For example GE was a totally different Bond movie from LTK as SF was not as much of a sequel to QoS though the M and Bond dynamic was important to see in the previous movie.
I do understand why people enjoy more camp lighter Bond as it's easier viewing and more escapist fantasy. I just prefer seeing Bond on the edge, doing the dirty work, in glamorous otherworldly settings
Timothy Dalton respected his own legacy enough to forgo a third outing because the script to his next film would have brought too much light heartedness to the role. In fact there would have been a scene featured where Bond disguises himself as a rodeo sportsman to try and infiltrate a villain.
The producers have to learn that the pressures of the audiences who complain aren't always right. If they were, then DC would never have become Bond. Also, the producers need to follow the money....each film time they tried reverting back to the RM era of style with one liners and humor, it hurt the series....just look how PB's movies became worse with each one (I'm looking you, DAD).

What I wouldn't give to see this film in theaters again. They're playing NO Bond films at all this year anywhere near me in the States. It's incredibly disappointing.
Thats such a pity. I feel bad, because they showed them all here in Ireland, but I wasnt able to get to most of the ones I wanted, as they were on same evening every week! Though have my ticket for CR this week, and I will definitely get to QoS next week!
I've even been checking my local Alamo because I'd absolutely make the trip for something like QoS in cinemas again but no such luck. I haven't seen a single Bond showing over there whatsoever.
A couple of unforgettable scenes that made a huge impact in demonstrating the quality of QoS was the shots of Bond and Camille walking through the desert while the musical score played until they arrive back at the hotel.....another among many very theatre-worthy scenes.
A year after QoS was released I remember telling Marc Forster at a Q&A how much he immerses audiences into the scenes of his characters and having them feel their emotions. I specifically mentioned the scene where Bond is waiting for Yusef and his next Vesper....the setup felt like we were there waiting with Bond in darkness surrounded by a cold world.
Hopefully we all will get to see a Producer's Cut edit of QoS one day if we keep pushing for it.
I'll forever continue to clamor for one and offer a fat chunk out of my wallet if one is made available.

It would make the whole story so much more believable. Jonathan Price's outburst and revenge on his wife would make sense. Now it seemed more like somebody stole his candy.
I still think the character needed a few more minutes to be truly fleshed out. But at least she'd have been played by a more believable actress and with a more uncommon kind of beauty. Teri Hatcher is gorgeous, but in a girl next door kind of way. She belongs to the suburb, Fairview and Wisteria Lane, not a Bond movie.
Well, she doesn't rock my boat in the slightest, and her acting is so unbelievable she makes the role non-existent. Beauty isn't the thing you need in a scene like that. You need seductiveness. Something Monica definately excells at. I don't find her that beautiful, but increadably attractive. She hardly had any sreentime at all in SP (and the dialogue wasn't very good either) but she made it work perfectly fine.
I think it's a pretty good description of Monica Bellucci. She's seductive.
TND was a parody movie in an of itself.
TWINE had so much potential but even the music was a parody in and of itself.
DAD just looks like a parody in every sense.
QoS redux needs a Kickstart campaign. Any information available of an upcoming Q&A with the producers or Marc Forster or Daniel Craig? Rory Kinnear is fair to ask too....
The producers want a new Bond actor who is relatively young but the issue with that is that they need a little more than just 2-4 years to really find an undiscovered gem of a quality actor who is lesser known and can remain loyal to the role...they'll need to take their time and be willing to use a three-story arc in which the films are made back to back with a slightly older actor like Tom Hardy using Christopher Nolan for a high quality series trilogy that will immerse fans and non fans alike and really build an audience for that new actor to come in. Thus the older Bond actor will provide a sure solid performance in less time while building and keeping the audiences. Daniel Craig can work on the QoS redux....
Hope he can direct a dark and gritty Bond movie one day.
