Stumbled across this earlier...

http://au.askmen.com/top_10/celebrity/to-10-controversial-casting-decisions.html

Some that I don't really care too much about. Ledger was always going to be a fine choice for the Joker imo. And I'm not a Trekkie, so Chris Pine didn't annoy me. The #1 spot didn't surprise me, but I do love the comment the writer of the article makes.

His hair was the wrong colour. He wasn’t handsome enough. His eyes were a bit scary. Wah wah waaah. There was no end to the moans about Craig playing 007. Not much going on at the craignotbond.com website any more.

    It says it all really.

I think Channing Tatum is a controversial casting decision in any film. Terrible actor.

*Ahem* well, as it turns out...

This is my 1,000th post on these forums. A bit anticlimactic, but, there we go. It's been a fantastic run with all of you, I've enjoyed writing all 1,000 of these, my started discussions included. Thank you to everybody on MI6 who I've gotten to know in the past nine months. I'll dedicate this post to @DarthDimi and @Creasy47 who have probably (in a very, very positive way) provoked the majority of the discussions that led me to this post count in such a reasonably short time.

How embarassing, I labelled the wrong post. Oh well. This is 1,001.

Agreed on those wastes of space over there, but did you click on that link, @Samuel001? It brings up the CRAIGISNOTBONDCASINOROYALEBOYCOTT page in Russian Cyrillic writing! I guess that was what the article was referring to when it said that there was "[n]ot much going on" there any more!

Indeed, @Samuel001. I'd put hiring Craig as #1 I think, certainly in modern times.

Back in the rather more distant past (early 1950's), casting Shelly Winters (then a blonde bombshell type with good comedic tones, too) as the sad, overweight, doomed girlfriend in the melodrama classic, A Place in the Sun, was a surprise; unsure if controversial. She nailed it and was nominated for an Oscar.

Controversial ... I will have to think some more on this.

I thought Channing Tatum was alright in Haywire and I thought he was great in 21 Jump Street. Haven't seen him in anything else.

Still not crazy about Ledger's Joker. Pine does a surprisingly good & original Kirk. That bloke Craig turned out to be a fine OO7.

Keaton is a badass Batman and still the best.

Craig's casting is unsurprisingly on the list and is a testament to the old adage of, "wait and see".

I'm surprised Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher isn't on there.

I there's any controversial casting involved with the Bonds, I'd sooner submit Madonna for that list. ;-) She never liked cock-fights. Oh dear.

Actually, that particular bit of casting was (pre-internet) THE most controversial I've ever seen (I'm, like, old): I remember at comic conventions hearing boos and catching cross talk about how Mr. Mom was going to destroy Batman in the movies forever, etc. Made the furore over Craig seem tame by comparison.
The nay-sayers shut up at the cons after its release. :)>-

Keaton was controversial at the time, yeah.

You are right, @BAIN123, Cruise as Reacher is a shame and I thought was controversial enough to get a mention. For fans of the books, it is still quite controversial.

I guess that has to do with the fact that the movie did not do that good at the BO, so the critics were proven right that Tom Cruise was the wrong choice.

That was what the article was about controversial choices that proofed the fans & critics wrong.

Oh good point; where the casting was proved correct.

Another Reacher film is being made with Cruise but in no way was the first one considered a huge success. I think.

As someone whom doesn't like Craig as Bond, speaking just for myself, but to me, his hair colour is irrelevant. I wouldn't like him as Bond if his hair was black or brown.

I don't think that Chris Pine was too controversial. Anyone who tried to fill Shatner's shoes was going to be under a lot of pressure but I remember being excited to see what he could do with the role. I think that Keaton was the most scrutinized of them all.

Yeah, I never heard any backlash over Pine or any of the rebooted cast for that matter. It was overshadowed by Trekkies crying mass hysteria over J.J. Abrams and lens flares.

I was very happy with the casting of Craig, but I was very skeptic towards Keaton and Ledger. Well, I was wrong there. Now please prove me wrong again, Jesse Eisenberg!
